That tiny church in Baska is actually very important for Croatia as one of the first written documents of croatian language,name and alphabet glagoljica wich was later ruled out by latin.Transcription goes like: I, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, I, abbot Držiha, wrote this, concerning the land which Zvonimir, the Croatian king, gave in,in his days, to St. Lucia. And the witnesses were county prefect Desimir in Krbava, Martin in Lika, Pribineg in Vinodol and Jakov on island. Whoever denies this, let him be cursed by God and the twelve apostles and the four evangelists and Saint Lucia. Amen. May he who lives here pray for them to God. I, abbot Dobrovit, built this church with nine of my brothers, in the days of prince Cosmas who ruled over the entire province. And in those days there was Nicholas in Otočac so they praised St. Lucia together.

I had the same reaction when i first time ate white sauce with truffles and pasta. At first that metallic flavour hits you almost like zinc like. But after a while you kinda like it. Personally i think with truffles the dosage is important, if you don't over dose it in a dish it adds quite a bit of a flavour.

Was the sound in the amphitheater enhanced or was that really how the sound carried as you walked further from the camera? That was a pretty amazing touch! 0. Absolutely! Definitely had some of all the things that makes a K&E video enjoyable to watch! 1. Kitties, I think that the idea that they don't let just anybody pet them makes you feel extra special when they allow the pets.
@kydeanderic6 жыл бұрын
The sound was 90% natural, but I had to boost it a little bit by mixing in a tiny bit of audio from a lav mic I was wearing. Kyde could hear me clearly, however the mic on our camera is good but picked up birds and stuff which made the lav mix necessary. Kitties are the best when you win them over. Dogs are social whores, which has it's place too....like when hunting truffles! Hahaha. -E

Doggies for sure! How much did the truffle tour cost you? I've always thought with white and black truffles, one smells seafood-ish and the other garlicky, but I am not familiar enough with them to remember which was which. Mixed into butter, they each were really tasty spread on bread, each with it's own merits. Speaking of ants, have you seen the AntsCanada channel? I never knew ants could be so interesting! Cheese in desserts is not as uncommon as you might think, like cheesecake, cannolis, blintzes, cream cheese frosting, cheese danish all use sweetened mild cheeses like cream cheese, neufachatel, or mascarpone. I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next one!

Cool video, but you have to realize you were outside the tourist season. A lot of these towns, especially on the coast and islands basically go into hibernation from october to april... and january february can get get particularly grim, with bura winds and all... (one of the reasons why it's smart to own a stone house there) Most restaurants and cafes close during this time and even the majority of younger locals leave to work and study in bigger cities, especially Zagreb. While july and august are peak touristy and most crowded, the best time to go visit these places are may, june and september - the best weather and just the right amount of people.

What a fun video. You're right, this really is a quintessential K&E video. Noms, exploring, hiking, doing neat activities you normally don't see... =D - Regarding the truffles and dogs vs. pigs, the reason pigs were the animal originally used is because that actually Is the terrain of wild pigs (woods, the bush, ect.), and not only are they smart (so you can train them to the scent of truffles), but they're really good rooters, so they are really good at digging up the truffles For you. Wonder if another reason maybe is because they might've been a lot cheaper for people back then than dogs??? Lol dunno. Dogs are better in a lot of ways though of course, hence why more popular now :) - That chasm was really pretty. NO WAY in Heck *I* would go down there though............Lol. I'm with Eric on the Croatian expectations thing. I Kinda knew that there was a Little bit of what you guys have been seeing just purely based on Game Of Thrones, but I NEVER would've thought there were So MANY cool like amazing towns and villages like that. not sure if the sea temp changes much from winter to summer? I went swimming (snorkeling) in the Adriatic near there Rovinj (in late summer) I think the water not cold and very clear (well it was until I discover the end of the sewage pipe lol) I also came across a massive fish a giant sea bass, scared the life out of me!! It looked like it could swallow a small child whole!! external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.futurity.org%2Fwp%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F10%2Fgiant_sea_bass_1600.jpg&f=1&nofb=1 I think I gave him a big of a surprise too we both retreated lol. Prior to that I was swimming amongst shoals of brightly coloured fish, which was much nicer!

I wouldn't personally be able to tell you the difference. -E

The pasta or noodles as you called them (with the truffles) are Fuzi (foozi) which are an Istria traditional pasta, usually made for special occasions. The wild asparagus with egg is basically peasant food from Istria, people would go into the forest to gather it and bring it home to cook with eggs. So I'd go with the food was Istrian, Istria does have a lot of Italian influence in its food and Austrian as well, the strudels are fabulous, especially if you buy them freshly made from a bakery early in the morning!

As they are different regions their food is different. Slavonian more stronger and Istrian lighter but they are both excellent. One thing about Slavonia is that this region is extremely rich with food. I remember when my uncle was getting married, my grandmother made 7 cakes and 54 different types of pastry - mostly traditional. Whatever you like, they have it! All food is natural. Wine is excellent. Rakija (brandy) is excellent. It is cheap. Real cheap. I remember from my childhood that I was able to smell fruit trees from quite a distance, and taste of it was magical. From one apple which was small and not pretty, whole house was smelling beautifully. Quite opposite to what you can buy in city stores. Slavonia is beautiful. Istrian food is Mediterranean food but they have excellent Istrian sausages, Istrian prsut (ham), rakija (all kind of types), olive oil etc... If you like food, from October till end of November you have days of truffles fare in village of Livade next to Motovun. There you can participate in truffles auction and try for free all the vines of Istria region, olive oils, cheese, rakija (brandy), etc. There you also have endemic oysters in that Limski kanal (fyord) where they went. I don't know if they tasted it. You have also days of Istrian prsut (ham) which is excellent and you can visit wine roads going from one stancia (house with wine cellars in the middle of vineyards) to another. You just need to pay for one glass like 10 usd or euro and you can taste vines all day. Istri is similar to Toscana in Italy.

Never quite understood the deal with truffles. The same with caviar. It's expensive so people pretend it's good. 😁

Make Pluto planet again! If Europe can be a continent for historical and cultural reasons (tbf, India probably has a better geological and geographical claim than Europe) then Pluto can be a planet!

Yea, we should downgrade Europe to a proto-continent. Hahaa. -E
