I remember the Enchantress well. Saw her many times during the World’s Fair and at UT games in the 80’s. She was always an interesting boat. Sorry to see how she ended up.

Entrantris is a cool old boat . Probably a very thick hull worth saving . But the cost of engines and drives puts a refit over most people's budget . Thanks for taking us along . Just found you as a suggested video

Just found a CG report. The boat sank at it's moorings in on Oct. 9th 2018 when the water tank burst while filling overnight and filled the rest of the boat, which caused it to sink. The owner then stated he was going to give it away for personal use. Also on the CG page, they list a bunch of mechanical issues during the last inspection. That thing was falling apart for years before it went out of service.
@alan6832 Жыл бұрын
As usual, engines and engine control cables are the main things preventing salvage, not pumping out water. Also, over time, add wood rot and obtaining legal ownership. Even if the owner was willing to give it away at the time, there is no reason to think the owner or heirs can be found and convinced to cooperate now. And governments want to see these boats in the landfill, not salvaged, partly influenced by the new boat lobby, so they aren't helpful either, though TN is not the worst in that regard. Usually the cheapest way to get such boats going again is to mount outboards, but remote control remains difficult, as well as legals being the biggest barrier in most states. Certainly in FL, legal salvage is rarely worthwhile.

That truly is an amazing find!! You could probably salvage the instrument panel but that (first) boat is just beyond repair. I just found your channel. It's fascinating!! I was at that world's fair with my family. We were there for 10 days and we still didn't see everything.

I captained this boat for the then owner Oscar Wise from Knoxville Tn in the very late 1980's out of a charter center in St Pete Bch, Fl. He ended up owing me over $10,000. and left in the middle on the night with promises to pay me. Never saw a dime.

You can always file a claim against the estate of Oscar Wise. You may not get paid till after Oscar dies, but at least you will have something to look forward to. If Oscar Wise is already dead, you won't be able to file a claim against his estate. 🤠

Look at all the stainless steel that's $$$ if that was Florida it would be gone. The last registered owner is responsible for removing it but, the city end up paying for it. Salvage pirates would have fun.

I got a kick out of seeing the big old tour boat. But it’s time is done and it needs to go away. Not just sit moldering away on a riverbank and just being an eyesore. Vessels and boats like this one litter our waterways all over the nation. One of the reasons these get ‘abandoned’ like this is it costs serious money to dispose of them, let alone saving and refurbishing them. To clean up those two boats requires the use of some expensive equipment and labor. Plus they must be decontaminated in that hazardous materials must be removed and properly disposed of. And after all of that, those boats must be broken up and carted away to a land fill and what little recoverable materials (primarily the metal fittings and furnishings) salvaged and taken to a place for recycling. Right now large fiberglass boats decks and hulls have virtually no salvage value and it becomes a very big expense to break or grind them up, then you have to pay a bunch of additional money to dump the remains in a land fill. That is why these don’t get cleaned up. And on top of that are the legal issues of ownership and who gets stuck with the bill during and afterwards. I suspect in most cases funding comes from general tax dollar funding, which is almost never available and grants, which occasionally are available. Currently not a win win situation.

Unfortunately this girl is done for. Every single piece of wood would have to be replaced. Water is extremely damaging and there is just nothing salvageable here. Mold has taken hold too. It's a shame people can't be responsible and sell off or dispose of things properly. Especially something with such history.

@K.J.Ray421 Жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking, at least from a salvage standpoint. I wonder just how bad the shell would be if you stripped out the inside and got rid of all the rotten wood. No matter what though, even for example, a married couple with enough cash to fix it. The boat is so large that it needs 2 good size V8's or 2 small diesel engines that the fuel would be too expensive to run it as a personal yacht.
