The ministry of defence announced a little while ago that all block 4 tomahawks will be ungraded to block 5 standard, even the US along with most of military powers have said the astute class subs are probably the best attack subs in service atm & sets the standard

This makes me so proud to be English 🏴 . Great Britain ruled the seven seas like no other nation has . Wars won’t be fought on the front as before . They will be fought with intelligence . And that’s another thing we Brits are especially good at , knowing other nations business . Let’s no forget we’re the only nation to have great in their name . 🇬🇧

Unfortunately wars are fought on fronts still. The UK is outmatched as a military. The problem with the UK is just manpower and resources, so many cuts from PMs over the years have meant that the UK military has been gutted. However, the UK does have: - trident - sas - sbs - advanced weapons research capabilities - military satellites like skynet - storm shadows - a hand in eurofighter typhoon and the upcoming tempest - a really friendly relationship with the US - 2 aircraft carriers (which is the most any country has apart from the US' 14) Military wise the UK is a great asset to have because of their veto power in UN and nuclear capabilities, but they're pretty much a specialist support country that can provide smaller but incredibly effective assets rather than a country that can operate effectively in an all out war.

I dont know why Australia doesn't just get the UK to build it Astute class instead of a whole new design. Aussie labour could help so they learn the build and maintenance, we would be a decade in front of planned ANKUS class and the UK would keep building boats.
@dinger402 ай бұрын
The lead time on on major components is long, 15 to 20+ years. The factories that made the bits have been demolished and new ones built to provide bits for Dreadnaught and AUKUS. This is why there was a long gap between Triumph and Astute, the factory making parts for PWR 1 was standing about for too long with no orders. The Canadians were to have ordered several T Class early 80's, but the Americans put the kybosh on it (the reactor was of a US design improved by RR)

Its so predictable that Americans play down this submarine. One thing that should be remembered is the only nuclear submarine to sink a war ship in war situation was the British HMS conqueror.
@williamjpellas03144 ай бұрын
Unfortunately there are only seven (7) of these "boats", so they will be stretched thin, just like the rest of the Royal Navy. Even one additional Astute class submarine would have made a noticeable difference, though in a perfect world I think the RN should really have no fewer than ten (10) SSGN's. Another option would be to cap the successor SSN/AUKUS boats at 8 units while adding, say, six (6) first rate diesel-electric or AIP submarines. These could be used for home waters, GIUK, and Mediterranean duties, thereby freeing up the nuclear subs for global power projection missions.

This is incorrect. The Vanguard-class subs were doing experimental tests, the details are murky because it's classified, they were not standard. That has nothing to do with this sub.

@@dt6653 wrong!!! Get your facts right or atleast try to make comments about the correct subs as that was the vanguard subs launching prototype trident ballistic missiles with dummy warheads conducting trials

@samhawkes659711 күн бұрын
Thats wasnt these. These are the state of the art hunter subs designed to blow up other ships/subs and are arguably the best attack subs available across all of Nato (including America). The failed tests happened on the older vanguard nuclear ballistic missile subs, and to be exact, it was the American made trident missiles that failed, not the sub itself. So we have America to thank for those failed tests.
