ABOUT THIS VLOG:
➡ It's finally time for a Madeira adventure. We have seven days lined up, where we will explore as much as possible of this beautiful island. Our first stop is Funchal, the main city of Madeira, where we are staying for two nights. On our first day we explore Funchal, where we dive into the old town as well as the cable car to Monte.
We immediately fell in love with Funchal and it surprised us how charming and beautiful this city actually is. Located on a volcanic mountain the city has a unique foundation that gives it a dreamy design unlike any other city except maybe Cape Town in South Africa.
Suffice to say two days is not enough in Funchal, as this city has more than 100.000 people with lots of cultural depth and history.

One tip for the next time you come back to Madeira, expensive restaurants is not the places with the best food, try medium price restaurants. And don't forget the baskets from Monte! You'll definitely love it! No brakes just feet! 💪💪 But, EXCELLENT video!

2:00 - Tell me about it, Joen! I had to land there 4 times during my 6 months' stay in Funchal's Infantry Regiment, two of which during the night! And the runway was shorter back then (1988) than it is now, so you can imagine what I felt like everytime I landed in Santa Catarina's airport. :s PS: For a moment I thought you were going to say that Madeira's airport was famous for Cristiano Ronaldo's bust. XD Madeira is an archipelago, which contains 3 islands: Madeira, Porto Santo and Desertas. The Desertas islands are a sub-archipelago of Madeira, containing 3 small islands: Ilhéu Chão, Deserta Grande and Bugio. Did you guys know that the name of its capital, Funchal, literally comes from the word "funcho", which is the herb you know as... fennel? That name was given the first settlers, who found large fields of fennel growing in that place. : )

A friend of mine worked in a construction development for 3 years in Madeira island. Every 4 months he had to go home in Lisbon for a week because he couldn't stand the weather, that eternal springtime, he lacked the seasons we have in mainland.

The garden is worth it! You guys shouldve visited it.. yea it might be pricy (especially the cable car) but you guys shouldve really visited the garden. It has a museum inside aswell. Nice vlog! Cant wait for the other ones, hope you guys enjoyed the beautiful island!

Since you didn't release the whole videos I would say the same as others the garden is really beautiful, and it's very big, and the baskets are an experience you should get, very funny, visit the market in Funchal you can try a lot of different passion fruits too. Also the cable car is fun but getting a bus from the Monte to Funchal is a adrenaline experience by itself as the drivers are very fast and the streets very small and full of curves and near ledges

Are you still in Madeira? There's a lot of great things to see and explore yet, you should come to the North Coast, in São Vicente we have some natural caves, they are stunning. In Porto Moniz there's natural pools, really great to swim on but if you don't at least you have to see it for yourself ! The food in the North Coast it's as tasty as the one from Funchal, the difference ? The price ! In Funchal everything is more expensive. I would love to see you come to my part of the island, here there's more nature and you can also do lots of levadas.

Visited Madeira in 2015. Stayed at the Casino hotel, which is so luxurious and cost a fortune, but it was worth it. Funchal is a beautiful city. I really enjoyed walking through the old town. Shame you didn't go into the Monte Palace gardens. It was heavenly when I went. I also toured Madeira up into the mountains and over to Porto Moniz, which is spectacular.

If you went to monte you should have come down in the carrinhos de cesto. That is an adventure and one of the must do things in Madeira

As for landings, I landed there on 3rd attempt, a ☔ day in Feb of 89 and almost capped my pants. It was the old short runway, and I thought we were going to crash on the side of the mountain. You must go to Ponta do Sol. Diferent but have the better winter of Portugal . And the summer are very regular temperature between 27º celsius and 31º celsius and the night minimum 21º celsius. August and September.
