I was born and raised in Brooklyn. Lost my job and ran through my savings in six months (took me that long to get another job). So I stayed with my father who bought a house in Riverdale about 20 years prior. I was really missing BK and wasn't trying to warm up to Riverdale. My father has since sold his house and moved on but I'm still here in Riverdale. 10 years and one daughter later I'm still here and I love it. You actually walked passed the block I currently live on. Huxley Ave.

Shout out to all my New Yorkers, Boricuas and Dominicans. I lived in NYC for over 30 years. Moving around… starting in the South Bronx and ending in Riverdale. I can’t say I missed it… I do however respect my roots and resilient New Yorkers. I did enjoyed living in Riverdale. My favorite spot was Van Cortlandt Park, I ran and hiked all 14 miles of trails with my dogs. I moved to the beautiful island of Hawaii 2 years ago. Love it here 🤙🌈

Wow, this really took me back, thank you! Growing up in Riverdale in the 1980s was such a unique experience. Watching your video brought back so many memories, you even walked past my childhood building. Riverdale didn’t feel like the rest of the city. My school, PS 24, was filled with kids from all over the world, many of them children of UN diplomats. Looking back, it must have been well-funded-hard to imagine now, but we even had a planetarium. The diversity was incredible. I had classmates from Egypt, Japan, Korea, China, Italy, Germany, Vietnam, Australia, etc., and even Iraq. I distinctly remember one friend from there. Our field trips were awesome too. Statute of Liberty, real Broadway plays, and other iconic NYC stuff. Back then, nobody cared where you were from. What really mattered was how good you were at basketball or baseball. That was the only thing anyone judged you on. No social media or internet so all we did was ride our bikes and ball. One of my favorite memories was being able to leave campus for lunch during junior high at 144. Johnson Avenue had so many options, but I usually ended up at my dad’s pizza place, Pizzazz. He sold a slice and a fruit punch for a dollar, and when he opened in the late ’80s, there were lines down the block during lunch. Pizzazz was the first spot on the avenue to serve not just regular pizza but pop decided to sell gourmet pies and garlic knots. It was such a fun time to be a kid. The restaurant community on the avenue was close-knit, too. If my dad needed salt or another restaurant needed napkins, they’d help each other out. It felt innocent back then, we didn’t worry about the kind of things people do now. Riverdale will always hold a special place in my heart. It was close to Manhattan but had its own vibe, and everyone seemed to know each other. I feel lucky to have grown up there. We moved before I could go to high-school, but those years in Riverdale were unforgettable.

You got balls to be walking in a community where you’re not from. You’re lucky you are not in the South, NJ, Connecticut, or Long Island. I wouldn’t step a foot in an area where I do not belong unless I knew someone from the neighborhood. Today, there’s a police car patrolling asking questions whether your from there or not; if you say, No i am not from here the Police says, then u have to go. Try returning on a day the Police car is patrolling. You were very lucky on the day u went. You would’ve been asked if you were in the South.

@beauty4717 well, its NYC, people don't care what others do as long as I'm not doing anything wrong, police wouldn't stop me and if they did, I would be respectful and tell them I'm making a walking tour video of the neighborhood, they can't deny me from doing that since it's a first amendment protected by the constitution.
