I highly recommend getting the magnetic GME handheld mount, its a simple swap and makes a world of difference.

I went the cheap option, and got a Cygnet MagMount magnetic disc mount. $15 from Officeworks/JB Hi Fi, and it'll comfortably hold the handpiece, and looks less conspicuous than the GME mount if you have the handpiece removed.

I agree the gme magnetic mount is fantastic and never let's go. It can also be retro fitted to other brand hand units.

@explorebound Жыл бұрын
@@grantricker8001 It depends which fuse you tap in to as to when it has power (IGN, ACC etc). The one used in this video has constant power so I can turn the UHF on even with the keys out of the car. 🙂
@HammerRocks2 жыл бұрын
Good work.👍 I use these (add-a-circuit) fuse taps on all my vehicles. An extremely useful product. Apart from my UHF radio, it is also how I have my dash cams, aftermarket HUD, & my Hema HX-1 powered. Though if you can find one that suits, it's always better to use an existing fuse slot that has the same fuse rating that you need for the equipment you plan to power via the fuse tap. Or even better, use a spare fuse slot that is wired but isn't being used by your vehicle - usually available if your model has a higher spec'd variant, that is loaded with more OEM accessories than what yours have (ie. sunroof, heated seats, power everything etc.).
@fatmanoverlanding2 жыл бұрын

Another neat install. I wouldn't wire the aerial through the grill. If u ever need to remove the grill ur gonna have a task to do it. I lioe to install my radio straight to the battery so I can listen to it at camp or where ever with out having the car turned on. Either way the gme unit is a good kit, now u get to learn the millions of functions it does ahah.

Didn’t he turn the radio on when the car was off? This was my question as well. Can you tap a fuse that delivers power when car is not turned on?
@krump743 Жыл бұрын
@@grantricker8001 just run a fused wire straight from ur battery into the cab to ur radio. Use the radios on off button to turn it on and off any time u like, no need to have the key in ignition this way. Imo the better way to do it as u can sit at camp listening for mates ect with out the entire ignition system on.

Excellent vid mate! Currently in the thick of this same job in my XTerrain! But I have a question. How did you fix the main unit to the inside of the centre console?
@explorebound2 жыл бұрын
I used some adhesive mounting tape, and it's also kind of jammed next to the centre console unit to add additional hold. We just finished a 2 week trip through some intense corrogations and 4wding and it held up well.
