Grew up in Highland Park. Oldest Brother began HPHS in 1956, next 1958, me 1960 and younger in 1962. All graduated; Left Highland Park in 1971 after the riots burned down the family home. Would go back over the years. But life goes on for most. Many happy days and some sad days. Life back then was different. And things changed quickly. Remember Woodward Ave and Ted's and Big Teds. All of us owned cars and motocycles. 50 Ford, 57 Ford, 57 Chevy, 61 Pontiac, 64 GTo, 65 GTO, 67 Olds 442, 67 Corvette; 68 Camero, 70 Roadrunner, 650 Bonneville, 900 Harley, etc... Cars, cars, cars...

Thank you for that personal story! It’s very sad what has happened to the area and just knowing this was once a thriving area.

I was born in Highland Park, mostly remember living on Geneva near 6 1/2 and Woodward. Left in 1970, for the same reasons, I was 10.

There was a fire there in the late 60's I believe, my Dad responded as a firefighter, and my grandfather was a janitor there. My grandfather went back in because he thought there were students at the pool. He made it out, but his health was always poor after that.

My Uncle said the pool was on the 3rd floor. That doesn't seem like it would be correct. Do you know where the pool was located?

This is sad seeing this college in this state. It had one of the best Nursing programs and this were I obtained my Surigical technologist diploma and associates degree in 1994.

That auditorium is practically mint, just give it a good sweep and dust and it would be a great place for puppet shows.

Hopefully someone will do something with the property before it’s too long gone.

How bad was it?

@@exploretheabandoned completely fucked. Steel roof beams melted, and when we went, we saw a note on the car saying we would get shot if he saw us
