From 1 June 2024, you can only use SimplyGo EZ-Link cards. Here’s what they are, and why you might be using them without you knowing.

This new system is definitely going to be an annoyance for our elderly. I would even predict that it will get worse in the future for them. It is very likely topping up will only be possible through the app. The government and SMRT will likely argue that most people are using the app to top up. So, the physical machines would likely be removed and those that want to top up physically will have to queue up at the counter. Not all our elderly are fortunate enough to have family and friends around to help them adapt to the digital world. Most of our elderly just want to use their phones to stay in touch with family and friends. Not download 100s of apps just to be able to live in the country.

As a tourist, I appreciate the ability to check balance on the app. But not being able to see the balance when you tap is dumb. With the older card, since it showed the balance on the machine, it could alert you to top up or not. But with this new system, you have to keep checking the app to see if it has updated the balance. Really weird for a supposedly more advance system. And the incompatibility with the card reader in cars is another dumb one. Why push this when it's not fully implemented yet?

The best society is one that grow and make it more accessible for the whole society. Not abandoning those outdated due to their needy aid as they are the pioneers who contributed to the good living standards of our generation. All of us will eventually get older and we do not want to be abandoned by the society that we are grooming now.
@Way2go926
So ez-link charms also cant use anymore?
@zuukot7629
In sydney, the Opal card reader on bus and train system CAN DISPLAY Balance. Even the same card can check via apps for balance, remote top-upcards, receive notifications on their fares and balances, and block further transactions if needed.
@ntabile
Im an elderly using the simply go. With the simply go app, do I have to link the credit card to this app for me to see the transaction made?
@mrz_88
Well if internet connectivity is ever present and stable then this system will work well but once internet down then how can the user know how much balance he has in the app
@Tokitok0
blue cat no friend😭
@muhammadkhir3130
We pay more, we do the value checking, we do the topping up, we squeeze more compact like sardines . Technology is advancing but the implementation is going backwards.
