Yes without a doubt, I live in Ennistymon in Co.Clare and there was a railway call the west Clare railway that brought people as far as lahinch and down as far as Miltown. So in other words you could jump on a train in Dublin and travel all the way down to lahinch beach, now Ennis is as far as you can go then have to jump on a bus which are inconsistent at best✌️

This was my mums house decorated by me last time I spoke to my stepfather I was making arrangements to visit and to get some of Mums belongings but when I rang him again the phone number had been disconected and he had changed his Mobile number we did not know that the house had gone on the Market. As for myself and my siblings we did not want any procedes of the house we or just me wanted some of mums belongings as a keep sake. We all have found memory's of their house always a warm and cosy house full of laughter and love. I know that i will always miss the house and all the things that was grown there, both my mum and my stepfather knew how to grow really good food. I hope the next people to live there have a warm and loving home and I wish you all the best for your future. Kind Regards from Peggy's family and myself Debbie x

I've lived in Derry for over 30 years, definitely home now. If I was to move it would be to the south. Slightly warmer, fractionally dryer, no extremes of temperature and less wind away from the Western coast. Beautiful pretty much everywhere. My mother lived in Orkney for 4 years plus a summer on Fair Isle. They don't get snow or ice much because of the sea. They are cooler and wetter all year. The wind is a constant and can have a severe chill factor in the winter. Northern Ireland and the Highlands & Islands have higher delivery costs and higher travel costs if you want to leave the area. The Islands do have special rates on planes and ferries for residents though. My ex has been in the Hebrides for a few years now too. He's extremely introverted and loves living in one of 6 houses a couple of miles from the nearest pub and small shop. Brought up in Cork too, so horses for courses. On balance culture, history, community, scenery are equal in rural areas of Ireland and the Islands. If you plan on being accessible to family, infrastructure like roads and connections, comfortable weather then Ireland is a better choice. Two plane journeys over a long day on limited days for my adult children to see their father - Belfast to Glasgow a wait, then Glasgow to the Islands. Average cost before this year was £250 return per adult. Living in the sticks in Ireland my daughter is in Northern Co. Roscommon, 3 hours by car on country roads from Derry. She's about 2 hours on a faster road to Dublin. Long comment, but I hope it helps.

@@michellebyrom6551 Great comment, really appreciate you taking the time to do that :) We have regularly holidayed in Shetland at varies times of the year, so weather wise, we kind of know what to expect, although i suspect you never do till you've done a full winter there! We were actually all set for Shetland, my wife has a job offer waiting over there at the moment as well. Ireland has come into the picture after some relatives on both sides of our family have had massive changes in there health recently. While we are still intent to make the lifestyle change we crave, the possibility of needing to get back to see relatives has been heavily highlighted by recent events. While we adore the wildness and raw beauty of Shetland, it can literally be like getting back from Australia in terms of travel times via the ferry and car. All food for thought and since looking at alternatives Ireland has shone out with all we are looking for in terms of lifestyle with the added bonus of quick and convenient access to travel 'home'. My wife would like to continue to work in some capacity (I think she just likes to get away from me and kids to be honest!) so trying to delve into the job availability side in rural areas at the moment. So far it looks like Shetland has the advantage there with its huge labour shortage. She has a lot of experience working in Education and Care for Special Education, particularly Autism and loves her work, however right now, to get the lifestyle we crave she says she'll do anything! Thanks again and sorry for the longer reply!

It is perhaps a bit unlikely, but would make for very interesting videos, a post-buyer video, a follw-up. Let’s see who and what type of person bought these cottages and what their plans are. If we don’t like their intentions,, we’ll kick them out … lol 😂 🇨🇦

Auctioneer listing states current owner purchased the property 20 years ago (and is now selling for 149000€). Not sure why Daniel updated video description late last year to state property is now sold. Seems like it was never truly for sale. Owner gauging market maybe? From listing photos, appears all tools and other items and appliances have been removed, place tidied up a bit. Large 6-burner gas oven now in kitchen. Ticket office now a laundry room. Old Station House placard placed next to front door. Interesting changes.

I think that someone might not like some stuff but you just have to estimate what it would cost to haul it away. You could just have a giant garage sale to clear out stuff or donate to the neighbours and set up some relationships. I really want to reorganize the storage space. Could you reset it up as a rec room/station house. I think some of the rooms converted to bedrooms would be fun. Nice that it’s on high ground. Fruit trees would be a bit of an income.

Apparently this property wasn't sold, as it has gone up for sale today, but at a much higher price - they want €149,000 now. I wonder if they had a lot of interest, so put up the price. It looks like they put in a tall fence to keep the pets -probably cats - in, but with our cats who like to roam, I wouldn't want to be near that road, we are looking for something rural but at the end of a road.
