He could’ve collapsed, therefore he must’ve fell down on the road, losing his senses. He might’ve had some help from people walking along the road or people driving theirs cars, calling 999 to get an ambulance and help from medical staff. At the end, he must’ve been taken to the hospital and hopefully the gentleman might’ve recovered. Thank you!

Some would argue there is no future tense in English, only various ways of referring to future time. Spanish has a future tense eg "hablo" is "I talk":: "hablare" is I will talk. "Will" is an non-tensed modal verb expressing certainty in future time. The verbs are unchanged. In Mandarin none of the verbs have tense.

Hi Greg. Usually I don't accept this game with so-called homework. However, it's more foggy and gloomy than I have known about modal verbs and consequently used. So, here is my h/w; take a look, please. And also other virtual students, please. Every correction and short note is highly appreciated. So, someone sees a moveless man on the road and think: 1. It seems, he might have a stroke, it's so hot now. 2. I think he must have had a heart attack. 3. It looks for me this guy must have been hit by the car; it's quite typical hit and run scene. THANK YOU!

According to grammar books modals in basic form say about present situation or sometimes, rarely about future. Ex. I can sing today or tomorrow but not yesterday. Something is not said about modals in your explanation. Can you answer me what is a status of modals in the future meaning?

Hello Greg ! Been watching your gallery of videos for quite some time now, and just saying I am more than pleased with them would be unfair. I must say that I have been able to understand a bunch of unclear things that I have been living with since college. This video about modals certainly brought me to light, thanks a lot. Nevertheless, I have a special favor to ask regarding modals, it is about those in past for speculation. I just hope I am not asking too much of you.

ORDER OF PROBABILITY
@maciejfratczak4136
@maciejfratczak4136 2 жыл бұрын
interestingly the modal verb should is in polish powinien, and winien means guilty or obliged. guilty in German is schuldig, so it looks that the original meaning of should was "is obliged to" or better "owes to"and this is where "ought to" comes from.

Hi Greg, Could you able to explain me this whole sentence -- "Hardly ever before in history can the decision to embroil a great nation in war have been taken so wantonly and with so little excuse." And also, what is meant by "...and with so little excuse" This sentence I have picked up from Cambridge dictionary. The sentence is made using the word "embroil". I know the meaning of the word "embroil", but I cannot able to apprehend the whole sentence structure. Thank you in anticipation.☺☺☺

@Katy38316
@Katy38316 Жыл бұрын
Im not sure 100% sure, I’m still learning and investigating this but I think for me you use “will have” if you’re talking about the future like predicting something which it hasn’t happened yet… and you use “would have” if you’re talking about the past For example: “should I wake up early tomorrow?” “Yes you should! If you wake up late the train WILL HAVE left” I don’t know why he used “will have” in the past tense I think he’s just explaining how the say “‘ve” but not explaining it clearly --------------------- This is talking about the past for example: “Hey how was the party last night?” “The party was okay but it WOULD’VE been great if there was a DJ so we could dance and would be enjoyable”

3:08 why "they will be" and not "they are" tourist? For me, it seems not logical to use a future tense instead of a present tense ('they are') or maybe a modal verbe (i.g. 'they should be')
