Contemporary Hotel into the 1980’s had an exquisite curios shop where you could purchase $4,000 vases & such. The WDW Florist was next to it. Arrangements were made there and delivered throughout the resorts and you could walk in as most florist shops. It was a necessity back then if you were traveling during Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, birthdays and such. You could not see Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary nor could you walk nor bus to it. You could go to the roof top restaurant to get a slight glimpse of it and a great view of the fireworks. High class. All replaced with quicker easier more voluminous sales.

@@orlandoparksguy No, this was a little bar literally in the lobby of the Beach Club. My family stayed at the Beach Club many time in the late 1980's and early 1990's. When the beach club first opened, Floridians were offer great rate at both the Beach club and the Yacht Club. It was a time when my son was young, so we took advantage of the offers. I would always be ready before my wife, so I would take refuge in this bar. It was called The Riptide Lobby Bar. This is a comment I found on a Disney discussion group. "There was a lobby bar called The Riptide Lobby bar, right off of the front desk, that was closed and made into part of Cape May's dining room." I know the Crew's Cup Lounge well. It's right next to the Yachtsman Steak House. I have been there many times as well, usually for lunch, or drinks before dinner at the Yachtsman Steak House.

I remember the Neverland Club at Polynesian Resort. I got put there a few times back in the 90s. They had arcade games in one side that were free play, a dinner buffet, and they always had someone come from Discovery Island every day to showcase one of the different animals at the island. @@orlandoparksguy I've got more to share. I've been to or seen almost every locale in this video when it was open. My late father worked for Disney in the 90s and we're native Floridians so it's within range for us. I've been inside that dilapidated area at the 3:13 mark at Discovery Island. I have clear recollections of being there on a 3rd Grade Field Trip and one of the animals they brought out was a skunk (disarmed of course :P ). It's a real shame Disney's just left that island to rot since it closed back in the 90s. Sad to hear the table service restaurant at Port Orleans is gone. Iirc without using the internet, it was once called Scat Cat's at one point. Might be wrong. But I remember eating there a couple of times. We mostly went to the walkup restaurant, Floatworks, across from it. Dixie Landings/Riverside had the better cafeteria though imo. More charm to it. I only ate at Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer Island once when I got treated to a brownie sundae of some kind. I know it was chocolatey. It's been a long-long time.

@@orlandoparksguy To be honest, Discovery Island was just a zoo on an island. I think they were mostly using it as a temporary housing for some of the animals they'd eventually move to Animal Kingdom, but that's just me. As for the Dixie Landings (it'll always be DL to me and my family) food court, yeah it definitely was better, especially since you could watch the water wheel outside turning. Floatworks at Port Orleans was kinda creepy especially with those big faces, the one that was supposed to be the wind, especially so.

I worked at Disney for over a decade. I didn’t know about the aristocrats restaurant! The tangora at the Polynesian was used for housekeeping meetings and the kitchen was still there. Upstairs at ohana and Kona and the tambu lounge we all shared a dishwasher and when the dishwasher would go down (frequently ) they would take out dishes all the way over there to wash them, which was really a disaster. I am going to go watch part 1 now but did you talk about Ariel’s grotto? It’s next to Martha’s Vineyard at the yach and beach club. You can see it behind the bars. You are right with your comment. The wife and I went 26 years in a row to WDW. Then decided we’ve seen enough, let’s wait til the grandkids (1,2,4yrs) get a bit older to get something out of it. 5 years went by, They became 9,8,6 but Disney has become so money hungry, raised prices and dropped so much in what you get. It’s financially not feasible I go with them. Price hikes, less value, less entertainment, it just not worth it. Not saying we couldn’t afford it, it’s just not worth the amount of cost. I try to weigh what you get for the money you pay in everything I purchase, Disney is untouchable now…

I think it was already mentioned but at least when I was there in 2022, Tangaroa Terrace was being used as office space. I went to do my laundry there and couldn’t find the room. One of the cast members working in the building was nice enough to help me, I think I accidentally walked into an area I wasn’t supposed to be in. Nothing interesting to report though, just office stuff.

Tangarora’s pretty much a designated cast events center for the resort. It’s janky that it can’t reopen to guests because a lot of fans have wanted it to come back, cast included. :( Muppets overall is safe for now. If anything happens to Muppets, Disney looses any form of rights to The Muppets as a whole due to their contract. There’s also no space physically to put a monsters inc coaster there. It’s a good skeleton, but not practical.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing! I’m surprised Disney hasn’t released more info on the Monsters coaster or even the Villains land. Maybe they are waiting until after Epic Universe opens.

It was shuttered for years, but lately it's being used for Epcot's festivals. You'll see it opened for Food and Wine, Flower and Garden, and Fest. of the Arts. It was a quick service eatery when Epcot opened. But people would eat there, and not eat at World Showcase, so Disney closed it.

If you have a few buildings that are not even there I mean they are there but they are banded I think Disney had they do have lots of money and they could use Discovery Island into a water park or for a theme Park #5 But however Disney World they do have Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach as two of their water parks so Discovery Island does not have to be a water park I hope they can do something with that and reopen soon because my opinion is any abandoned buildings should be replaced with something theme park#5 there would be nice if they did that
