Used to ( has several meanings ) 1: Something I used to do can mean I used to run in that direction! 2: I am getting used to running in a different location! 3: I used to wake up at 5:00 O’clock in the morning, I was used to waking up at 5:00 in the morning. 4: Please use Past, Present and Future in the proper context!

Greg, you are an excellent teacher! Your pronunciation is perfect! In general, it's easier for me to understand American English, because I graduated in an American English Course. Unfortunatelly, I don't have anyone to have a conversation because in Brazil just a few people speak English. I teach English in a public high school, and my students have not much interests, They not even like to talk in English (LOL). I would like to have a native speaker friend to get in touch. Through thick and thin, I always appreciate your contents. Thank you so much.

*For portuguese speakers!* 1. I used to play football when I was a kid = *COSTUMAVA* jogar bola quando era miúdo. 2. I got used to waking up early = *ACOSTUMEI-me* a levantar-me cedo. 3. It was difficult to get used to eating at 3pm, but now I am used to it = Foi difícil *ACOSTUMAR-me* a comer às 3 da tarde, mas agora já *ESTOU ACOSTUMADO/A.* *For other latin languages is NOT too different!*

I appreciate that, because these grammatical forms are pretty much the same as in portuguese (my language). So it's very easy to learn. Not that english is easy. I think most of english is very difficult. Since the words we usually use in Portuguese, in English are often different, this makes the meaning an enigma for us, and it takes you some time to process and understand.

Thanks a lot for your useful video, Greg. But I'm still confused when it comes to helping my daughter with her exercises in reported speech. Example 1: He asked me "What were you doing at 9 a.m yesterday?". How should I report the sentence with the exact time given? A. He asked me what I was doing at 9 a.m the day before. (without backshift tense) B. He asked me what I had been doing at 9 a.m the day before. (with backshift tense) Example 2. He said "I met my wife in 1980." should be in reported speech: A. He told me that he met his wife in 1980. B. He told me that he hed met his wife in 1980. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again.
