Seriously, you guys have the best travel vlogs on KZbin! They're both entertaining and informative. I particularly respect the fact that that you do thorough research on every location you visit. I'm sure the locals with whom you come into contact appreciate that also. Compared to the supernatural beauty if BC, the Alberta Rockies and the big cities of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, the Yukon is often overlooked and underappreciated, even by most Canadians. Thank you for providing such a comprehensive perspective on this magnificent part of our great nation. Oh, and Kona is just as cute as a button! 🐕

Thanks, Terry! The Yukon was super spectacular! We've loved every inch (cm? 😜) of Canada we've visited. We haven't visited the eastern side of the country, but we will one day. We're very excited for the large cities there and the beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador!

Your comment means a lot to us! That really makes us feel good so thank you for that! 1. The green chili pork recipe couldn't be easier...I buy a port shoulder/butt (2-3 lbs because we have the smallest InstantPot) and a large jar of green salsa. Dice up the pork into 1 inch-ish chunks and dump the salsa in and mix it around. I usually do 30-35 minutes, but look up the cooking time for your size InstantPot and how much meat you put in there. Then, at the end sometimes I like to crisp it up in a hot skillet 2. Haha I probably need to lay off "pillow-y" for a bit! 😂 but it's fun anyway! Thanks for watching, Becky!

@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Oh ya! It gets even better if you can believe it!
@davidmarshall7182 жыл бұрын
A "Teaser" ??? Meaning Alaska is "that much better" than the Yukon ??? Well, it is bigger, but not if you include the western North West Territories (NWT) of Canada to the Mackenzie River, largest in the country, which runs south to north and drains into the Arctic Ocean. The western N.W.T. is part of the same landscape and climate of Alaska and the Yukon. One of the social problems of this region, which I experienced when I travelled this region to your 49th state in 2008, was the haughtiness and even snottiness of SOME citizens of the USA, who believe Canada is a 10 percent version of the USA. Well, we have 10 percent of your population, most of it in the south because if you go NORTH of Dawson Creek, British Columbia (Mile Zero of this road at latitude 55 degrees) ANYTIME from October to May, it will be below freezing during the day, and there may be snow on the ground in some form or another, and plenty of it in mid-winter, with temperatures so cold in winter the average southern American will NOT BELIEVE IT or how ANYONE COULD SURVIVE IT, even for 5 minutes. Canada has the same quality of life and the same Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the USA on a per-capita basis, it shocks many Americans that Canada is consistently the 8th to10th richest nation in the entire World OVERALL for GDP out of 200+ nations, and along with Australia with an even smaller population and which places about 12th to 14th, Canada and Australia are consistently the only 2 nations in the top 15 of the World's GDP countries with a population BELOW 50 million people (Canada 37 million people / Australia 26 million people / USA 330 million people). And I hope you will leave your comment on this thread and my comment too, because it needs to be said right here at the top of the page, I left Alaska with something of a "bad taste in my mouth" after a 2 week trip there due to the attitudes of SOME Americans there, one of the first things the American bus driver told me when we crossed into Alaska going from Whitehorse to Fairbanks was that "Canadian jokes will NOT be allowed on the bus"............ when I said I wanted to "hear them all" he replied............... NO, you don't want to hear them all, some are really, really BAD.................

SO HAPPY you got to experience some indigenous culture while you were there. Canada is filled with different indigenous cultures, traditions, languages, bands, the list goes on. And learning it directly from an indigenous person or elder, is such an incredible experience that I wish more folks had the opportunity to do. Its imperative to promoting and preserving their culture for decades to come after years of losing so much of it through assimilation (including supporting them through compensation is such an incredible thing to do - so thank you for that :)). So happy to see that you enjoyed it and shared it on your channel, thank you!!

Loved that sign post forest. Reminds me of when Kara and Nate visited the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania and were like 'if you come, find out cross' - now people will be doing it in Canada for you guys! Such a shame that the SS Klondike was closed for renovations during your visit as I imagine it would have been awesome to get a nosey around the inside, but the Rib and Salmon restaurant seemed to make up for it, the setting looked amazing, as did the food, and the other customers cheering you on was so cool - cherry on top of the cake was when you said they were government officials! 🙌🤣 Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Long Ago Peoples Place and hearing about the way of life and history. The animal traps were amazing and listening to your de-brief after the visit, it sound like you guys got so much out of it too!

It was so funny when that large group of government officials came in haha And the Long Ago Peoples Place was so amazing. We're thankful they gave us that tour after showing up unannounced! We really did get a lot out of that experience. We're very interested in learning about that topic and to learn first hand can't be beat!

Throughout the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, it was very popular for retired Americans, the so-called "Greatest Generation" in your country (in some ways) to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Alaska from the lower 48 to the "Last Frontier" which is Alaska's nickname. In summer, there was an almost steady stream of Recreational Vehicles from the USA going through British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon with retired American couples making their trip to your 49th state. The Watson Lake sign forest is one of their legacies, most of the signs there were left from that era, although of course it started with the original highway builders in 1942, and with the recent interest in adventure travel around the World in the new millenium, including more people from Europe and Asia, many more signs have been added, some with hometowns across oceans to the far ends of the earth.

Enjoyed both the videos. We drove it up to Fort Greeley AK (outside Delta Junction) in February of 1978 - below zero most all the time. I was pushing to get there as my orders to report were imminent, so we only overnighted in Watson Lake. Winter, dark, cold but also the gravel road had enough snow and ice mix that we could drive 60-70 mph. Had a new '78 Bronco (1st year of the big ones) with the front protected with a tarp so the rocks from other vehicles wouldn't tear up the radiator but it was cold enough we didn't overheat. Lost a few headlights to stones but had spares and picked up some chips in the windshield. At the AK border pavement started. We came out four years later in the summer of '82 and it was beautiful as you have shown, so we took our time and enjoyed it. At that time, in Canada we'd hit new pavement, then road work, then slow detours where they were working on it, then the old gravel road. At the next "Census Unit" which is their county, we'd hit new pavement and start the process again. Muncho Lake was a high point, but every direction is fantastic. With all the summer daylight it is a great trip.

I’m vicariously living the dream of driving to Alaska through you both! My wife and I did fly to Anchorage in 2018, rented a car, and spent three weeks on an Alaskan road trip to Denali, Fairbanks, down to Valdez, then to Seward, Homer, Palmer to see the Alaska State Fair, and finally Girdwood. Will be interesting to see how many of the spots you visit were a part of our trip!

When the moose crossed the road in front of you, I got a little ptsd from when I did this drive back in 2017! Same scenario, except at night, but the moose that I passed was a little more aggressive and territorial. The moose ended up charging my truck head-on while I was going about 50 mph! Had to swerve quite aggressively to avoid a catastrophic collision. Nobody was hurt (including the moose) but man was that scary! Be careful, but have fun! I know you will! Thanks for the vids that help bring me back to my experience on the Alcan 😁
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Wow that would have been scary! I've read that the moose can be kind of "dumb" when it comes to crossing the road. We're thankful nothing like that happened! Thanks for watching!

Back in August of '65 our family drove from Seattle to Fairbanks on the Alcan Highway. Back then most of it was unpaved and were told to carry provisions just in case. I was 10 but remember the BREATHTAKING (my mom's word) scenery along the way. Our stop in Fairbanks was at our cousin Bob Bloom's . He was one of the first pioneers up there with his wife Jesse. Nice to have such family history!!
