The old town houses with the pulley/winch system on the upper floor and stone stairs in front are merchant houses that would have belonged to specific merchant families. The headstones bear the family symbol or coat of arms. The goods the merchant traded in would be stored on the upper floor in order to protect them from moisture and theft.

Thanks again for a nice video. I almost felt that I was walking with you. I've been there countless times and still that lovely old town has something new to offer. I never get bored on walking there. Did you know that Helsinki exists because of Tallinn? Tallinn was a 400 year old successful Hanseatic city, and Swedish king Gustav Vasa wanted to have a competitor to it in the Swedish empire where Finland belonged at that time. So he founded Helsinki to the opposite shore of the Gulf of Finland in 1550.

Well done & nice video ! One of the things - English speakers miss whine travelling in Europe is that You miss all the languages that are spoken at Tallinn ! Locals speak Estonian or Russian - Finns speak Finnish or Swedish - and every country has their own language ! Many People dont understand each other at any level - thanks to all these different languages ! Europeans do know - what language - but other than that it - everday struggle !
