I used to live in Jacksonville, it’s a beautiful city but it has a small town feel. When I moved there it was a culture shock, even though it’s in the northern part of Florida it is very Southern like and conservative, people are more friendly and it’s very quiet. I would never forget that it was over 70 degrees on Christmas, and they’re are snakes and lizards everywhere. Also I lived on the West side off of Normandy Blvd.

I've lived here for over 30 years. The reason downtown has nothing going on is, for most people, the only reason to go downtown is to WORK. Sometimes a symphony, sometimes a sports event, but mostly, people stay on their own side of town. Merrill Road is fine, so is Rogero, where you were. Also, driving where you were on McCormick Road is nice, the neighborhoods are mostly quiet. People are friendly, mind their own business, and take care of their home and city. An excellent bar-b-que restaurant is Sonny's, on Atlantic, near the Home Depot, really good. If you want to see some wealthy neighborhoods, go to Mandarin and also to Ortega Forest. The city is huge. Nice for families and retired, and middle income families. I wish they would have more craft shows, like up north, and more family-oriented activities. Now,I'm not sure what you mean by the term "hood". Please explain. Romans 10:8-13; John 3:16-21

I loved growing up here AND living here again. It’s a big city so you can choose to live in an area that isn’t “hood”. You can go to so many places here and never end up in parts you don’t prefer. I work on Main in Springfield, so I definitely appreciate the area we chose to live. We first moved to Lake Asbury when we moved back to Jacksonville. Now that is a hidden gem, if you want a nice place to raise your kids.

Jose, I'm curious. When you say some place is a hood or has a lot of hoods, how do you define a hood? Seems like it's a term used differently by different people.
@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS4 жыл бұрын
@@Kanuboddu ABSOLUTELY NOT. Plenty of Latino and white areas are titled as HOOD on my videos. And just to PROVE you WRONG... MARION OAKS + CAMDEN COUNTY videos are predominantly African American and I did NOT tittle those videos as HOOD instead they got the tittle RESIDENTIAL AREA. If you are gonna make comments like that about me don't even watch my videos because by now you should know the type of person I am. For MOST people in FLORIDA , too many places the word HOOD refers to black areas however that's NOT the way I use that term.
@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. This term is used differently by people. as regards this channel, It is a simplified word for Neighborhood. However, it is an INFORMAL form of that word. Example, a gated community is a very well laid out, planned community the term HOOD would not apply as its planned, orderly and thus a very FORMAL setting for a community. An urban area, where each house is individual, or of more humble roots, perhaps less FORMAL than a gated community would thus be titled RESIDENTIAL AREA on my videos. So, we use three term to define areas, WEALTHY, RESIDENTIAL and HOOD. I consider if 20% or more of the population is below the poverty line, it is more or less NOT residential but leaning towards hood. RACE has absolutely no bearing, and INCOME only superficially. For example, some parts of South Beach are wealthy, to rich.. yet ave enough of a URBAN vibe to be somewhat HOOD. Basically any collection of people within an informal setting can be a hood. CRIME is NOT related to the use of this term for my understand although sadly for too many people it is. Because not all poor or HOOD areas have high crime although too many people are too IGNORANT to recognize this. This is a great subject for a video. For most people of my age and generation its just a place that has more LIFE, activity, environment than the average. it's for an informal setting. You cant blast music at 3am in a residential setting.. but you can in a HOOD.. you can have chickens in a residential setting.. but you can in a hood.. you cant park a car on your grass in a residential area.. but you can in a hood. And true, it varies form person to person but tha'ts my understanding.

Right where your walking around downtown near the Andrew Jackson statue was the famous mall called The Landing. It was there for like 40 years and it was torn down! It's where that video game tournament shooting took place. They plan on building a mixed use property. You need to watch the video on Katt Williams and Jax hoods. You didn't explore the nice areas that are large and go forever.

Yep. I am viewing this on April 29, 2021 and ALL the BLM and city violence and hearing HOOD mentioned 10+ times I think we will stay in pretty safe Arizona. We are in Gilbert, AZ fastest growing city in the country 10 years ago, probably still in the top 10 and we are 20 miles from Scottsdale. Very safe place and with all the hate out there I think I will stay out of the hood.

You had it right...sometimes people lose their objectivity about places. Some resent the changes in the city brought to the older suburbs like Arlington as the demographics change...There has been a lot of white flight to neighboring counties and newer neighborhoods...this can create challenges as integration does not always go smoothly here. I live in San Marco, an old part of town..rapidly gentrifying. We were pioneers in urban living. People thought we were nuts to plan a life in a neighborhood like this...older, integrated, urban....Now, its the most desirable area of the city aside from the beach. Love it here.

The Landing was a failure for several reasons, one, the shops were low class, and the parking was non-existent, or so far away it was dangerous to walk from your car to the Landing. Doomed to fail.

Merril Road/ Arlington is considered the Southside of Jacksonville not the east side and the area near 295 is not considered hood but the area closer to university blvd and justina is more “ hood” than the other end, the east side is over the Matthews bridge, the east side is considered the “hood” and the Northside is considered the hood but some parts may be considered more dangerous than others!!

@running4fun744 жыл бұрын
What's that drive time? We're considering a Florida move and Spring Hill is on our list of possibilities.
@ReadySetAutismFamily4 жыл бұрын
@@running4fun74 it can range from 25 minutes to 1 hr depending on which part of Spring Hill and Tampa. Spring Hill is very large East to West and Tampa is just huge in any direction. The closest part of Spring Hill to Tampa is the southeastern part near County Line/Spring Hill Drive and the Veterans Expressway. The Veterans Expressway is a toll road that takes you into the west side of Tampa near the Tampa Airport. 34609 occupies that area so that would be a good zip code to search.
