I think this video is a miss in a few areas. It's being explained like you Already have an understanding of game knowledge that a noob wouldn't know - things like talking about the desirable tags on an item's mods without first explaining tags. Not clarifying basic noob-trap concepts, like the opportunity cost of having bad mods, regardless of them being T1.

Love the idea for the series! I don't know if you use PoE Awaken but I think a video on that would be really good to throw in. Being able to price check items in-game with a hotkey is pretty awesome. And if you don't know what something is you can set a hotkey to open poe wiki on it.. also really good. It completely changed the game for me as far as just being able to participate in selling. In combination with the newly released currency exchange the game is in such a great spot if you can just get those couple things down as a new player. I was able to find like 5 chaos on my hardcore character and was able to buy everything I could every need and then some. 20 alchemy, 200 trans, a quill rain, and Hyrri for my explosive arrow build. Before this league I had never participated in trading and stuff but the currency exchange kinda made everything come together since I can see exactly what everything is worth. The currency exchange or poe awaken tells me 1 chaos = 14 alchemy and suddenly the entire trading and currency system came to life. Maybe the series is going over my head lol buy I wanted to share that experience as a "newer" player. I have played lots before this... just never like I'm doing now. Before it was all just stuff and clutter in my inventory that I knew I was probably never going to use lol but now I could trade it all down to chaos and divines if I wanted and buy whatever I want. It's been such a great league those 2 tools really changed the entire way I look at the game and play it.. also I feel like I'm at least 99% accurate on my prices even if I don't quite understand why an item is good (I think I'm starting to get it though).

Absolutely helpful, this is the first league I've ever tried to really craft everything that I can, myself, since the currency exchange was added and makes doing that a lot more appealing.

If flasks have the +2/3 charges when hit in addition to additional mitigation such as increased armour, increased evasion, reduced curse effect etc they're usually worth 50-100c. For clusters, you're looking for 8 passive 3 notables for large clusters and 4 passives 2 notables for mediums. The specific bonuses like +x attributes or chaos res is dependent on the cluster and the builds that are within the meta at the moment.

It's very simple. Go on poe ninja, filter most popular builds, see what clusters they use, craft them. I liteeally made 25div/hr just rerolling clusters with lifeforce, easier than ever now with currency exchange. Follow this pattern for anything not just clusters. Otherwise for rares, if it ain't t1, it ain't worth shhh. There, items explained.
@ruibarian5187
@ruibarian5187 Ай бұрын
@@chriscarnage9467 Worth noting, not all notables are good. There are a lot of "dud" notables that you don't want in combination with the other in demand notables, and the weights of notables are not all the same. Clusters are really something you need to look up on PoeDB if you want to craft one for yourself, and you just need to know the meta if you want to craft and sell them.

One of the things that new players don't understand is why 80 or 100 life can be considered a good mod, especially when an average character can have 4 or 5k life, and 80 or 100 compared to the total doesn't seem to make much difference. What they don't know is that those 80 or 100 are not simply added to the total life, but are affected by all the % increased maximum life from the passive tree, so what is actually added is much more than what an item says. It might seem trivial and basic to experienced players, but it's not at all for newcomers.

I think doing episodes of gear slots to make it a lot more digestible for people than having to piece together a bunch of videos going over everything at once. Also, you should do a video discussing how to find non-starters once you’ve gotten currency. Casuals don’t know how to find good endgame builds, or how to level them without a build guide such as the ones you make.

I agree- an episode on chest armour for different classes/play styles would be great. Then weapons (maybe need two episodes for that), belts, boots and gloves, helmet and off hand would be a great series. Maybe an episode or two on flasks, jewels, and corrupting. I’d watch them all.

Doing specific slots would also make it easier to search for for new players, if you have an axe that you're wondering if it's worth anything, it's way easier to search for the "pricing axes" video than to comb through a bunch of general videos for tips about pricing axes

+1 vote for separate videos per slot. Makes it a lot easier to start simple and get more in-depth towards the end. Having examples of early, mid, and end game items for a couple different build types would help people visualise what we see in your build guides (nothing too specific, just like 'this is what an armour focused melee build would want compared to a mana stacking archmage'). I'd also suggest a video focused entirely on implicits, influences and corruptions, and the different ways they can be effective at making insane items. Veiled items will also need their own video I feel, just because Betrayal is still super confusing for tons of new players.

I think it makes sense to make (some) general video(s) first that's important for all builds - life and resistances - When are which bases good and why? When to go for armor/es vs only es...? - Mana management and reservation efficiency? (Incl. things like-X mana cost) - Suppression? Why it's important and where to find them (rings, ...?). Continuing with other affixes and when or in which combination they are good. - offensive stats (add xyz damage to... vs spell damage vs physical damage) - block stats Or some special cases like - bleed - mana/int (stacker) gear - ES (e.g. CI) - Minion gear? - ? Focusing on understanding the affixes and including some gear piece examples (not high end but a direction, especially for things that might not make it in build guides or would help someone to change things up a bit themselves, like jewels and when they are worth getting). Note: Those videos should ignore gems and the tree for the most part, only mentioning some core ones or examples that are the reason behind the importance for some affixes, like archmage, CI...

Thank you for this video! I think a series like that is really necessary - learning an ARPG comes down to understanding *why* something is valuable and what the mechanics (and interactions between them) are making it work. It's the same for build guides: Many builds out there written for new players just say "You want this gear, this stat, this passive" etc, without explaining why that is. Sure, you can copy it and it'll work, but it will not really help you understand the game better.

As someone who is relatively new to PoE I do find this video helpful. I don't really know what items are good or not so I just simply put them up for 5 or 10 chaos and continue blasting. I also don't know what cluster jewels are good. I usually base an items value on if the affixes work well with one another. Res/life, damage with melee/axes staves swords, crit multi,chance etc. Edit: I am also very confused with influenced items, I always see different armors and weapons on the marketplace with eldritch tentacles in the background or lightning or glowing I kind of struggle as to what that means for the item.

Influenced items have access to a new set of mods specific to that influence. If you use PoE Awakened Trade overlay, then when price checking the overlay with mark you the specific mod, but you can also hold ALT hovering over the item and it will show you which mods are of the influence, but that is a little harder to notice. On it's own influence has little value, but can be used to get mods that are strong on certain builds.

For someone like me who this is my first league everything is about context. I think it might be more useful to take a specific popular build and and walk though why is this gear good at early game, why would this gear be good at mid game, and why would this gear need to be what it is to qualify for end game builds. That said, cool video, and it's pretty awesome how much context you put out to help the PoE community.

One thing that i always wanted to know is how good your gear really need to be at each point of progression really. A very common experience with poe is getting one shot all the time on t16 and bosses like searing exarch etc. Yet i see many people playing on hardcore and getting to lvl100 How much phys/ele max hit you really need to have to do maps? How much for t16 and t17? And bosses? How can a player know if they are ready to "advance" I find myself using scouring orbs on t16 maps cause my character always feel so squishy, and even though im capped at resistances and have life rolls on all the non unique items, it never seems to be enough

This doesn’t apply to every build, but what I usually take care of before going into t16 or generally red maps. At least decent life rolls on all gear (not mandatory on every gear for early) , obv capped resistance, and I always get myself 2 amethyst rings and use harvest bench to craft chaos (yellow juice) which guarrentes chaos resist. I do that until I have 2 rings with decent chaos res and life/resistances. On the tree I’m more willing to give up Hp nodes for suppression if your around there. If not I get gear with suppression and life and fix resistance with belt. Endurance charges are incredible this league as well. And if you can have decent armour/evasion bases. There is a huge difference in tankyness for mapping if you have 5k of each. Also your flasks should be decent. Divine flask that gives flat life on use. And then having a granite and armour suffix role on any other flask. You have to be freeze immune at least. Try to get the divine vessel for the pantheon early. I also take the reduced effect of shock. Reduced effect of curses on a flask is good too. And then movement speed boots. Hopefully you follow build guides that have decent damage without a lot of investment during league start

Highly depends on the build. RF can go into T16 with basically act gear and not die all that often, if at all. Depending on map mods, naturally. As for HC, they sacrifice DPS for survival. Can't really compared it to SC.
@Goremize
@Goremize Ай бұрын
When I hit mapping I had 90% Fire/Lightning/Electricity resist, shortly after hitting 75% chaos. Then wearing something that converts phys to elemental like Lightning Coil means all phys damage is reduced by 50% into 90% resists, essentially halving all phys damage taken. Its much better then armour, much much better. Then you get your health up as close to 7k as possible and realise one shot mechanics have not been one shot mechanics for a long time, especially with RF and stacking to close to 3k life regen per second.
@Zenbubbles
@Zenbubbles Ай бұрын
Honestly, you can also look at knowing when to advance in another way: If you can afford to take a chance at the next hurdle, take it. Meaning, if you have multiple t16 maps, why not use one to try and see if you can do it? If you have enough Maven splinters to fight Maven, but you could REALLY use the chaos and dont want to waste the splinters, then you're not ready. The game never really forces you to pay (chaos) for content you are not ready for.

The funniest to me was I realised that the best sceptre upgrade for my RF build was literally a staff that only had two modifier's or maybe 3 so that I could triple craft it with Fire damage multiplayer and damage over time increase or 60% increased fire damage. Managed to find someone selling one with 150% fire damage increase (with the 40% implicit) and was so happy to not need to use orbs of annulment and hope for luck. This was after using 800 alterations and only seeing two nearly perfect sceptres with 26% damage over time multiplier (never rolled two fire damage once), but then terrible other ones that would have denied crafting and the orb always got rid of it so resorting to hoping someone sold one good enough worked. I would have paid so much more for it as that sceptre only cost a few chaos, lol.

This is coming from someone who has ~500 hours in the game, played 6 - 7 different builds always got to maps and further. My BIGGEST struggle currently is when I do manage to complete all the maps and get 2-3 void stones I can't figure it out after that on how to improve my already decent build without spending 10s and 100s of divines. Looking forward to this series

As someone who has looked on blank-faced while some streamer or KZbinr has been going crazy over an item, I think I needed this video.

Amazing, please continue with such series. Personally i'm clueless about influenced items in terms of them being good for certain builds, would be nice if you could show us some good and bad examples.

I think base types would make a great video. Like the difference between a Gemini claw and Imperial claw when they look the same at quick glance.

a tip for new players regarding "pricing" stuff that helps to make currency: Get 1 or 2 stash tabs where you put all of the 1 slot items that you get and don't know if they are worth anything. The stash tab then should have an overall price set to it (Friends of mine do multiple with staggering prices, I have one with 80c for example) You might be underselling some stuff but that's better than if you would've vendored it and it's basically effortless

i like this series already. i noticed that i either vendor everything i find or just dump it in the stash. depending on how i feel :D understanding items properly helps a lot. thank you :)

As a new player, it'd be REALLY helpful to get a video going through actual crafting of items. For me, gear with an open pre and suffix is harder to value because I don't actually understand how to craft both. I understand you can only bench craft 1 affix on an item, even if it has 2 open slots, so I often just vendor probably what would be pretty decent gear. It'd also be awesome to get a video explaining all the different crafting methods and crafting items (essences, etc) and when it makes sense to do it.
@skryah
@skryah Ай бұрын
The reason videos like this don't work is that crafting pieces of gear varies WILDLY per slot, let alone the variation per build archetype and type of items they use. It's not productive to explain crafting in general, as opposed to explain crafting gear pieces for a specific build - which we cover in videos where it's relevant. -Skryah (editor)

@@skryah The best thing any player should do is just use the trading third party programs, they tell you what things are worth. Trying to work it out for yourself is impossible even for people playing over 5 years. There are items in this league I have seen people put up for prices that will never sell all league, then other items people have put up for far cheaper then they should have. See it all the time.
@ryanmitchell1721
@ryanmitchell1721 Ай бұрын
@@skryah that's totally fair. Perhaps I should have framed it as - a general video explaining all the various crafting methods and materials needed for each, i.e. there's bench crafting (explaining what limitations there are with this), when you can and cannot use essences on gear, how end game players are crafting fractured magic items, etc. Less build specific, but more general "these are all the crafting options in the game". I'm probably doing a bad job at explaining the ideal video, but either way, this was a really helpful vid!

What I think would be cool is a video talking about how to know which affixes to target to scale damage for different skills. And like, where those affixes are available (influenced mods for example)
@XPsychomeister
@XPsychomeister Ай бұрын
What a lot of players are looking for is ideas on what content to farm if they need specific mods. Think about making a video about targeting Betrayal unveils, Incursion mods, Delve exclusive mods, Ultimatum Double Corrupts and Catalysts, Early game influenced mods, Eldritch implicits, etc.

I actually have heard today in some old Poe crafting guide that higher item level increases the chances of item rolling higher tiers (not enabling higher ones, but just increasing the chance). No idea if it's true, just pointing it out

yesss, keep it coming! good stuff! edit: right now the struggle i have is going from what i have, which is rather decent, ok-ish gear for lvl 94, to the next tier of gear that's gonna carry me to lvl 100. Feel like I should be getting more suppression, but even then I feel it's phys damage that's been getting me. Pob: KulaTejando on poe ninja

Would it be possible to maybe cover what sort of gear or stat distribution / stats quality (maybe not the right term: I meant maybe some percentage to possibly aim for compared to Optimal stats you might find for super late game stages of a desired build (for example, post Act 10 vs Uber Lab vs Shaper and such where a really good equipment setup/passive setup is starting to become more and more important.) For example, when reaching mapping, where resistances are pretty much mandatory or at least so far from my little experience (maybe some exceptions like the reflect damage builds with the old bramblejack for example.) Or maybe even only mentioning what sort of costs one might look for to get such gear since some people (including myself) have a hard time getting the currency to afford some of the super expensive items that reach multiple divination orbs of worth. Love the series Idea though it's a genuinely great source of insight on how you go about determining what sort of gear to look out for and how to prioritize which stat you might want according to your build. Huge thank you for the amazing content through out the years!
