Contemporary Hotel into the 1980’s had an exquisite curios shop where you could purchase $4,000 vases & such. The WDW Florist was next to it. Arrangements were made there and delivered throughout the resorts and you could walk in as most florist shops. It was a necessity back then if you were traveling during Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, birthdays and such. You could not see Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary nor could you walk nor bus to it. You could go to the roof top restaurant to get a slight glimpse of it and a great view of the fireworks. High class. All replaced with quicker easier more voluminous sales.

@@orlandoparksguy I've got more to share. I've been to or seen almost every locale in this video when it was open. My late father worked for Disney in the 90s and we're native Floridians so it's within range for us. I've been inside that dilapidated area at the 3:13 mark at Discovery Island. I have clear recollections of being there on a 3rd Grade Field Trip and one of the animals they brought out was a skunk (disarmed of course :P ). It's a real shame Disney's just left that island to rot since it closed back in the 90s. Sad to hear the table service restaurant at Port Orleans is gone. Iirc without using the internet, it was once called Scat Cat's at one point. Might be wrong. But I remember eating there a couple of times. We mostly went to the walkup restaurant, Floatworks, across from it. Dixie Landings/Riverside had the better cafeteria though imo. More charm to it. I only ate at Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer Island once when I got treated to a brownie sundae of some kind. I know it was chocolatey. It's been a long-long time.

@@orlandoparksguy To be honest, Discovery Island was just a zoo on an island. What in the heck is the Odyssey Pavilion ever used for???
@orlandoparksguy16 күн бұрын
It was shuttered for years, but lately it's being used for Epcot's festivals. You'll see it opened for Food and Wine, Flower and Garden, and Fest. of the Arts. It was a quick service eatery when Epcot opened. But people would eat there, and not eat at World Showcase, so Disney closed it.

Why would an Aristocats themed restaurant serve gumbo? Wasn’t that supposed to be set in France?

Good point! They were really capitalizing on the “French” in Port Orleans French Quarter!

Coming soon. Once I get to 10 places, I'll make it. Not quite there yet.

Just make that a vacation resort. It doesn’t necessarily have to be named of a cartoon or character.

If you have a few buildings that are not even there I mean they are there but they are banded I think Disney had they do have lots of money and they could use Discovery Island into a water park or for a theme Park #5 But however Disney World they do have Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach as two of their water parks so Discovery Island does not have to be a water park I hope they can do something with that and reopen soon because my opinion is any abandoned buildings should be replaced with something theme park#5 there would be nice if they did that

There’s abandoned theatre at Saratoga springs that never opened. Sits there never opened
@Brandis134 ай бұрын
It was used for theatre workshops and performances when it was still called the Disney Institute. They only later converted it to a DVC resort.

Disney went so DEI and WOKE they drastically veered away from Walt Disney’s ethos. I wouldn’t give them a dime of my money.

Honestly people can blame Disney all tou want but they are just trying to stay alive in an economy that is quickly getting the rich richer and poor poorer.

Disney is and has been going downhill. It has become way too expensive and not as interesting as it used to be to be.

This is only the beginning. While other places like universal, sea world and others are expanding Disneys greed is closing places down
@orlandoparksguy4 ай бұрын
Well to be fair Disney has several new expansions in the works. Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland expansion is huge. Animal Kingdom is getting a South America expansion with Indiana Jones and two new hotels are in the works: Polynesian’s DVC tower and tower at Ft Wilderness has been rebooted.

Disney is so bad it kills itself. Nobody at Disney “leadership” deserves the honor of their supposed positions. As for the cop on the island; WTF is that loser have a drawn weapon for?! Idiot makes other cops look bad.
