It was recently brought to my attention of this video posted some 4 yrs ago without contacting anyone for permission to do so. 55,495 views is alarming! The doors have always been locked and the feelings of the board of directors that oversee the care of this church are very disappointed by these individuals. It's obvious that this is NOT ABANDONED as the grounds are well groomed, power is on, and as they say, it is in beautiful condition. Going through so many items in detail is just plain trespassing. I might add, there was a theft involved a few months after this was posted. Law enforcement has been notified in regards to this activity. We welcome visitors but not by going about it in this manner. It is easy to contact someone local to tour this beautiful, historic and sacred site.

That the electric is still on and the place is being kept clean ( looks like no dust anywhere aside from the flies in the windowsills in back of the pulpit) I’d say this place is not abandoned in the way we think of abandoned. Somebody is lovingly caring for this place even if it’s not currently being used which is very sad. Such a gem and I’m so glad I got to see its amazing beauty.

This is both lovely and sad. I’m from a Mennonite family. Dad’s family were KS farmers and their little Mennonite church was much like this one: small, simple, in the middle of nowhere. However, they’re more similar to the Amish in that their church had nothing fancy or decorative about it, so no stained glass or fancy altar. But otherwise, this could be any one of the churches I attended growing up. I’m only in my mid-40’s, so it’s disconcerting to see a church like this abandoned, left to KZbin explorers who consider it “cool” and “vintage”, as if from centuries ago. There’s something deeply sad to see this part of American culture and heritage abandoned. But it is a lovely little church. Just beautiful.

What an undisturbed gem! The windows are indeed magnificent for the warm atmosphere they create in the room and the twirly design is a neat touch too. I wonder if it may cast a pattern of light on surfaces under the right circumstances... Also great to see the bell and the answer as to why there are two ropes: One for the hammer and one to swing the bell. 🔔 Its a shame your films do not reach a much bigger audience, you do these places justice the way you portray them!

Reverend J. D. Bothne was a Lutheran pastor active in the late 19th century, particularly in North Dakota. He succeeded Reverend Nils Forde, a notable missionary among the Lutherans of the Sheyenne Valley. On February 22, 1883, Reverend Bothne presided over the organization of the East Prairie congregation, which later became the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in a schoolhouse southwest of Fingal, North Dakota. Under his leadership, Haakon Nilson donated two acres of land for a church site and graveyard. The congregation resolved to build a church building in 1895, with the cornerstone laid on October 19, 1896. Reverend Bothne's contributions were instrumental in establishing and nurturing Lutheran congregations in the Sheyenne Valley during that era.

The Norwegians were mostly Lutheran. They settled primarily in the Dakotas and Montana. They came here to own and till their own farm, using the US Homestead Act. They never wanted to be slave owners. They carved a life out of the raw prarie. The church is probably Missouri Synod. The stricter branch of Lutheranism. Go there and the people still have their own accent. Hardworking loyal Americans. We are lucky to have them.

13:10 I can answer that ! One of the ropes is for swinging the bell back and forth via a wheel, as you'd most commonly expect to hear, and that wheel doesn't look to be in good condition there. The other rope controls the large hammer you saw, this is for more solemn events such as funerals when slower tolling is expected. The bell is indeed written in Danish but is definitely made by the Meneely Foundry of West Troy NY - that's the font they used, moulding bands, bell profile (shape), headstock and frame. Perhaps the congregation were of Danish Lutheran descent? It sounds to be in the note G# and therefore would be around 1500lbs by modern standards. edit just saw that it shows you this.. someone else said it could be from Denmark so wanted to confirm

My beautiful tone will bring your heart message from the castle of heaven. The congregation that gathers on the Lord and his word. It could still be used for special events, funerals, weddings, baptisms etc... it was too clean to be abandoned, especially the pews &, the alter, otherwise it wouldn't of been covered up & alot of the historical papers wouldn't of just been sitting around. They most likely came by horse and buggy when it was first built, because automobiles were still being developed. Also, when this church was built the telephone had just recently been patented (1876), and it would be another 21 years before the radio would be patented (1897). In isolated communities people crave human interaction, especially with fellow Christians...I'm sure it was well worth the effort for them.

This church is still being used and is not abandoned like they make it out to be. The flies are a result of having an exterminator come twice a year for insects. Apologize for not having them cleaned up for these two trespassers. Very disappointed in their not at least getting permission from someone. There is a neighbor 1/2 mile away. It is not as isolated as they make it out to be. I am on a committee that oversees it and the cemetary since it was closed.

It is not so much a lack of faith it is that nobody lives out there anymore. USDA policy since the 1970s when Nixon's ag secretary Earl Butz who told American farmers to "get big or get out" while simultaneously gutting FDR's New Deal Ag programs that were designed to keep farm families on the land has emptied out the Midwest. Most of the descendants of the farm families who built this country church in the 1870s probably no longer live in the area, they live in Minneapolis, Chicago or in cities and suburbs on the East Coast or West Coast. Farming didn't pay enough to earn a living anymore so the kids left home and found work elsewhere. The old folks died and their small family farms got bought/leased by a big time corporate farmer who is working thousands of acres. Pretty soon the congregation dwindled to a handful of people and there was not enough money in the plate on Sunday to pay a preacher. Someone is obviously paying the light bill and doing some maintenance and upkeep on the building. Probably an elderly person or a few people old who have fond memories of growing up in that church. Sadly, when they get too old to do the maintenance, or pass on it will probably fall into ruins.
@museluvr
@museluvr 2 жыл бұрын
I wonder how many people living in the area drive by and think of God... or attended when younger? Where do they attend now. I also wonder if someone, probably older does not come and care for it until they pass on to God? Saddens my heart.

@mogens1003 slight chance of being Dane. Could not read entire script completely. It's not Swede, as the wording indicates. But regardless of country, they are all the same noble family. I do need to express my disgust with the purveyors of this video. They basically entered a church, uninvited. That's bad. Just because the door happened to be unlocked, never meant that they were free to enter. If the main doors were unlocked, then that means the church is free to enter. Period. Very disrespectful to sneek in through a side door.

The area behind the platform could be used for chior robes, music, preachers robe, if he used one. No Bapistry? No dust?

Would "Mickey Nixon Films" welcome this kind of activity on their property??? Who are they? Where are they from?

I wonder why it was built in the middle of nowhere. Not many parishioners. Beautiful church still. 😊

That is not a abandoned church. The grass is mowed. The graveyard is mowed. Those pines are planted as a wind break. Why dont you contact the church organization and ask to be let in to tour the building. It looks like you are breaking in to vandalize the place. Being that the door was unlocked means that someone is still caring for the church. Get out and go ask permission to tour the church instead of rummaging and doing damage.

Damn Dude! At 24:50 some of those flies are STILL MOVING!! Something or someone must have died in there not too long ago. Are these the flies that hatched from the maggots?? I bet the place is haunted at night!

I think the room with the old equipment was once the priest's vestry ( Dressing room ), the long mirror on the wall is a clue - Also note how the other door leads directly onto the altar at the head of the church.

Small elderly congregation does not mean abandonment or the power would not be on. We have deeded our small church over to Church of God (Anderson) to assure things are handled properly If time necessitates. I wish these explorers had entered to pray in a serene place.
