It is rare for a person to accurately describe the beliefs and practices of a religious group other than his own. I have had enough family member, friends and neighbors who are members of some of these groups and I have attended the meetings and asked questions of the members of enough other groups that I can say with some confidence that you have generally avoided the temptation to misrepresent groups to which you do not belong. Thank you for that.

@@hosha9 I was born in the Midwest (U.S.A.). I have trouble understanding some people’s English, even the English of many of the people in Maine, where my wife and I live now. I also don’t like dogmatism. I’m 77 and the older I get the less I like it. So it didn’t take me long to give up watching the video you suggested. I do, however, want to thank you for making the suggestion. I have the book The Meaning of The Holy Qur’an - an English paraphrase by ‘Abdullah Yusuf ‘Ali and I have read it. My opinion is that if someone reads the Hebrew Bible first, then the Gospels, then the Epistles and then the Apocalypse (Revelation), he is likely to get a very different understanding of the Bible than if he first reads the Gospels and the Epistles. I think something similar may be true with regard to reading the Qur’an (or, in my case, reading an English paraphrase thereof). It seems to me that some Muslims teach their children the first parts of the Qur’an while not putting much emphasis on the later parts. Conversely, some Muslims emphasize some of the later surahs so much as to give their children a very different understanding of Islam. I’m not promising to read it but, if you have a way of sending a transcript of the video, I may find the time to read at least part of it.

@@EmilyS-gk3st Protestant Traditionalist vs. Contrarianian vs. Reformist Numerous “definitions” of the Protestant Reformation describe it as something that occurred in the sixteenth century. Multitudes of people are content to adopt only those doctrines taught by one or more of the sixteenth century reformers. Let’s call them protestant traditionalists. One Lutheran told me any doctrine not taught by Martin Luther isn’t important. Do you agree that no reforms are important except those adopted in the sixteenth century? Have you read or heard that the Pilgrims who came to North America aboard the Mayflower and settled in what is today Plymouth, Massachusetts adopted several additional reforms? Some people learn about the beliefs and practices of the seventeenth century Plymouth colonists and conclude that the ideal religious perspective is to discard every doctrine of the Roman Church. For our purposes here, let’s call such people “contrarian”. Do you agree with the contrarians? Because I don’t agree with either the protestant traditionalists or the contrarians, I find it difficult to describe my perspective on this subject. I’m considering calling myself a “reformist”. Many people have been taught that Jesus discarded the religious beliefs and practices and prohibitions of the Hebrew patriarchs and prophets of antiquity in favor of an entirely new religious system. I don’t agree with that either. Instead, I think of the teachings of Jesus as building on - even enhancing - the faith of Abraham. I think of the Wesley brothers as building on the faith of Martin Luther. And I think twenty-first century protestants should continue the reformation by building on the reforms with which we agree but without necessarily discarding ALL of the beliefs and practices and prohibitions of previous generations. Most people who agree with me about this will, of course, not call yourselves “reformists”. You probably don’t want to have to explain the sense in which you are using that word. I, for one, am not comfortable with any of the labels with which other people are comfortable. I called myself a protestant for several decades but almost everyone else thinks that means I’m a protestant traditionalist or a contrarian. So far as I know, “reformist”, isn’t a label adopted by someone else. If I do begin describing myself that way, how long do you think it will take for someone else to try to define it in a way entirely different from what I intend it to mean?

@@rogermetzger7335 I was more talking about your original comment on the top, I hardly read what you said in the second one. I watched this video all the way through, and I don't agree with all the doctrines discussed, but I do agree it's more common for people to misrepresent a faith they're not a part of than represent it objectively like they were here. In answer to your questions: 1.-Of course I consider reforms after the 16th century important! I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which was founded in 1830, but I believe is Christ's original Church restored to the Earth. 2.-I don't know what reforms the early American Pilgrims did, so I can't say whether or not I agree with them. I may look into it! I don't agree that Jesus was tossing aside everything the Hebrews had, either. In fact, in my reading of the New Testament, it seems He had great respect for the Law of Moses. What Jesus didn't have respect for was the hypocrisy that the Jewish leaders of the time had. I agree with you on that Jesus' teachings build on the Law of Moses rather than tear it down!

Jonathan Barb - I was raised in a Presbyterian church, but the definition/description of "predestination" provided in this video differs from that which I was taught at my church. Since you are a Presbyterian minister, perhaps you can enlighten me. The way I understood it, Presbyterians believe in predestination in the following way (I'll articulate it in my own words and trust that you can place it into context with the official wording) - We are beings with free will. Some will exercise that free will to do good things; others will exercise it to do bad things. But since salvation is determined by faith and acceptance of Christ as our savior, our chosen acts (good or bad) are not determinant. That is, nobody is predestined for salvation based on acts or behaviors. Nor are we predestined at birth. A person becomes predestined for salvation upon accepting Christ and, by extension, accepting the role as a an agent of God. That person, now predestined for salvation, exercises free will. Of course, our savior would prefer for that person's exercise of free will should be to commit acts of good. But whether the acts of this person are good, bad, or mediocre, God uses those acts to bring other souls to Christ. In that way, the predestined soul is an agent of the Trinity. And because he/she has made the conscious decision to accept Christ, that acceptance is what leads to salvation. Is this the way the Presbyterian Church still teaches it? I ask for your input because I have been overseas for almost two decades - far from any Presbyterian congregation. I truly have almost no connection to that church anymore.

The central thing that is always overlooked in explorations of Christianity is that most people are the denomination they are simply based on what church dominated the country that the majority of their ancestors came from. Only people who take the time to ask themselves "hey...does this denomination REALLY teach what I believe ?" are ones who might switch from what was handed down to them. Either that or they may switch because they married someone from a different denomination, and they just agree to do so to keep the peace with their spouse. Roughly and generally speaking, if the majority of your ancestors came from Ireland (except for Northern Ireland), Italy, Poland, France, Belgium, southern Germany or Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Czechoslovakia or if you are Hispanic, you will almost always be Roman Catholic and never question it. If they came from Greece, the Ukraine, Russia or Serbia, you will be Eastern Orthodox. If they came from northern or central Germany or the Scandinavian countries, you will be Lutheran. If they came from England or Wales, you will be Episcopalian or Methodist, or perhaps Baptist if you live in the southern states in the US, or you are living in the state of Utah, you will most likely be a Mormon. If they came from Africa and you are Black, you will probably be Baptist, Pentecostal or Methodist. If they came from Scotland or the Netherlands or are Scotch-Irish from Northern Ireland, you will be Presbyterian or Reformed. And so on and so forth. And in almost every case, you will never question if the given denomination teaches what you truly believe.

@@Shindler39 Yes I have been Shindler. When I was getting married however, my fiancé went to a Pentecostal church (she had been raised Catholic and had been drawn away by her sister in law) so I went along a few times with her. To be blunt, all that seemed to happen was that they sang a few pop songs over and over and over for what seemed an eternity, then they were given what I call an "Amway" sales talk that lasted for forty minutes and that was it. I find it telling that all those churches have a "stage" where we have an altar which to me sums it up. Because she had left the faith, it made me research what it was that they were being taught and why - this was before the internet - so I managed to track down a book called Catholicism vs Fundamentalism which really explained the differences beautifully, including all the scriptural references that the Church draws on to arrive at the Catechism. One of the things that fascinated me was that she had obviously been indoctrinated about all the "evils" of the Catholic church and yet I had never once heard anything "anti Protestant" preached in all my years of attending a Catholic Church, so I was at a complete disadvantage to begin with. All I really knew about Protestantism was that there were a multitude of different denominations and they couldn't agree among themselves, except that they didn't accept the authority of the Pope as head of the Church, they didn't believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist and that some of them didn't believe in the baptism of infants. That was about it really. On the few occasions I had been in a Protestant church (with the exception of the Anglicans) they were very plain and dull and certainly didn't move me spiritually in the way a Catholic church does. While many people criticise the Church for its art, most forget that it stretches back into the dark ages as a way of telling the stories from the bible to people who couldn't read. Similarly, the churches were built by the local people who gave what they could to try to glorify and honour God and looked on it as the one piece of true beauty they could enjoy in their hard life. So while people criticise "the Church" for its wealth, it is owned by the very people who participate and has been accumulated over centuries. When, a few years ago we went to Rome and visited St Peters, I can recall thinking to myself "This is mine!" Who are we to disparage and belittle the faith of those who have gone before us? Beauty is a gift from God, as are our talents. Look at the music that has been written for the Church - it is just one expression of art as sculptures, architecture and painting are all other expressions, equally valid. So by using our talents in this way to honour God to me just makes sense. Lastly, there are now so many really coherent and respectful Catholic apologists you can watch on KZbin who can explain the faith and refute the disinformation (or in newspeak "Fake News") I would encourage you to really research into the explanations they give to Protestant objections. I believe you will discover a richness and beauty in the faith that is there for the asking, which goes back to my original point about the pixelated photo. Why eat at McDonald's when there is a Michelin starred restaurant right next door...

@@Shindler39 If you want to grow as a Christian WITHIN the Church, have a look at all the programmes they have to offer - retreats, study courses, both online and if you are lucky at a physical location near you. There is a wealth of stuff available but sometimes I think the Church has gotten so well organised with it, it is too "corporate" and feels removed from the day to day experience of an average parishioner. It is yours to discover though. For me, it really comes down to a matter of Sanctification. We are on a spiritual journey through our lives here on earth trying to become like Christ. Each time we sin, it slows down our progress towards total holiness. That's why I so appreciate the sacraments the Church offers - Holy Eucharist, Confession and absolution, Marriage - and who wouldn't want to have Annointing and Last Rites? This is all part of the richness of the faith that you simply don't get in Protestant churches. It's a bit the same with the idea of Purgatory, (you know the one - ask your Baptist friends and they will have a heart attack LOL) but I really believe that when we leave this world, as believers, we are drawn to God, but first we are confronted by those things that maybe we never truly repented - pride being foremost among them. This realisation of those transgressions makes us ashamed and gives us the opportunity to truly and fully repent before God. That's what purgatory means to me. The final cleansing before being one of the saints. Therefore the further along we are on our spiritual journey here on earth, the less we have to confront when we finally get to the other side. All the tools in the Church help in this journey and there are so many more of them than what I see in any Protestant Church. It's like trading down from a Mercedes to a Hyundai - they are both cars, but we all know which one we would rather have. Lastly I would say to you, don't let the sin of pride get in your way - if in your heart you are being drawn back to the faith, then swallow your pride and embrace it. You will get even more out of your journey back into the Church having stepped out - just re-read the story of the Prodigal Son. I am praying for you...

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who has been immersed in the religion her whole life, I can say that the religion you called the slang term "Mormon" is very much a Christ-worshipping faith. The term "Christian" defines a follower of Christ, yeah? Well, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints very much encourages following Christ's teachings. Thus it is very much a Christian faith, although it may be a little different from the others doctrinally. If you don't believe me, why don't you look into the religion itself through the scriptures it teaches from? They encourage reading from the Bible. That much you can relate to. The Book of Mormon is about the ancient Americans, and is very much centered around Christ. The things it teaches are very much in harmony with what the Bible teaches.

Thank you for not representing nontrinitarian viewpoints unfairly. Interestingly, the Church of Christ, Scientist is also nontrinitarian. I personally am a nontrinitarian Christian who is a member of the Disciples of Christ, a denomination that takes no stance on the trinity either way. Since every translation of the Bible has some verses that are clearly nontrinitarian and some verses that are clearly trinitarian, I believe that we should all be able to be considered true-believing Christians.

In other words, all came from the Catholic Church at some point... To me, a Church preceding all other "splits" have to be the one created by Christ originally. Scripture doesn't mention the need for future splits from the existing Church; on the other hand, plenty of warnings against false teachers. _(All protestant denominations have a man responsible for their creations, and most take place in modern days)_ Paul also states that there should _not_ be any schism among the faithful, so based on that, the actions of Luther and other reformers are highly questionnable; God never abandoned his people in times of error; he kept the same order of things but replaced leaders in their office. (Moses, David, Salomon, etc).

@Asaph Vapor Get your facts straight, Asaph. Acts 11: 26 mentions that THOSE in the Church were _called_ Christians (in Antioch). It was in no way the "name" of the Church. *Funny thing though:* The BISHOP of Antioch was Ignatius of Antioch, around 100 AD. He was taught the faith by John the apostle himself... and HE said the following: _"See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude of the people also be; even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. -Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Ch 8, 110~ AD"_ ...The Catholic Church, Asaph, and look at the year it was used. And it also shows an AUTHORITY of the Church, which you deny. (back then THE Bishop was a reference to the Pope) The word means "Universal" in greek, and was already used as a qualifier of the one true Church in the first century whether you agree with it or not. We used this name to identify ourselves, and stand out from those who would "claim" to be the "true church". _(against the docetists, Marcionists, early gnostics, etc)_ If you could talk with Ignatius, Asaph, what do you think he would say to you? Would you debate and deny his insights as well? _(Remember, no biblical canon back then; sola scriptura was not even possible)_

To any Jehovah’s witness I ask how does Daniel 10:13 effect the way you see Jesus? The verse says: “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” So is Jesus just one of the chief princes? I encourage you to read this verse, in context, and understand who and what Jesus really is. Colossians 1:16-17 "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” This verse shows that even Michael was created by Jesus. I pray that your eyes will be opened to who He is.

The Catholic Church has always taught that you can not buy spiritual things although certain clergy at the time of the reformation may have pushed the idea, official Church teaching has always and always will be to the contrary. God gave us one Bread( the Eucharist) and made us one body( The Roman Catholic Church). He doesn’t desire us to not know what the scriptures and traditions teach so he gave the Magesterium to be his voice concerning faith, morals,doctrines, and dogmas (Mathew 18:18).

It was very visible starting with the apostles being the first Bishops. The Bible clearly states various churches in various cities. You are the one who is talking nonsense. This church started by Jesus Christ will be protected by him till the end of time. The only church started right from the beginning and can be seen in history is the Catholic Church. All Protestant churches of which you are part of started after the year 1520 because of Martin Luther's heresy. That bothers a Protestant like yourself quite a bit and this is why you say the nonsense you do
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor the problem is Martin Luther's idea of justification did not come from the Bible but himself. You will not find Bible alone or faith alone for salvation in the Bible. As a matter of fact until the Catholic Church put the Bible together in about the year 400 ad Christian teaching was done by the church through sacred tradition. Jesus Christ never says everything you need to know will be written down in a book nor does his apostles. Faith alone is not in the Bible or was ever said by any of his apostles it always was faith and works together for salvation. Protestants like yourself are taught that Catholic Doctrine is not biblical when in fact everything the church teaches is in the Bible. Martin Luther did no Christian any good by his heresy. He separated Christianity through his Satan inspired idea of justification and you say that is good You are implying that Jesus Christ started a church and then forgot about it till Martin Luther came along 1520 years later. Baloney, he said he would protect it till the end of time and the Catholic church has stood this promise no matter what people like you say. Every Protestant church was founded after the year 1520 and the church you belong to today was founded by a man not Jesus Christ or the apostles. By the way, what Protestant Church do you belong to and why do you think it is the church started by Jesus Christ?
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor one doctrine of faith that is in the Bible is the authority of the church. The Bible is all truth but is not the only truth it was never meant to be that. You are taught as a Protestant that scripture alone for everything you need to know and you disregard the authority of the church. Martin Luther did the same thing. New doctrines weren't invented. That is Protestant nonsense again something you were taught. I noticed you didn't tell me your Protestant denomination and why you think it's the church founded by Jesus Christ. Instead you say the Catholic Church is not the church founded by Jesus Christ when history shows it was
@zacharyvandress1120
@zacharyvandress1120 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor all authority comes from God. Jesus Christ as God on Earth established his church and it's a visible Church. The apostles were the first Bishops and they anointed their successors who were the Bishops and Priests of the church. The church had structure and this is evident in the scriptures. The apostles defined Doctrine early on and there is an unending chain that can be seen in the Catholic Church which is the universal church. You still did not give me your Protestant denomination apparently you are ashamed of it

The Presbyterian and Calvinist Church of Scotland took the concept of Protesting to its logical conclusion and have had many, many schisms over the years. While some have re-united or merged with different branches over the years, have currently have The Church of Scotland (the National, but NOT established church), The Free Church, The Free Church (Continuing), The United Free Church, The Free Presbyterian Church, The Associated Presbyterian Churches, and The Reformed Presbyterian Churches. That's before you include the Scottish Episcopal Church - the only church in the Anglican Communion that is not a daughter church of the Church of England, but instead stems from parallel movements within the Scottish church when James VI ascended the English throne as James I. We also have two slightly distinct groups of Roman Catholics. Lowland Catholics, mostly descended from 19th Century Irish Immigrants to the big cities (though added to by Italians, Poles, Lithuanians, and Others over the decades) and Highland Catholics who are the last vestiges of Pre-Reformation Scotland. Because of the highly-Centralised nature of the Catholic church, the distinction is more cultural among the people (though most share the same Football team) We've quite a lot going on, especially considering only around 52% of our ~5M population identifies as Christian (going by 2011 census)

One thing that divides denominations is how a pastor comes to serve a congregation. Catholics, Anglicans, and Methodists believe that a bishop should appoint a pastor to serve a congregation. Othe Protestant denominations believe that a congregation should call a minister to the pulpit. There are pros and cons to both ways to pick a pastor.

Many of these protestant churches work on people's emotions. Bible already prophesied, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry". 2Timothy 4:3-5 "if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God,the pillar and foundation of the truth" 1 Timothy. 3:15.

You notice that everyone considers these as "beliefs?" A belief is different from understanding. Beliefs are feelings, hearsay, and hopeful wishes and not provable. Understanding can be demonstrated, proven, and scientifically explained. There haven't been any religious events that can meet the latter criteria.

To be fair to Catholics, the Pope does not decide Catholic doctrine and he cannot change cannon law even if he does make an "ex cathedra" statement. (Only happened 5 times ever) Also, inferring Catholics place human authority as higher than the Bible is a mis-representation of their theology. I'm Protestant, but we need to stop mis-representing Catholics or putting words in their mouth based on our perceptions of them or "what a Catholic I know told me". Also, Lutheran's do not believe communion is literally the body and blood of Christ (transubstantiation). Luther taught consubstantiation, that Christ was spiritually present "in, under, and through" what continued to be bread and wine. So that was inaccurate as well.

My orientation is Christian Presbyterian-Waldense Italian-Pentecostal Anabaptism. The church that I go is “The Christian Congregation in Brazil” They have all around the world, (* instead add Brazil in the end of the name, you can add the name of your country). Christian Congregation is a non-denominational Christian church, Resulting from a synthesis between doctrinal elements of the Presbyterian-Waldense, Anabaptist historical Protestant basis and the so-called Pentecostal Revival of Chicago (1908), the Christian Congregation initially presents itself as an adenominational segment and categorically opposed to ecclesiastical institutionalism. Louis Francescon was among the early founders of the Italian-American Pentecostal church in Chicago. He had left the First Italian Presbyterian Church of Chicago because of his belief in Water Baptism by immersion. Later he accepted the doctrines of anointing with oil, miracles, and Holy Spirit baptism at the North Avenue Full Gospel Mission led by William Howard Durham. Evangelists from Chicago went to the Italian colonies in the United States planting churches mostly in the Northeast. Most of those churches were incorporated into the Christian Church of North America, with a few affiliated with the Christian Congregation in the United States. The beliefs of the Christian Congregation are set forth in their 12-articles of Faith. They believe in the Trinity, and in the Bible, salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. They accept the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and divine healing and miracles. The church holds two ordinances - water baptism by immersion and the Lord's supper. Congregational worship is held inside a chapel. Hymn singing is accompanied by a brass/silver orchestra. The inscription "In the Name of the Lord Jesus" is displayed and a baptismal font at the front of the chapel. As expressed in subsequent sections, the Christian Congregation differs from conventional Protestantism or even classical Pentecostalism in several respects. These include her openly apolitical character, her defense of the universal priesthood, her opposition to tithing and other Old Testament practices, spontaneity in worship, and his deliberate opposition to the media. The Christian Congregation has no liturgical calendar and the council of elders advises the faithful not to participate in festivities or religious celebrations, even if they are popularly Christian celebrations such as Christmas (for claiming no biblical basis) or Easter (for considering a Jewish celebration, replaced by Jesus with the Holy Supper). The denomination does not proclaim the keeping of a specific day as sacred, neither Sunday nor Saturday, but that every day is sanctified. As for space, there is a sense of sacredness about their prayer houses. Also The Christian Congregation does not use media such as radio, television, print, or any other propagation of its doctrine other than attending any of its churches by those interested in knowing it and personal evangelism.

I always stick to Baptist, Methodist, or Pentecostal churches because they are the most biblical based. Baptist on scripture [whether some one is old or young being baptized is not important]. Methodists do not put high regarded to church titles but they do have church h structure like Pastors leading sermons and communion. Then Pentecostals actually are open about speaking in tongues, which not all do, but is given to anybody in the Holy Spirit. The rest seem to change based on world influence or with old traditions of believing that people have authority and not God.

Our Protestant interlocutors will claim they are members of the spiritual or invisible church when in fact Christ established a very visible and vibrant and physical Church. Catholics do not deny the spiritual dimension of the Church, but in order to be a spiritual member of the Church, one who also be a physical member of the Church to worship in Spirit and in Truth. This video addresses THE SPIRITUAL CHURCH FALLACY, and shows that the Church is to be easily found as a light upon a hill cannot be hidden. @Asaph Vapor Says: Church is the body of Christ consisting of all believers, with Christ as the head. You are not a believer in the Church Christ called "MY CHURCH." You think you are, but that is the fallacy. You are not one of the saints. No Heterodox are members of the Body of Christ. Acts 15, what would and did happen to the Judaizers after the Ruling Loosing the Gentiles from the Mosaic Law (i.e. Circumcision) and Binding the Judaizers to observe the ruling? Jesus tells us what will happen: Matthew 18:15-20. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to *listen even to the church,* let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Now we know this can't be referring to your CULT because it didn't exist at the time of the Apostles and Acts 15. But my Church did. The Epistle to the Romans and Paul even mentions the Judaizers in the letter to my Church. Every single passage you quoted only refers to those in the physical and visible Church found in the New Testament. And the Roman Church is one of those Churches. Since you are a coward and will not reveal your cult, they we don't know the name of your CULT and thus it follows that you and I both know that it isn't mentioned in the New Testament. Therefore, you are a false Christian. You need to put @R. Zell in your beginning comment for me to see it.
@Ryan_Zell
@Ryan_Zell 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor Notice each of your passages are addressed not to believers, but to members of the VISIBLE, VIBRANT and very PHYSICAL Church which are the true believers. The Spiritual Church is found within the Physical Church where we worship in Spirit and Truth. We are all connected, both the saints of the past, the saints in the present and the saints who will be here when He comes again to separate His sheep from the Protestant goats. And according to Paul we are members of His Kingdom since Jesus gave Peter the authority to Bind and Loose on behalf of the Church. Binding and Loosing is the same as Open and Shut of heaven to the Heterodox. Paul casts out several believers into the hands of Satan. That is what it means to be outside the Church or the narrow gate. Protestantism is of the wide gate with 40,000 and growing cults and denominations. Sorry dude, but again, you misread scripture.
@Ryan_Zell
@Ryan_Zell 5 жыл бұрын
@Asaph Vapor You say this: The biblical model of church a SPIRITUAL CHURCH which is the BODYOF CHRIST with MANY PHYSICAL CHURCHES. It's a spiritual kingdom consisting of all believers with Christ as the Head. All the visible and physical Churches mentioned in the New Testament are all part of the same physical Church. You deny John 21:15-17 and Luke 10:16. You follow the Post-Reformational apostles of false gospels. You will not find any person in the New Testament who professed "Jesus is Lord" and wasn't a member of this physical Church which is still here with us to this present day. Its not just Rome. Its all the Churches in scripture. There are no denominationalism in the New Testament. Rome is just where the Ecclesial Authority is which Jesus gave to Peter and the Apostles. So you are again refuted. For anyone reading this comment, please go here to listen to "The Spiritual Church Fallacy." Do a youtube search to find it on the Zell Challenge Channel. Blessings all.

This is why both Wycliffe & Tyndale were persecuted and burnt (Wycliffe posthumously). It was only when they couldn't beat the demand for a vulgar tongue bible, that they produced the Duoauy Rheims around 1570+-, and even this was translated from Jerome's Latin Vulgate. But prior, any other Bible than the Vulgate was completely outlawed for a century.

Just two minor nitpicks. Indulgences were never a "get out of hell free" card, but rather a "reduce time in purgatory" card, which is a whole nother can of worms as many Protestants dont believe in purgatory. Secondly, the Catholic Church did not forbid the bible in different languages, but that all translations had to be approved by the Church, and that Mass should be said in Latin in Western Rite (I.E. 99% of Catholic churches) because Latin was the traditional language in the West. The 4th century Vulgate was declared the official Latin Translation of the bible in mid 16th century, but not long after the Douey-Rheims bible was translated into English, approved, and printed in 1582.

Wrong during the Middle Ages the Roman Catholic Church held a virtual monopoly of faith in Western Europe. However, between the 14th and 17th centuries a series of Northern European reforms led to what is now called the “Protestant Reformation” culminating in a mass exodus from the near total control of Christianity from Rome. The Reformation began in 1517 when Martin Luther, an monk, nailed 95 propositions to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany. These proposals for reform challenged many contemporary church practices. Committed to the idea that salvation only could be reached through faith and “divine grace”, Luther compiled the list of grievances known as the “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences” -- The 95 Theses. It started as a movement against what its followers perceived to be errors in the Catholic Church. Protestants originating in the Reformation reject the Roman Catholic doctrine of papal supremacy, but often disagree amongst themselves. Martin Luther intent was to spark a debate within his church over a reformation of Catholicism. Instead, Luther and those who followed him found themselves at the forefront of a new religious movement.
