Perfect! The lady sitting in the rear seats has a striking resemblance to Frankenstein's lovely bride. The hair style is incredible. Careful with the poison ivy, the hills are full of the stuff.

The name of the railroad is the Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad. It suffered a washout in 2007 and rail service was discontinued.

POTB for sure. That lake was a logging camp and the water served the steam engine as well as the sawmill. The water tank was most likely for fire prevention and backup for the engines. This line was put in around 1900 and served the Tillamook area up until the floods that pounded the area in the eighties and the nineties. The cost to rehab this line would be immense and there isn't really enough revenue to support it. The cable/pipe running down the middle is for communications I'm told. At the time it was put in it was a cheap way to lay miles of cable really cheap and the POTB got some revenue as a result. At the confluence of the Salmonberry River and the Miami Foley road the washout was monumental. To reconstruct this would involve jumping through hoops involving salmon habitat preservation ....... reeelly expensive.

This rail line goes to Tillamook,it was wiped out in the 2007 storm, They got the funds to fix it but wasted them on the blimp hangar. The government refused to give them more money after wasting the first funds.

The Port of Tilamook Bay Railroad. This looks like the hike started at the east end at Salmonberry Creek Park, and you followed the line past Cochran Pond about 3.3 miles to the middle of the curved Wolf Creek bridge. Amirite?

Seriously they should rebuild this line again! Even if expensive !California is about to build a bullet train that we don't need being the most expensive project in the nation ! Yet they can't rebuild this!!
@whiteknightcat
@whiteknightcat 8 жыл бұрын
After the repeated storm damages, the center portion of the line was essentially destroyed, with entire embankments washed down into the Salmonberry River and multiple bridge washouts as shown in the video. By 2008, it would have cost nearly $60 million to re-build the line and there was simply not enough traffic on the line to justify those costs. In addition to the costs, each rebuilding effort negatively impacted the environment along the river to the point where there was no further way to rebuild the line while adhering to environmental restrictions. Now only the portion from Hillsboro to Banks is in service with the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad isolated at the far end of the line. Disused equipment, including former BN SD9's sit rusting away near the Tilamook Air Museum. The POTB RR still owns the ROW and everything on it, but the line is for all practical purposes permanently abandoned.

This is in Oregon. Locate Salmonberry Creek Park - it's near the intersection of Wheeler Pond Rd, Cochran Rd, and Standard Grade. Follow the dirt road along the tracks just to the south of Cochran Pond until it runs out, then just continue following the tracks more or less westward. It looks like they hiked a little over 3 miles to the middle of the big curved bridge over Wolf Creek.

Odd it says the POTB Is a spur... There are and images of the washout damage. AFAIK the POTB Doesn't run to the Tillamook anymore. There is a Tourist Railroad out of Garibaldi that runs out to Rockaway Beach but that is about it.
