There are a number of old mines in that area, some are mapped and some are not. The closure over the entrance was put in by state and federal authorities I think either the 1970's up unto the 1990's. It was to keep people from getting injured of killed. There is gold and silver in these mountains and with a bit of panning in the creeks you can find placer gold. You are up from above Soledad Canyon. A little more to the south and west is Placerita Canyon so named for the Placer Gold found there.

Bear Canyon Mine. Copper then gold until the 1950s. Sadly it's guarded now but you can probably find a way around.

This one's further North near Acton. But I did see the guard shack you're talking about when driving by a while ago. Any idea what's going on there?

We have been there a few years ago. It does not seem like it changed at all.

It's an interesting place that few people know of. Hopefully it stays unchanged for a long time.

Did you ever find a name for this mine? You said near Acton but Id love to see it in person. Thanks for posting videos!

The name of this mine is still a mystery to me. It's in a branch of Arrastra Canyon, North of Mt Gleason.

looks exactly like Bear Canyon mine which was mined for copper in the 1800s then mined for gold until the 1950. It goes about 200' feet in.
