A buddy once asked me if I could explain the Necrons and the Adeptus Mechanicus to him, as he'd just started playing Mechanicus for PC and he knew I play Necrons in 40K. I began with "To truly understand the Necrontyr, we need to go back roughly 60 million years." and thus began my retelling of the War in Heaven and what Jacob would later describe as the longest two hours of his life. He still sat through the whole thing because he's a good friend. 🤣

While obviously an extreme example, infodumps about my interests are a love language. While I try my best to gauge relative interest and avoid going too overboard, and try to express them in a way that is both concise and interesting, someone who can’t tolerate at least the occasional one is not someone I can maintain any kind of real relationship with.

Oh man, niche expertise infodumps are the god damn best, I don't even have to know much about the subject to be enthralled. One of my favourite youtube comments ever was on a clip from the Simpsons "The old Union Pacific doesn't go by here much anymore", and they went like 15 paragraphs in depth into why this wasn't a Union Pacific train, why the rail was unsuitable and the sound of the train wasn't right among lots of other things, it was great

I love how the lighting and camera work shift to clue you in instantly into being inside Cameron's head. I love the different freeze frame expressions Cameron and how the different parts of the diatribe he's slightly further along in the process of making the cup of tea. That's solid advice, if you lay out your silly passions and they endure/like them, it's a slam dunk. Sure it makes dating ardous and frustrating but it improves the chances to find someone you can actually be with, no matter if you like necrons or inserting things into your urethrea... or both.
