In an American Cuisine protein source is mostlyt Meat. In Indian Cuisine protein Source are Pulses, Lentils, Legumes, Dairy and Meat. These Protein source are cooked along with the meal. For (Ex) Pongal is a mix of Rice and Lentil, Most of the Indian Dishes have protein cooked with carbs. You can manage the portion by including additional Protein

India has lots of its own desi drinks for Summers. Try them. They are made to cool down your system.. and keep you hydrated in natural ways. Like Lassi, Chaas (buttermilk), Fruit juices (not packaged. No sugar added), Thandai, Sugarcane juice, jaljeera, Nimbu pani (lemonade), Bel sherbat, Aam panna (raw mango drink). These drinks protect us from heat waves too.

If you like street food, do not miss the "Tindi beedhi" ie Eat Street in VV Puram. You'll get all the south and north Indian dishes. Go on a weekend so that you can enjoy the food with a lot of other Bangaloreans

You need to try Hyderabadi biryani. Which kind of spicy but. U need to add raitha. (Yogurt). South of India veggie thaali and gujarati veggie thali and Rajasthani veggie thaali Are the best. If u want chicken or goat u can ask them non veggie thaali as well.
