Thank-you for posting this Rob...My Great Uncle Karl Lust, from Sweden, made his living in Jackfish Ontario. He made his living as a Trapper, hunter and fisherman. Not certain where he died. In the 1940,s he took a Doctor from Minnesota on a fishing trip. The fishing expedition was in Field and Stream. Sadly, the magazine article has been lost. Did you find any newspapers or papers with people,s names appearing?
@RobFarrowATV7 жыл бұрын
Your Welcome! Some pretty cool history there, thanks for the bit of info! No, didn't see any papers, sorry! Thanks for watching Lynne!

Nice video. I'm planning to paddle there from Thunder Bay this summer and spend a couple days checking out the area.

Yeah, I actually paddled right past Jackfish 14 years ago and did not even know about the place. Went right by when canoeing the Lake Superior section of what was a 6 month, 6000 km solo canoe trip.

Thanks for the posting, always great to hear about and see these forgotten places. I'm interested in Ontario fire station histories and you mentioned fire in the community a few times. Was this community finally destroyed by fire and do you know if they ever had a fire brigade?
@RobFarrowATV Жыл бұрын
Thanks Man! I have no idea if they had an actual fire brigade back then. More than likely it was made up of volunteers as it was a small community. When the first Diesel driven Locomotive drove by, the town pretty much was finished and it was finally abandoned. A few building were eventually used as cottages on the the lake but a forest fire eventually destroyed most of it. What you see here is what remains. It's still a very interesting place.

Very cool, I could spend some time in that cabin on the lake! It's a little creepy around there! Did you see the newest Lone Ranger, watch out for those rabbits, they could turn on you like they did in that movie, lol! Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing!
@RobFarrowATV8 жыл бұрын
Oh no, first the turtles, now the rabbits...what's nature coming to! LOL! Run a way! (Movie trivia) It's nice but a little chilly along the north shore of Superior! Thanks for watching Misty!

Very interesting! What was that first car with the rear suicide doors? The old water tower base looked cool; like something out of a "Planet of the Apes" movie - lol. I love how they used a steel main beam under the main floor back then for support, which we are now using again. Although, I noticed they were using T-beams (7:13) & nowadays they use I-beams. Awesome video Rob! Thanx for sharin'!

How can I buy abandoned towns like this in Ontario or abandoned properties in towns like this?
@RobFarrowATV4 жыл бұрын
Have no idea, seems that people just claim the old buildings at some time or bought them from the township, not sure but a few of the old houses became cottages.
@dwaynejohnson62774 ай бұрын
Find the property you want, look on the ontario crown land atlas to confirm it is currently private property, then contact the township. Someone is paying the property taxes.

@organreeman43763 жыл бұрын
This was once a very vibrant little town. The only thing that makes it "Spooky" is the music you chose to attach to the scenery. "Spooky" is way overdone for Urbex videos, try some historic music instead, touches the heart, mind and soul more powerfully. Historic music also reminds us of the people who used to live in these wonderful little places. Some famous Canadian artists also made their way through this area and painted some amazing scenes long ago. Take a different Urbex tact. Focus on the history not the "Spooky".
@RobFarrowATV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was once a very bustling port on Lake Superior, lots of history there.
