It was Richs and Davidson, Davidson purchased Richs and now it's Macy's But they were all owned by the same Corporation that went through some changes

Rich's was owned by the Rich family. They lived in Buckhead. After old man Rich died, the family sold the stores and name to Federated. I remember hating that change, because the family run stores far surpassed the corporate run stores, especially in customer service.

I was a department manager for Davidson's (which very quickly became Macy's) in 1985-6. It was beautiful for its time, and I have great memories of being in this place.

Why is this happening now? Who is the responsible for this situation? The Georgia governor? The Duluth Mayor? The Gwinnett County Council?

Rich's was part of Federated Department Stores, which eventually merged with Macy's. Davidson's was part of Macy's back in the day. The Rich's nameplate was abandoned by Macy's in the early 00's. I lived in the area in 1998-2005 and remember shopping there. I also remember when The Mall of Georgia and Discover Mills (now Sugarloaf Mills) opened. 9:59 Sears always had a Garden Center with that fencing and gates. I was back in the area in late 2022 and was surprised to find there were 3 stores open. The whole area has changed dramatically demographically since the other malls opened in the area. Surprisingly, though, the area around the mall still thrives. JUST the mall was abandoned, not the area around it.

The gated part to Sears was where they would keep lawn equipment.

From what i understood that macys actually was getting decent business, but ya usually macys dip out in the early stages of a dying mall. I did some urban exploring there and a week later the mall was boarded down. I went there a few times in the mid 00s and the mall was still kinda busy. By 2011ish it was never coming back. Nice vid!

GA Peach. This mall was the place to be. People do flock to the newer malls. SUGARLoaf which started as Discover Mill also struggled but seems to be coming back to life.

Imo online shopping will kill most malls… and social media since people don’t much believe in hanging out anymore

Check out, Lake forest Mall in New Orleans East in New Orleans Louisiana. It was closed for years before hurricane katrina. It was badly damaging after katrina. I was born in New Orleans Louisiana in 1967 moved to Chicago Illinois as a child when I was four years old in 1971 my little sister was born in chicago illinois at Englewood hospital in Cook county in 1972. Came back to New Orleans Louisiana in 1976 because my uncle was killed by the Klu Klux Klans. One year back to New Orleans Louisiana we heard of a new subdivision that was built when we were in chicago illinois. In New Orleans East it use to be swamp area and lots of native American Indian skeletons and pottery were found in that area building the New Orleans East suburbs. I first came to lake forest Mall back in 1977 and lived there in 1978. Had my 10 years old birthday there the year before I had my birthday at mcdonald's. Well anyway the lake forest Mall is like a very huge City. Much like this mall you're showing in Georgia It was in the hands of many people. But in the late 70's and early 80's it was full wall to wall with people. The late 90's it died and was closed for years. Than hurricane Katrina hit. It gotten badly damaging. I don't know if the Lake forest Mall is still standing or not. That's a Mall you should check out. After Hurricane Katrina badly damaged my two houses in New Orleans Louisiana I'm now living in ArKKKansas unfortunately. There's a mall here you should check out it's a smaller mall but still big. It's like the mall you're showed in Georgia and it still have a very few businesses in it but the Mall part is closed. It's in the pleasant valley area of Little Rock is where the million dollar homes and golf course are. Lots of restaurants and eateries in the area. In the lake forest Mall JC Penny's was replaced or was it Sears was replaced with a department store called, Hudson's.

The store you passed while talking about the crime was Parisian, which was later Belk. Sears had an automotive department. The part of Macy's near the mall is so dark. Sad to see all these abandoned buildings and memories.

As sad as it is that these malls have failed and become abandoned, they do make for interesting videos. Also as a side note I remember losing my wallet in that mall back in the day when I was stationed in GA.

A coworker of mine went to the Food Court at this mall and when he came out, he car was no longer where he thought it was. He went back inside and finally got the police and filed a report. A couple of days later the police contacted him and said that they found his car. The problem was, he went in one side of the mall and exited out another without realizing. His car was left where he originally parked it.
