Nope, in this case it's more like natural thunder striking, not an actual senjutsu. Senjutsu requires mixing and molding both corporal chakra and natural energies into one living being's body. The output to that mix & mold is what we call Senjutsu. Sasuke's Kirin is not Senjutsu, as it doesn't require him to mix and mold both his own chakra and natural energy into his body. The Chidori Sasuke used in his Curse Mark mode 2 though, that is a Senjutsu attack.

In Japan, the kirin is considered to be the most powerful and sacred beast of all, surpassing the hōō and tatsu. The shape of the kirin that Sasuke conjures is the Japanese style one due to it having one horn. The Chinese variant has two. This is why kirin (as is pronounced in Japan) is considered the Japanese unicorn.

My biggest question has always been how is sasuke able to manipulate the lightning to hit a specific target, let alone into a complex shape? I have 2 guesses- 1. Sasuke creates a tether, using his chidori, to the thunderstorm/lightning which is what allows him to aim the lightning. The lightning taking on a complex shape could just be for theatrical effect from kishimoto and it might not even actually look like a kirin, just a bolt of lightning. Or 2. Due to saturating the atmosphere in his chakra, through use of his fire jutsu, sasuke is able to direct and shape the attack

I don't know if it's in the manga, but back in OG Naruto in the anime Kakashi summoned a thundercloud seemingly with a lightning jutsu to try and scare the neophyte genins that would come under his charge. Going off that, it always seemed perfectly reasonable that a lightning-natured shinobi would be able to summon a thundercloud if for no other reason then to possibly make it start raining. Obviously Sasuke could go beyond this and take control of the lightning in the air and strike down with Kirin.

I dunno if I'd put 2:42 down as inconsistencies with Kishimoto. I guess it technically would be but I think as a writer he had this idea of Sasuke having a new and immensely powerful jutsu but didn't quite know WHAT the jutsu would be. The concept was there but it wasn't fleshed out. I bet at that point in Shippuden all Kishimoto knew was, "Sasuke has a badass new jutsu, he doesn't use handseals for it and raises his hand to the skies." Then as a nod back to this moment, he finally revealed Kirin in the Sasuke vs Itachi fight. I bet beyond the reasoning that Kirin wasn't workshopped until then, the biggest factor in Sasuke getting to use Kirin, is that he was fighting Itachi and Kishi really wasn't sure how else to help Sasuke win against him.

J Robins It's late but i think in Naruto first part there weren't actually lessons I mean even the only lesson that you can write your own destiny was wrong since Naruto used kurama's chakra to defeat Neji which was sealed in him because he was son of fourth hokage by destiny The series in my opinion was showing reality and human psychology Like how small events effect people which leads to bigger things I felt that way and understood many characters especially why Naruto and Sasuke became so different What was the turning point that decided their actions and fate And I reached to the confusion that the turning point was wheniruka and Sasuke lost everything

there is always a voltage difference between the ground and the sky even on clear days. So maybe doing it without building a cloud means more chakra burned to force a lightning bolt?
