OMG… 10:32 you explained a very fundamental problem I’ve been having. I’m doing just 5X macro and I’m using Helicon Focus. I have Zerene Stacker but, so far, I’ve not gotten good results from it. I might be using it wrong. My problem is things in the foreground (with Helicon Focus) have a out of focus “cloud” around them because by the time the background is in focus, the foreground object has ballooned out of focus. I don’t quite understand how your technique solves this problem.

can you explain in layman terms how to calculate steps over what distance , such as the example of the fly you shot

6:21 You've got the depth of field wrong. For example: At 10x you're looking at a DoF of 10microns (with a safe step of approx 7micron, maybe even 6).

Depends on your camera. Laowa sell adapters for Nikon F and Canon EF to Fuji X and M43. Theoretically I guess you could adapt to any aps-c mount as well, but no guarantees on that working as well.

6:22 Your conversion from millimeters to micrometers is wrong by a factor of ten. 0.0065 mm are 6.5 μm, not 65 μm.

Is anything above 5X really worth it? With a 2X macro lens you can get at most an aperture of f/2.8 and with a 5X macro lens you can get at most an aperture of f/7 Anything beyond that and you will be strongly diffraction limited.

Not with a "macro" lens. After that, use microscope objectives. I have the Aurogon and the images are phenomenal.

@@robertstorost629 According to physics you can't really get more details. If you take a 10X macro lens with an aperture of F/14 for example and you reverse it with the subject at the back of the lens and the camera at the front of the lens for example it's now a 0.1X macro with an aperture of f/1.4 You can't really make a lens with an aperture greater than f/1.4 so you can't make a lens with an aperture greater than f/1.4 on the subject side either...

according to physics you have problems with the red light at high magnifications at around 100x and more, because of the „big“ wavelength. But under that magnification a lot of things are possible, not physics is the problem, it’s the lens.
