I feel like I have been waiting forever to watch this episode 😅. Totally, you guys deserve a nice break on that Island. We haven't thoroughly explored Arnhem Land so definitely a good excuse to come back. Love this episode, I'm gonna watch it at least a couple more times ❤

Are you getting to Port Esslington? Well worth it. Its history is amazing and how important it was for the early colony. We were there in 2005, but to be the honest the new permitting arrangements sound like a complete rort. - Access permit - Transit/Road permit - Camping permit - Fishing permit - Recreation permit

Port Essington is a great spot, for its history, Indigenous culture and fishing. It is run by Northern Territory National Parks as far as I am aware. East Arnhem Land always had an Aboriginal Land access permit run through the NLC and then from the early 2000s onwards a camping permits were issued by Dhimurru for camping through the region. I think there are also fishing permits for Aboriginal waters around Arnhem Land (I may be wrong on this). The money from these permits seems to me to be inline with other private owned land through northern Australia. At least these days the permit process is through a web site, which is an improvement on the letters we had to write in the 1980s and early 1990s.
