I couldn’t agree more! While some criticize it for not being a “complete” collection, it combines a staggering amount of expansion cards that make it hard to pass up. I play with this set more than I do any individual expansion pack. So glad that you enjoyed the video!

It is missing some of the cards, but most of them are do-nothing-by-itself cards. So not a big deal for me. Favor cards would be nice to have (especially to build original exploding kittens deck), but I just replaced them with Reverse cards which are great for avoiding exploding and also confuses who is next to play. So it's easier to receive cone of shame :) And because I did not have any exploding kittens game till now, it's definitely still the best edition to get.

Haha I like your methods! The favor card is a good one, especially so since players seem to throw away cat cards that are valuable to you. The “Recipes” collection is like a “best hits” of the series, which makes it an excellent starter pack! I’d also recommend looking into “Zombie Kittens”. It came out after “Recipes” and is a blast with groups. Have fun gaming!

It’s a great option for youth groups! My students love the base game. I’m actually shocked at the value of it. You get so many cards from all of the expansion packs included in this version, and it’s only $20. An awesome package for sure.

For the complete experience and to be able to play up to 10 players, wouldn't it be best to get the "Party Pack"(as the base) and then just buy ALL of the expansions individually? Or would that be TOO many cards and drag the game on for too long per session? I'm trying to decide which way to go!

You bring up a great point! If you’re eventually wanting to have all of the cards, the best bet is to play the long game and get the Party Pack and expansions. While Recipes is awesome, it’s more of a “Greatest Hits” collection, as it’s missing a lot of cards. Take care and hopefully this helps you make a decision!

Ooohh that’s a hard one! I’d say Recipes is better by a technicality, because it comes with SO many cards. That said, as a standalone game, Zombie Kittens is so much fun. It’s a great twist on the original concept. But overall, I’d say Recipes is the better buy. Hopefully that helps!

Great question! I'd say it depends on whether or not you eventually plan on collecting all of the cards. Recipes has become known as the "Greatest Hits" collection: a lot of variety but missing several other cards. For a little more money, you could add Imploding Kittens and Barking Kittens to your already existing collection and get a lot more cards. The main benefit of Recipes is that it comes with "recipe cards" that enable you to play themed games. As well, if you're starting out with nothing, Recipes gives you a lot for $30. That said, seeing as you already have the base game and Streaking Kittens, you could go either way depending on whether or not you're in the process of collecting. Hi! A question before i go and purchase one.. Does it have identifications on the top corner of the cards like the ones in zombie kittens and exploding minions have (paw & target respectively) to easily sort if we’re playing 2 players, 3 players or 4-5 players? Thanks in advanced!

Hello and thanks for reaching out! That’s a great question. In the bottom-left corner of each card, it states what edition the card belongs to. I believe the literal quote for this one is “RFD Edition”. This ensures that you will always be able to separate them. Take care and thanks for commenting!

You could totally use RFD as your starter set! The only thing is that it’s missing the Favor card from the base game, but other than that, it comes loaded with so many other cards.

Great question! The best way to look at the set is to view it as a “best hits” collection. It borrows multiple cards from the original set and the various expansion packs, without including all of the cards from each set (for example, this collection is missing the favor card and the curse of the cat butt card). All in all, it’s a really fun set, but with a few cards intentionally removed.

I’d say the standard set is the best way to go. Recipes is great, but it can also be overwhelming, even for a veteran player, due to the various card types. Plus, if you ever decide to add Recipes to your collection, it’ll make for a great addition, rather than a replacement of the original. As for favor cards, those are the ones where you play the card, and you pick an opposing player to give you a card of THEIR choice. It’s a fun card to use. The two and three-of-a-kinds are the “cat cards” that you collect throughout the game. Taco Cat, Hairy Potato Cat, etc. When combined together, you can steal other people’s cards. I hope you and your wife have a great time with whatever version you choose to pick up!

That's a great question! This set released BEFORE Zombie Kittens, so it unfortunately doesn't have any of the cards from that set. That said, it DOES include a Zombie Cat card, which acts as one of the many Cat cards (Taco Cat, Hairy Potato Cat, etc). Take care and thanks for commenting!

That’s a great question! You’re on the right track. If you combine this version with any one of the other base game versions, you’ll have enough cards for 10 players. You make a great point about Zombie Kittens. While that combo would be an absolute blast, it would also be wildly chaotic! Good Vs Evil would be a much more tame option. Hello! It depends on whether or not you’re a completionist. It you go with Recipes, you’ll get at least 90% of all the cards ever made, with a handful of others left out. However, if you start with the base game and begin adding expansion packs, you’ll eventually collect all the different cards. Either way, Recipes and the base game are both great. I have a question that happened to me today, if a player uses an attack and the next one uses the catomic bomb, do the two turns end or does he have to draw a card?

Thanks for reaching out! That’s a great question. The Catomic Bomb would end one of the two turns, at which point you’d still have to play one more turn. In that instance, I try to have a “Draw From The Bottom” card in hand, seeing as it guarantees that I won’t draw an Exploding Kitten on that turn. Hopefully that helps!

Great question! It does not. It most notably is missing the Barking Kittens cards, the Curse of the Cat Butt card, and the Tower of Power hat. While not a full collection, the set still contains a massive array of cards. Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for reaching out! You can play this set in multiple ways. For starters, you can take several types of cards of your choosing and mix them together for a game, essentially making your own "recipe". Custom recipe cards are included in this set, as well. The other option is to play a game using all of them. The tricky thing about that is that it'll make for quite a long game, depending on how much time you have set aside to play it. Otherwise, the recipes will be your best bet. Hopefully this helps and take care!

Thanks for reaching out! I would say that Recipes For Disaster is a great way to go for multiple reasons. First, it gives you a massive array of cards for a fraction of the price. Secondly, the recipe cards included in the game help to keep things from getting too confusing. The only downside is that this set does NOT include every card ever made, so if you’d like to eventually own every type of card, I’d recommend starting with the original base game and adding the expansions from there. That would definitely be my recommendation! You’re getting at least 90% of the whole collection in this set. Some enthusiasts dislike not having the Barking Kittens cards and the Curse of the Cat Butt card included (which is a slight bummer), but overall it’s a steal considering how much comes with it. That’s the only bummer! In their defense, Zombie Kittens didn’t release until later, but one day I hope that they do a “revised” edition of Recipes that includes cards from every set/expansion. There’s an Amazon link in the description for Recipes if you need it. Take care and happy gaming!

Both of those are such great options! Imploding Kittens sits in the hall of fame for having one of the deadliest cards in the whole series (that being the Imploding Kitten card itself), while Zombie Kittens introduces a whole new way to play by bringing players back from the dead, a truly awesome twist. Whichever one you might get, they’re both winners!

And yes they do, but only for the cards that are new to the set, such as the Personal Attack cards and the Zombie Cat cards (the Zombie ones fit into the same category as the Tacocat cards, Hairy Potato Cat cards, etc). I haven’t found that any of the pre-existing cards have any new animations. It’s really a great set and I highly recommend it!

Thanks for reaching out! Honestly, this edition really is just a combination of all the expansion packs, except for Zombie Kittens, which technically isn’t an expansion anyways. I own all of the expansion packs myself, but I’m a bit of a completionist, so I took the plunge with this one. I’ve referred to Recipes as a “best hits” collection, because while it has many cards from the various expansions, it’s missing a handful of cards from other sets, such as “The Curse of the Cat Butt” card. Personally, I love Recipes for what it is, but it’s not essential to an Exploding Kittens gamer, especially if you have the various expansions. Hopefully this helps!

Haha I totally understand your frustration! There’s a few ways you can go with it. If you’re a completionist (like me), I’d recommend picking up the original set and then slowly adding the expansions from there. The reason for this is that Recipes is missing a handful of cards from other expansions (Barking Kitten cards, Curse of the Catt Butt card, etc.). Still, Recipes contains at least 90% of all known expansion cards, which is insane considering the reasonable price tag. The reason why I picked up Recipes myself, funny enough, is because it makes it super easy to organize your cards. It has slots for the many types of cards it comes with. Then there’s the Recipe cards themselves, which are really fun to use. Hopefully this helps you out! Take care and thanks for commenting!

Oh gosh! That’s definitely not good. Lol I noticed the lack of the Cat Butt card too. I’m curious if they intentionally left it out. The creators of the game have been very vocal about their disdain for making that card. I think they looked at this as their opportunity to get rid of it.
