6:15 I used to play on the VoltageGaming GTA server back in 2018, and it was really fun because the roleplay was minimum and it was all about gunfights and action. Seeing the streets empty is surreal. They used to be full of activity, players driving to get places, players walking on the sidewalk, police chases, street races, car meetups and more. There was a lot of stuff you could do, both lawful and unlawful with the same concept, like running a store or a black market, towing and repairing cars or stealing and selling them to a chop shop, doing deliveries or running illegal supplies, and emergency services like firefighters and paramedics, but the main gameplay loop was raids. You either fortify a base and grow drugs in it for a profit as a criminal, or raid the bases as a cop to seize the drugs and weapons for a profit, and it was a very nice dynamic of the cops trying to get footholds and progress in the bases' defense with their long respawn times, down the criminals, seize their drugs and weapons, and arrest them, against the criminals trying to defend with their no respawns and limited supplies for as long as possible, while they can choose to go out to kill any remaining cops after a wave, being high risk with the very low TTK, but high reward as it will end the raid. It was not uncommon for raids to have 30 players take part during peak hours. You could raid as a criminal too, either the police station to break your friends out of jail, or other's bases to steal their drugs. The economy was player-driven, as most of the used items like guns, ammo, props, etc. could only be crafted by players with the right skills (or genes as known on the server). There was a real money VIP status bypassing hour requirements for police jobs and being able to grow more drugs at the same time, but you get everything you need for free as a cop, and supplies for bases like weapons, ammo, drug pots & seeds, props, etc. were cheap, so the long term interest of playing and earning money was cars. Having one of the many expensive supercars was a sign of wealth and distinction; Wealth because they cost so much more than a sport car with not a big performance improvement. Distinction because I could remember which car was owned by which player even with an average playercount of 60. I would give anything to go back to 2018 and play again with the same community of both friends and enemies I made. I am a friend of the current owner and I've been through most of the server's lifetime including drama, the community splitting in half, and attempts at revival. I can say that if nothing else, the server is now up out of nostalgia and spite to the previous owner and those who caused the server's downfall. But I do genuinely believe that if you also played the server back then, you would enjoy it. Yeah im shilling an empty server but better than shilling a mobile game

5:30 I wonder if that server is a scam in disguise: - You log into the server, it's extremely laggy, and it gives you a popup - The popup is about "improving FPS" and requires you to login with your google account My bet is that they intentionally tank performance with some somewhat interesting looking areas and lots of exploration, making you think there's more to the server and that it's worth exploring. Therefore, people are inclined to resolve the FPS issues by downloading the mod in the popup, and in doing so giving over their account details.
