To few likes for this video and way too many dumb comments. I think people have seriously missed the point that this gentleman has not only engineered the crap out of this bike but this is a whole level of new freedoms for those are bound to their wheelchairs. Come on people a bit more applaud and a little less " why don't you put a motor on it". Sir, I salute you and hope this project of yours gets the attention it deserves.

Why are there 5 thumbs down? Have ppl no hearts. This was an absolute pleasure to watch. Truely inspiring. These guys got to make sure that a good friend is awalys with on a ride. I hope I will always be able to walk. I love MTB biking but pedaling up hill by hand.........don't know if I got what it takes for that. Drive on brothers and be careful.

And now imagine this one with electrical support for going up the hills. This would make this bike even more fun for the handicaped. Great invention - well done !

Does anybody read descriptions, or even titles? I respect you guys for allowing others to take part in an activity that wouldn't otherwise be considered possible. I did have a question though. In the video the cycle seemed to function well on the rocks, but has there ever been a problem with pedal/crank clearance and obstacles?

The best choice are hubs with internal gears , mostly because every gear (in schlumpf or hub) can be switched even when the bike is stationary or under load. Unfortunatelly , I cannot put a link to our graphs but please look on our website, you will see that gears range is similiar as in MTB bikes and in addition can be extremly low when needed.

this is amazing and an incredible opportunity for those who can't use their legs, but it really makes me appreciate my ability to mountain bike! keep up the good work guys! as a side note, the double wishbone suspension really seems to work well here.

@castuckey Very good question! finally :) So, Explorer II is equipped with Schlumpf Mountain-Drive - cranks with internal reduction gear. Cranks works in two positions: 1:1 or reduced to 2.5:1 . Thanks it, gears can be extremly low whenever you need or normal when you want to go faster. Except the Schlumpf M-D, every bike can be equipped with hubs with internal gearing system (8 or 11 gears) or 9 spd darelieur.

New traction systems are providing traction that a pneumatic can not match. A high psi core with morphing borders.

EnergyReturnWheel Your wheel looks interesting but is it not radial in shape? If not, wouldn't that affect traction in any situation outside of going straight? Also, weight is a big deal with bikes, especially rotational weight, especially at the outside of said rotational weight, is it heavy? It is just that I have seen numerous well intentioned people try to reinvent the wheel , if you will, and every one I observed was creating more issues than it solved. Flats have become a minor issue which is readily fixable. As for suspension , that is better performed through dedicated components and frame design. Traction will always be an issue as its a balancing act between reasonable weight and contact patch and tread design. A low PSI 2.5" MTB tire is hard to beat traction wise as the advantage of pneumatic is it conforms to the ground. Its the ability to conform and weight that have made the tire so successful.

So, usually there is not even a small problem with cranks ground clearance, however if you really really want then probably you will find rocky obstacle which can hit the pedals. But like I said , usually this not happens.

Man, this is a nice invention. Watching this video and 4cross ones makes me want to ride one of this things, even not being handcapped. Seems to be much fun. I wonder why people ask so many dumb questions about it, in my opinion, its not to be a bestseller, or have the top performance compared to other products, is about freedom and be able to experience things that regular wheel chairs can't.

Im blown away buy the ingenuity of this trike! It is something which I hope prospers in the near future! My hat goes off to you! Only 1 question: 1) Maybe you could build another model which is based on the same concept but for people with little/no connections with their upper body?
@erikmueller56224 жыл бұрын
It would be relatively easy to make the back wheel steer, then have the chain run forward to a solid front axle, so that it's fwd-2wd with a live axle. (no open differential)

@SaladFingers_12 жыл бұрын
This is actually tempting even for the not handicapped. Pedaling it looks awkward, but downhill looks so much fun! The lower position if the rider, the third wheel, this could actually run better than a normal bike! It also looks like a great workout for your upper body. One question though: I saw some scenes where the rider was actually not sitting on the seat. Are all handicapped people able to do that? And if not, would that make it harder for them to ride as efficiently as him? Great project
@breakbeatfanatik11 жыл бұрын
My thoughts the same, but if you look closely you'll see hes able to steer whiles pedalling, 0:55, that pad hes fastening with I guess nylon string/rope pivots. meaning you steer with your belly/chest. OP, you my man, are a hero!

Yep...and people like that usually HAVE money...most of the disabled folks I know, DON'T. They aren't allowed to be disappointed in the price...some of their lives are filled with things they "can't do". Add the price and how restrictive that makes this bike, and they have another one. Maybe if they elect a socialist president, "everyone" will get a free one?

@robroberts147311 жыл бұрын

I would so love one of these it's the answer I've searched for . But like all equipment made for us who can't use our legs it comes with a price tag so huge one needs thousands of dollars to get one . Why is it the second your labeled disabled everything goes up 500% when a good portion of us simply can't come up with that kind of money ? Sad🤐😔

Well considering that us the wheelchair bound people or someone who has to used a wheelchair to get around are far less then the normal population who are healthy and have job aka Money can spend more, most people who become disable tend to have lesser income and in many cases no income at all. So there is not money for the inventors to see a profit from doing something nice. It's just the way things are, there is always the lottery, maybe fingers cross.

Can it be that the Velotrike has (at least) two construction faults? To the one the "seat position" is rather inexpedient for most wheel chair drivers and to the other are separated steering system (and the operating elements) from the impulse.

really cool idea, how does your design compare to the R-One Fourcross or AFF Raven as far as overall stability when corning hard? I think your design is very marketable because of your hand crank feature that no other 'downhill' styled handicapped bike has. When your pedaling, is there some kind of tension system that keeps the front wheels straight? It's a little hard to tell from the video. All things aside, its a sick design and i hope it does well! cheers
