Personally I think the main thing that keeps people away from places like this is something we can do nothing about. When you look at the past two summers we've just experienced (mostly freezing cold, and either overcast or raining) it does tend to put people off staying here even with the advantages of being in the UK. Personally I'd rather spend £2000 if I was in a resort in Spain with almost guaranteed sunshine, rather than £1000 to be stuck indoors under a layer of blankets looking out onto a grey seafront and grey skies.

So, I live in Littlehampton, and I do have a few observations. Firstly the road Google maps took you down a road that basically the alleyway behind all the houses hence not looking so good. At least you made it to the new river bank which was built as a flood defence, and a very nice job they made of it IMHO. Shame you didn't show the beach which is decent and enjoyed by many tourists in the summer. Harbour Park amusement park is open at weekends for the next two weeks, although the arcade is open all year round barring Christmas. Of course in the summer it's open seven days a week. As for the rubbish, I'm pretty sure this is due to the seagull problem, who just love to rip open black bin bags to scavenge, and that sort of rubbish spread is typical of the aftermath. On the whole though, nice to see our little town getting a highlight. Fun fact, Littlehampton doubled for Swanage in one episode of the Inbetweeners, with filming done on the river and on the promenade.

Littlehampton was nice, from what I read online it was "the worst town in Sussex" but everyone there was super friendly. It was a nice place overall. Glad you took the video as intended :)

In your opinion, what needs to be done? As an American who lived in Blackpool (strange, I know lol), I don't think there is any solution to the states of these towns. They are the equivalent of our rust belt. If Britain were still an empire, at least the wealth would be distributed to the country as a whole, but in its current globalized EU-style economy, (where wealth is centralized in the capital), there is no solution but to leave.

In the 1st place how did Britain build its wealth? Globalisation has proven that wealth does not have to be centralised in the so called Wealthy Nations. Also are people leaning because there is wealth elsewhere?

Lack of tourism is definitely a factor in seaside decline. But, also, the demographic of many Sussex seaside towns has been dramatically altered over the decades with London boroughs guilty of having used them as convenient dumping grounds for problem families. Towns like Hastings, Eastbourne, Newhaven, Worthing, Litttlehampton, Bognor etc have all had that treatment…

Brilliant content bruv. This highlights the decline of small towns. Brexit is also a factor because some Europeans who would most likely vist such towns do not get incentives ~ Incentivized tourism. The decline is alo attributed to the local authorities interests not to see the need to attract tourists. Urban decline or rural decline?
