I used to live at the dunsmuir hotel back in 1991-1994. I got stoned for the first time here. This video brings back so many memories. It's like taking a trip down memory lane in a time machine.

I lived there in the early to mid 70’s as a boy and it was pretty much the same. That store called POPS used to be a used record store and the tattoo place was an arcade, I remember seeing my first video game there, pong. The movie theater was operating then, I saw Jaws and West world there, my mother had a friend who, lived in the house next to the theater, they had a couple weird kids I didn’t like. I once found a 5 dollar bill on the gutter across from the movie theater one time, I was shocked. And back then food was pretty rare, my mother was pretty useless and spent her alimony and child support on useless crap and none of it got to me. Without my grandmother, I likely wouldn’t be here.

Mark Juarez owns the California Theatre and other properties in Dunsmuir and Weed. He's promised to make his commercial real estate available to merchants (nearly all are shuttered) but many say that his financial advisors have told him he's much better off keeping his stores closed and empty for the tax write-offs. He is the boss of The Happy Company, if you are interested.
