If you want to test you temp gauge, just take of the cable form the sensor and make contact with the mass of the car.. (ground). If the gauge is working, it will show full temp. (The sensor works at 140 ohms in cold temp and at 30 ohms, at full temp.). But don´t keep connected to the mass too long, but just enought to see the needle moving from cold to full temp! Or use a decade resistance. box.

Question. My gauge rises to operating temperature normally however based on electrical load, the needle will jump (rise and fall) more load results in a rise and when the load is taken away the needle goes back down. Im not sure if my ECT Gauge sending unit is going bad or if its my ECT Switch not toggling the fans on when the temp rises. My fans work but weirdly, last night my cars temp stayed perfectly normal and i heard my fans toggle on much more frequently than they usually do (when I do experience the symptoms I just told wrote about. Hello, does the ECT sensor make you consume more gasoline? What anomalies do you feel in the car?
@tubejim101 Жыл бұрын
Depends on which of the 3 ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensors are bad. If the fan one was is bad, your car will most likely over or under heat, depending on what your fan is doing. If your gauge one is bad, you will most likely be stressed over bad display information. If your ECU sensor is bad, it will be using the wrong mapping for your engine. Will most likely run to rich, or lean depending on what miss information the ECU is getting from the sensor.

Two things come to mind. First, i would get on craigslist.org . Find someone who is parting out their Civic, and buy the whole suspension/brake setup for that side. Take a look at a known good setup, and compare it to yours. Also, someone may have tried to use parts from a 92 to 95, on your 96 to 00.

@@ppinchera8225 I did some research. Your temp sensor should just be one wire. Should be this one: amzn.to/3jd3AVf If you disconnect the wire to the sensor, and ground the wire (just jumper it to the engine block) The gauge in the cab should start going up. You have to disconnect it, before it gets to the top, or you might damage the gauge. So best to do it with two people, or run enough wire, that you can watch the dash, and be able to break the ground when it starts moving. If you see it rising, you wire and gauge are good.

So I replaced the ECT switch and the fan still doesn't turn on so my car starts to overheat. Any idea what might be causing the fan not to turn on? Is the next step to replace my thermostat? I noticed my overflow tank was very low so I added coolant to it and after warming the car to operating temp and overheating, it started to boil or bubble. Please help!

Sounds like you have air in your coolant. You should test your old sensor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpTbkIeihLCefLc

if you remove the distributor, do you have to adjust the timing when putting back on?
@tubejim1014 жыл бұрын
You should. Next time mark the distributor, so you can put it back in the same spot. Most of the time, if you just center the distributor, it will get you by, till you can time it.

My civic dashboard gauge works but never goes over the middle, I’ve been pushing my car uphill and stuff and still didn’t moved more than the middle it never overheats, I got the stock radiator how is it possible?
@tubejim1013 жыл бұрын
Couple of thing. Don't run green radiator fluid. Use a universal long life (5 years) antifreeze. No one ever remembers to change green, bad antifreeze can coat your cylinder walls so they don't cool as well. Get premix. An air pocket will throw off cooling. Someone may have put the wrong thermostat in. It could be bad. If it is stuck open, you will have trouble heating up.
@Pier16683 жыл бұрын

I had a no crank no start problem. Changed starter still didnt turn on. Changed main relay switch still didnt turn on. Checked the battery 4 different times and autozone said my battery was perfectly fine and 100% charged. I put a new battery in and my car starts right up. As crazy as this may sound u just might need a new battery even if your battery is reading fine and passing all the test of a good battery. It could still be your battery that needs to be changed unfortunately. I brought the battery that's in my car from autozone last year which made this experience even weirder but try using another battery that isnt inside the car already to see if that fixes your problem the way it did for me

Are these 3 sensors different in shape/size? Can someone fit them in the wrong place? My problem is that since I changed the oem ECT, the temperature gauge fluctuates when driving in different road conditions. This didn't happen in the past. Once the engine got warm the temp.gauge would stay in the same position. I used a delphi sensor with this part number ts10180-11b1. Should I worry?
@tubejim1013 жыл бұрын
I don't see how you could put them in the wrong place. Have your battery and alternator tested. Should be free at your local parts store. They can test it on the car. Also you can have the read for scan codes.

i see you have replaced all three. i've been having similar issues (which led me to your videos in the first place) I would like some input if you have the time 1999 Civic ex sedan factory d16y8 Fan didnt work > Checked ohm'age (Plenty of resistance) Started thinking the relay might be bad --> Simply swapped it with the AC condensor far and turned on my ac (AC fan still spun = good relay) Decided i would test everything from the switch plug back to the fan > jumped it with paperclip, fan came on right away. So today i was SO sure it was the fan switch --> bam replaced that.. fan still never came on. Today while attempting to get it to over heat it started to creep on up there according to my instrumentation; promptly pulled over and paper clipped the fan and thought "Take that you little bitch" and it STILL OVERHEATED. -sigh- So this is where i am at. I am curious if its possible my sender is bad, and giving me false readings inside the car.. I'm also thinking my thermostat might be stuck.. But, if it is just the sending unit.. my fan should still come on when it gets hot enough to make contact with the switch.. Really perplexed with all of this, im not a complete novice and have had my hand at a few motor swaps etc.. but that was with stuff that was already working properly. Tomorrow i will try removing the thermostat (possibly testing it on the stove top) and i might just buy the two sensors under the distributor while im at it. Was curious what your thoughts were on this.
@tubejim1017 жыл бұрын
So if you jumper it, and the fan comes on, it means the coolant fan switch it not working. Either it is bad, or your thermostat is stuck and not getting the coolant hot enough. This video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpTbkIeihLCefLc

@tubejim1018 жыл бұрын
+Felipe The back one (on thermostat housing) runs your fans. The middle one, runs your gauge. The front one, goes to your ECU. I would unplug the middle one, and see what effect it has on your gauges. If it has no effect, I would suspect your gauge.
