I imagine there are probably thousands of pieces of art in the hands of people who are aware of what they have. They probably keep this quiet for a variety of reasons. Some might be afraid to give it back, some may want compensation, some may even want to be selfish and keep their valuable art. I wonder if more would be willing to return these items if they were compensated in some way. Maybe a replica of the art or something like that for the person that returns the piece. It would be a nice gesture.

He carefully added: "we won the war". In 1973 I was on a study trip to the Novgorod region, where the German Luftwaffe meticulously destroy 801 churches of that region alone. Art from German museums was only pennies in reparations for the mulitbillion damages inflicted by Germany on the USSR.
@fletsepopje3 ай бұрын

@@PeterJessenDK The Luftwaffe never meticulously bombed churches, THAT is a fact. Nor did the soviet rebuilt and carefully restored them. And finally : neither isNetanyahu meticulously bombing churches or any other religious buildings. So basically, nothing that you wrote is true. Are you delusional ?
@ronanrogers41272 ай бұрын
@@fletsepopjeNo, he is not delusional at all. There are many examples of the destruction of orthodox churches and cathedrals by the Germans, and of those churches being reconstructed. The same of palaces. I can’t confirm the number to be 801, or the characterisation of the destruction as being systematic, but it is indisputable. Of course many local churches were destroyed by the Soviets in the early years, but there is an incorrect perception that this was very widespread and that virtually all churches were destroyed. That’s just pure anti-Communist Cold War propaganda. Some monasteries remained open during the harshest periods of Soviet rule. The reality is that the finest of the churches remained in tact and were not destroyed by the Soviets, but several of these were deliberately destroyed by the Germans. You need to brush up on your history by reading credible sources.

The Soviets did return some artworks to museums in East Germany, but often you see replacements for gold artifacts that the Soviets have either kept or melted down. I understood that the Amber Room that you see here was a copy, as the original was destroyed at the end of the War. That said, the Museums on Museum Island in Berlin have been repaired and there's still a lot to see, though unfortunately the Pergamon is currently closed for renovation for quite a long time.

I hope that if the amber room is ever found it is not handed back until all the stolen art in russia is returned. While it is in the hands of whoever finds it and recovers it to the monuments men and the finder gets full credit. The amber room should be re built in a dedicated museum and the proceeds from visitors be used to hunt the stolen art in Russian museums and the wider community. Only when all avenues are exhausted and the art is found or proven lost to the battles should the Russians get their orange stones back. They are admitting that the art is there but they still wont give it back so this is the only way i can see that it could be recovered. All of this relies on someone, and not a russian, finds it first of course.
