Wow, you are the first mine explorer I know of to pull this off... You're a pioneer! I could never overcome the difficulty of moving with the 360 camera while exploring the mine and keeping everything properly lit, but you seem to have hit upon a solution by picking certain highlights and leaving the camera stationary in the center. That way, the viewers can explore the space themselves without you having to move around. Very well played... My congratulations to you.

“Gly”: Using that camera in conjunction with some sort of 360 degree lighting rig made out of PVC pipe would be perfect for lowering down shafts. I use a Zoom H1N for all my recording then match up the audio spikes during editing. It’s easy to do and sounds so much better than camera microphones.

I've been thinking of a way to send the 360 camera down a shaft. One big problem with it is the camera lens has no case which means no protection for the lens. I would have to house the camera in some sort of clear case of some kind. Then of coarse figure out the lighting.

MAIN LINE PROSPECTOR “Gly”: Or, maybe you could cage the camera in some way so that the cage acts as a buffer between objects and the camera. Kind of like how a wire goes around a light bulb to hold the lampshade. I think if only four 1/16” or 3/32” steel rods were brazed together to form a cage the rods themselves wouldn’t be to intrusive in view of the camera if painted black. Another aspect I’ve pondered regarding lowering cameras down shafts is keeping the camera from spinning as it lowered as well as implementing diffused lighting.

@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces THAT COULD WORK THANKS FOR THE IDEA. AS FAR AS THE CAMERA SPINNING I'VE ALREADY MADE A DEVICE OUT OF PVC AND ROPE TO KEEP THE CAMERA FROM SPINNING. I HAVE UPLOADED VIDEOS SHOWING THE CONTRAPTION I HAVE MADE, TO LOWER MY GOPRO DOWN THE MINE SHAFTS WITH OUT IT SPINNING. IT WON'T WORK FOR THE 360 CAMERA BECAUSE THERE IS NO PROTECTION FOR THE CAMERA. THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS IF YOU THINK OF ANYTHING MORE PLEASE LEAVE ME A COMMENT I'M ALWAYS OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS.

MAIN LINE PROSPECTOR “Gly”: I really liked the video you made with your aerial drone lowering to the shaft then cutting to the shaft cam footage. I think if you did the same with your 360 camera that would make for some really interesting video that nobody has seen before. I’ve watched all of your shaft cam videos and the one area I would make an improvement is with the lighting. When LED is focused in tight it often creates a bright globe of light effect when it gets close to objects. That’s why I would suggest a light source that is more diffused such as what would be used in professional photography. Here is a light that I’ve been looking into for my next handheld rig: lumecube.com/ Three or four of these in a cloverleaf configuration might be perfect for a 360 setup.

@@mainlineprospector3813 yea I figured lighting would be the biggest challenge in a big stope. But none the less very cool view with the 360

If you have a separate mike, then all you need to do is add a audio-visual matcher at the start, then you don't need to bother with inboard audio (more recording time, theoretically if you shut the audio in settings). Something like hitting two rocks together.

I DO HAVE AN EXTERNAL MIKE, BUT IF I CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE AUDIO ON THE CAMERA I WILL USE THE MIKE. THANKS FOR THE COMMENT.
