Its not competitive abandonment, Explorator just isn't good. The wound rerolls are fairly inconsistent on if you'll even get them and if you do get them they still don't do much damage wise. Damage wise you're better off going with Rad Zone, the sustained hits enhancement, lethal hits strat, and reroll hits strat will give you much more output than explorator ever will. You're also more mobile with the forking auto 6" advance strat. If you want durability then SHC also way better. Having stealth all the time for a majority of your army is much better than getting double smoke, especially when that double smoke can be played around(only works when targeting infantry, so if your opponent just shoots the smoke vehicle first you never get the doubled value and may not get to use it at all) In addition SHC has better mobility options with the Advance and charge or uppy downy strats. Breachers will still die to whatever clapback your opponent has even with cover and stealth, they just aren't very durable for their cost. They'll put out obscene damage but they do not survive in the open. They're best playing in Rad zone for the sustained hits enhancement. They have full hit rerolls and will have lethal hits from a manipulus with huge volume of fire. You get 2 activations with them, 1 normal and 1 overwatch and they will typically kill whatever they shoot. Explorator does nothing for them. Cawl is takeable but typically isn't worth it. We have great hit re-roll access on skitarii via marshal and breachers via their rule. For your tanks, you'll get more value out of taking another tank instead of taking Cawl for RR1s to hit. The core of admech damage is composed of skorpius disintegrators and Skitarii Vanguards+ Marshal + Duneriders. The Skorps already have wound re-rolls on half their shots that matter(not that the stubbers aren't great chaff clear) and the vanguard combo is rocking full hit and wound re-rolls innately. Neither of these benefit from explorator. Furthermore, the CP Generation in explorator is laughable. it requires you to either be positioned very riskily or have your acquisition marker in a useless place. And if you jump through all the hoops its still only a 50/50 shot of working. And it isn't really even great because Explorator is on -1CP every command phase paying for the luxury of having their detachment rule actually get a chance to do something.

@@bsuns123123 Thank you for the wonderfully detailed response regarding both the detachment and AdMech as a whole. I do however, want to clarify a few points I might not have properly conveyed. I want to reiterate that it isn't necessarily a matter of finding Explorator Maniple to be the best detachment over the likes of SHC, but highlighting something worth exploring given the recent balance direction. Because unfortunately, I do feel AdMech codex has a bit of the same "issues" GSC had. In which nobody tried anything but one detachment and turns out the book has more play than imagined. People are finally revisiting Rad-Zone post codex release. Is it all good? Highly unlikely. But, if GW is going to make price cuts on core units, I feel it is worth at least taking it out for a spin to decide how cooked it is 😂. And this is the other side of the tech-priest coin after having reviewed Data-Psalm, so just wanted to circle back on options they go into. On the second aspect, I both agree with what you are saying but would ask you to apply that to most detachments, using one CP a round to further your gameplan. On your turn, the only strat you are realistically using is Infoslave Skull. If you do not find the need for a bonus objective that turn, it is one in the bank. On your opponent's, Incense Exhausts. So it still plays about the same way as giving yourself Lethal Dosage each turn and a defensive strat on your opponent's. But, most of all with an attempt to reconsider running this detachment, is the units utilized. Most of the units you have highlighted will receive benefits by playing within Explorator and they are core units. A thing that gets squandered in SHC and I would hope the index would allow them to benefit. So all-in-all, this is more to open up the discussion of not playing only SHC all edition. And I guess one final point I will challenge is the competitive abandonment. AdMech were abandoned all edition (with fair reason). But, once a few people figured to take a shot again, it has only been SHC. And once SHC took a hit, we once again see less players willing to put them on the table in any capacity no matter how big or small the nerf is. Is it more effort to get EM to work? 100%. However, I would like to see some level of effort. To compare things in terms of armies I enjoy myself, Obeisance Phalanx is not a good detachment. An ok defensive strat and +1 wound vs one target per round by Triarch units as the rule. Yet, Giving TSK "Triarch" has had people willing to try it. On paper, Explorator smokes it. Sometimes, we just need to be willing to try a new thing. Hell GSC finally did and turns out the book is good. Army rule had a slight change and they still don't benefit from it that much but here they go. Not to paint you as resistant to trying, I understand the frustration. Just a small blip of optimism in the light of point changes.

Ngl I just prefer rad zone because of the utter chaos it causes for someone who’s never heard of the deployment rule before 😂
