Great video...I fact checked😉...as I lived in Dawson City for 6 years in the '80s. Worked as a tour guide by day for a few years, and blackjack dealer at Gerties by night. And I worked in the bar where toe was stored back then...but still haven't done it.😂 Still live in the Yukon and love visiting Dawson a few times a year. You should put the Chilkoot hike on the list for a future trip. Skagway to Bennet, then train to Carcross. Definitely a 'real hike' but all my sons and husband have done it. You commented back that you don't drink, but did get video of someone doing it and here it was. I'm really glad among the things you did is you drove up to the Dome. The tour guides were very informative. Enjoyed hearing both. How far people traveled to stand in a line for 32-33 miles, just to be turned back, had to be upsetting. The mail has come a long ways from those days. I couldn't stomach the gnarly toe either. Oh me! Strange things happen in this world today. I paused to read the Miners Ode (if I could call it that?) I just wandered how 1 felt when they gave up their youthful years for gold to miss out on a life they could have had with a family. Sounds like people took advantage of these miners when they came into town too. Those were hard days. Enjoyed your vide, & its ending.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
It was quite the journey to get to the Klondike and even if you got there nothing was promised. I guess it is a noble cause to give up ones youth in hopes of providing for your family. And yes it does seem like many miners were taken advantage of. Thank you so much for watching!

I passed through Dawson City on a solo Illinois to Alaska motorcycle trip. I believe I had dinner at a restaurant that was in the same building as the “toe”. The owner of the place (who also road motorcycles) came over and asked if it was my bike sitting outside. He then asked if he could join me and talk to me about my trip. I enjoyed his company and conversation especially since I was traveling solo. He actually took care of my dinner check, how cool is that? Later took the ferry across the Yukon River and stayed at a Hostel on the other side. Anyhow, thanks for bringing back some memories!

Such a fab video guys. I really loved your guide at the start, the topics she covered on her tour were very up my street. It was fascinating to hear how long it would take travellers to reach Dawson City, I never would have guessed they'd be stuck in winter, or why. Crazy that they did 'the worlds most boring conga line' that many times (I loved her analogy of this ❤) The saloon was super interesting, including how the bar men would get their tips. Then best not to get me started the post. We're just so used to the internet now, but the idea of having to stick a letter to a tree 🤯 Mind blown! Can't get over how cheap those tours were either. Very excited to hear you'll be heading North - you got me on that one as it wasn't expected. After a quick look on a map, my money is going on Tuktoyatuk. I remember a very long time ago looking at a tour in Alaska where taking a flight out to Tuktoyatuk was an optional extra activity so it says to me there must be something of interest...

Going back and watching some of your previous videos... Dawson City is so interesting... and, only 3,300 miles away from me in Arizona! Some day... Gold rush days (same here in the Southwest) and booming towns were quite interesting times, and wow, what people did (and still do, I suppose) to chase a dollar. I respect that you don't drink, and won't make any excuse or reason why you should to change your mind. I enjoy a few cold brews while camping or on vacation. Also, while on vacation, I don't mind staying up late to take in the nightlife (I live close to Las Vegas and visit often). That’s one show we haven’t seen but have heard a lot about! Dawson is fun, historic place!

I enjoyed all the history, thanks! And while I drink I’d be a big no on the sourtoe cocktail! 🤐

I did the Sourtoe Cocktail when I lived in Yukon. It is very salty. And not pretty. Glad I did it.
