I'm not sure if this is known in Japan, but here in the United States, aside from Sonic fans loving Mephiles for being a competent villain, fans also love him for his comedic, parodic portrayal in the web video called _Snapcube's Real-Time Fandub._ _Snapcube's Real-Time Fandub_ is a web video series where actors voice over a TV show or video game in real time, resulting in the actors having to improvise jokes and a story on the fly. They've covered a variety of series like _BIOHAZARD 2_ and _Spider-Man,_ with the _Sonic the Hedgehog_ videos being the most popular. It's hard to describe the insane comedy that happens in these videos, but the closest that I can compare it to is the _Dash & Spin Super Fast Sonic_ Manga. (Though, even I don't know how well the humor in these videos sits with Japanese audiences.) As for Mephiles' portrayal in _Snapcube's Real-Time Fandub,_ he's a gamer obsessed with _Fortnite_ and tries to turn everybody into his boyfriend. It's really hard to describe his portrayal in this parody without watching the web video and laughing along to it.
