2:35 No worries on the squad car. I can almost guarantee the officer was just heading back to his speed trap post along Route 83, north of this place.

Great video here..... grew up going to this old Waterpark from 85 til it closed......so many memories ..... the road rash comments on here are very accurate man that is what i remember most!!.... sunburn, scrapes and bruises but great times ... my first kiss was at the bottom of the big wide slide you discover here..... her and i slid down together side by side man i can close my eyes and still remember the breeze in the air ... the song "head to toe" from lisa lisa and the cult jam always takes me back to this moment..... people would lay out and sunbathe on the rough concrete areas.... one of the tube slides actually went underground and spit you out into a pool lagoon that was about 6 ft deep..... got stuck inside there one time and im a still a little traumatized .... it was probably only for a few seconds but it seemed like forever i clawed and paddled my way down cuz my mat flew out from under me..... my mom was waiting at the bottom ready to take a picture of me gettin shot out of the tube into the pool instead just my blue mat came flying out ... she thought it was hysterical..... when i finally escaped out of that thing and swam over to her she was like "i didnt get to take the picture you gotta go up and slide again"... i was like no way i almost died in there

Even that billboard is mostly overgrown now (fall 2023). I still remember an ad it once displayed in the mid-90s for the long gone chain Sportmart: "Almost as radical as an NBA player in a wedding dress!" (reference to Dennis Rodman)

I grew up with this place; Started going there when the Big slide was the only one, and it was concrete, so you rode down on heavy foam mats; if you fell off you'd get some road rash. eventually, one year they added the other slides, and lined the old slides in foam and added bumps to make it like rapids; you then rode down it on inner tubes, decent upgrade, but not as fast after that. the tubes had a horizontal loop, and were partially underground, so them being buried that way isn't a new thing. they were also lined with foam. They were poorly designed; sometimes you would stop midway through the loop, and would need to push yourself a few times to get moving again; didn't quite have enough water flowing in those I guess.I went there through most of the 1980's, all the way until, for some unknown reason, it closed. nobody knows for sure why it shut down. MTV even did a live feed from it once! Many good memories of that place. Thanks for the tour down memory lane, guys!

I went a couple of times in the early 80’s. This is back when water slides weren’t common. They were very wide and I recall just sitting on those mats swishing from side to side until you reached the bottom! The walk up the hill seemed longer than the ride down. I’m glad to have experienced that place. I even have pictures somewhere.

Not sure either why they closed, but I assume since they were open for exactly 10 seasons it was probably just a non-renewal of the lease.

Thank you for sharing this!! I remember the two slides and mats riding down. I do not remember all the other slides. It was basically two twin slides and a bridge over the slides, then up a hill to ride them again

I grew up in Villa Park, and remember driving past this place on route 83 back in the 80s when it was up and running and you could see the kids sliding down. Then I graduated high school in 1996 and me and my buddy explored this place around that year.. it was closed by then and already was overgrown and trashed BUT there was a main building next to the parking lot (by the public storage place) that had the concession stand, changing rooms with lockers, picnic tables. The slides had foam liners in them to cushion you from the concrete but they were in rough shape. So the crazy part is, at the entrance to the park, down at the frontage road that starts at Walmart, right as there’s the hill that goes up to water park parking lot, there was a metal shed. Inside the shed a homeless dude must’ve been living there. There was a bed and clothes, a TV, and an extension cord that ran to this water tank pump thing. It was creepy as hell.

Use to go here in my late teens and twenties. My buddies and I ripped the foam out of the large concrete water slide and skateboarded there half the summer... Super dope spot to skate... Very challenging.

This is great! I went here once as a middle schooler. It was an interesting experience and I don’t think I ever went in a tunnel water slide again after getting stuck (I was not overweight, there wasn’t enough water flowing through) and having my bathing suit ripped to shreds (fortunately had a large t-shirt to wear that day). I just watched the documentary on the water park that closed in NJ (which made me look this one up) and I have a feeling this was closed for similar reasons. Thanks for posting this, very interesting to see what it looks like now. You did a great job with the video!

Oh my goodness, that sounds terrifying! The last (only?) time I went in those tube slides, they smelled so bad - probably a mix of mold and Salt Creek smell. They felt slimy and dirty, and the ride could not be over fast enough for my liking. How did you get out? To this day, I don't care for tube waterslides, unless it is a very wide tube. Thinking about my childhood experience with this tube slide, it all makes sense now.

Hey guys I actually rode those water slides. The water park was kinda attached to the Castle of Toys. You used to get in the parking lot over off Roosevelt and Spring there might be a better way to get in than off 83. I just really remember it cuz of the Castle of Toys. Forgot all about that place for many years. Back then we also had Old Chicago in Bollingbrook that was an indoor amusement park. Santas village up in Dundee. I think none of them could compete once Great America opened. Be Safe!!!!

Great video. Creepy and ruins now but I was there in the early 80’s when it was just those two big blue wide slides. You brought up how weird it was to be there knowing it was once a place filled with people. Fir me it’s the opposite. I remember it as a water park. Seeing it like this is crazy. Water parks have improved since then but it was a lot of fun. The climb to the top was long. Lol.

Nicely done, lads. Guests used a foam pad to slide down the slides. There were many stories of broken arms, and I'm sure their liability insurance was outrageously expensive.

The slides they walk on at 7:50 were the two bad ass slides. Would go down en-mass with your friends knocking each other around. Water parks don't allow that anymore. You used to pay for time to ride and they gave you a color coded wristband, usually at least an hour and you could ride the slides as many times as you wanted in that time period.

I can not believe still nobody has done a thing about that abandoned water park! No attempts at rebuilding it and getting it back in business. I rode past that hill in August 2021 while I was in town visiting, and saw nothing --- no construction cranes, no tree trimmer equipment, no bucket trucks, no evidence of cut-down trees, nothing. I was up there in July 2009 and was appalled at that place's condition. Entire hill like an overgrown jungle, weeds that were 5 feet tall, one of the big slides filled almost to it's rim with dirt. Took video of it and it's on KZbin. And building a water park on a hill is easily much cheaper than building one on flat ground; you have the hill to support the water slides, so you wouldn't need those expensive towering pylons, plus maintenance of water slides supported mainly by the high ground itself would be easy and cheap. And DuPage County, Illinois has some of the highest rents of land (property taxes) in the nation, and being one of the most expensive places to live in the country, I would think those people have easily more than enough money to rebuild and reopen that place.

Rumor has it that the park was closed down due to water filtration issues, along with the zoning board deeming that because the park was located atop a landfill it was originally an oversight. That's what I recall from the time.

I would absolutely believe this. The last time I was there, even as a child, I was disgusted by the smell of the underground tube slides. At the time, i thought it was a mold smell, but it was probably mold smell mixed with Salt Creek smell. I knew I would never go on the tube slide again, but then the water park closed not too long after that.
