Nice install mate! That bar makes life so nice and easy, was a little tricker with mine lol. This will no doubt give you guys a bunch of self recovery confidence for your big lap :)

Thanks mate! Yeah SO fortunate with the bars winch cradle access, not sure I could have managed to get it back installed by myself if I had to remove it to install 😅 Absolutely, nice to have an extra card to play if we get into any strife on our lap (or when haha).

The Ultra WInch sure has a lot of handy features. 👍

Neat job Daniel. Having your roo bar all set up for a simple drop in is smart thinking. I'll be interested to see if you ever have to use it to get yourself out of a tight spot on your planned big trip. So many winches only ever get used to assist others. There's a "because it's there" component to them. The Ultra you have is certainly quality and the 12,000 lb model will definitely be worth that bit extra. I'm watching with interest! As always, safe travels. 🙏

Thanks. A winch is one of those things I never thought I needed, but with increased solo travel (expecially with our big lap) we want that extra peace of mind that if we do get stuck in a remote area, we have one more card to play to get us to safety.

Hey Daniel, winch expert here. My recommendation would be to ditch that plastic isolator and run a metal body one. They can't handle full power draw (400a) for very long, and the last thing you want is the osolator failing when you need it most. A proper Cole Hersey metal body isolator is rated much higher and is a great addition to these installs for peace of mind.

Brilliant stuff. You made it look very simple. 👍 This winch looks like it comes with all the goods. Nice.

One thing I’d suggest with that fit is to use Loctite on all the bolts as the front end and bar take the brunt of the vibrations, and you will lose bolts trust me.

A good winch along with good quality recovery gear is a “must” when travelling solo. People knock the Kings winches but I haven’t had any problems with mine. The quality of yours looks to be good but like anything, it depends on how you treat them as to how they go long term. The best positive about having a winch is the peace of mind you get, knowing that you can self recover from most situations when solo. As someone else said, you’ll probably use it more recovering other people than yourself. I’ve been to quite a few recoveries where more than one winch is required! One recovery required two winches and every extension strap/ snatch strap we could get our hands on. One vehicle pulling backwards and the second pulling sideways to stop the stuck vehicle slipping further down the hill. Neither vehicle could get even remotely close enough to the stuck vehicle! 4 or 5 hours later, our efforts were rewarded with no damage done to any vehicle. If you don’t have an extension strap in your kit, I highly recommend adding one! I replace my winch rope every 12 months regardless of condition and I keep the old one in my kit as a spare. (They’re also handy as an extension) I’m looking forward to seeing your future trip!

Thanks mate, and woah that sounds like a full-on recovery! Fingers crossed we don't get into any situations that troublesome, but so glad to now have the winch as additional peace of mind when travelling solo. 🙂

Damn, it's just cheating with that bullbar. Very jealous of the access. Installing a winch on my ARB bar at the moment and it's a giant pain in the ass getting it in there!

Im obviously fortunate, the ARB bar for series 5 GU Patrol has rear access to install/remove winch easily. Had it out and back in to repair poor ground/neutral return inside motor housing. Typical, used the winch mid week to move some heavy items in yard, all worked - zero issues. Went out on a Sunday group trip, came across a very soft spring ontop of a mountain, all pig rooted up, never thought much of it, following track sank to diff housings front rear. Quickly run winch out, hop in, 'flick' zero happens. Climb out, winch box relays clicking no drive, WTF. Immediate call for assistance from mates driving off into distance, mate in Rodeo winched me out, **never lived that one down 😆😠. After much investigation, found the internal ground had been loose after assembly, hence it had worked up until it arked out and didn't work. Simple fix once worked out. Upon reassembly I clearly marked that ground screw head with white paint, should it ever reoccur just tighten external bolt now. Obviously its never reoccured since then.

G'day Daniel. Am I wrong to say that installing that winch was not difficult for you? Fantastic job mate let's hope you never need it
@explorebound11 күн бұрын
It went a lot smoother than I expected that's for sure - my first time installing a winch so wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but did a lot of research before attempting it which helped the process go smoothly

Looks like you're winch breather is too short ,you need it way higher than any water you may be going thru ,that's why they give you such a long hose lol ..!!!

Is it not important to guide the rope as it's getting spooled back up, so that it's not all getting bundled on one side?
@catarsky12 күн бұрын
Do not cabletie that winch positive on hose. Plastic cableties will rub through hose over time specially when you do a lot of off-road driving
