Take everything in life with a grain of salt. Things will never be as bad as you fear and not as rosy as you hoped. Life is all in between. Well done video and still makes me proud of JAX despite not being from here. Lived in California for 22yrs. The job market can be a little frustrating if not downright depressing. So before you move here, it would be ideal to have a job lined up. If not, a gig job like Uber/Lyft can help in the meantime in between time. I have been living here going about 6yrs. The people are not the most educated but overall nice. Real estate is affordable and you can make things work out (with a little bit of effort). If you want to move to JAX (or any city for that matter), peel back behind any glossy video and go visit (at least once) and spend about a week just soaking up the city before making up your mind. Multiple visits will be super nice. Nonetheless, I'm optimistic about my prospects in JAX but its taking a bit longer than i hoped.

The St. Johns River settlement that grew up to be Jacksonville was first called Cowford because it was a place in the river narrow and shallow enough that cattle could be driven across it. The north side of the ford was near where the Duval County Courthouse is, but the river is deeper now because of dredging. After Florida became a U.S. territory in 1821, the inhabitants of Cowford wanted to found a town of 20 blocks. The town was named after Andrew Jackson, who had served as a temporary governor of the territory.

The traffic in Jacksonville is general Lowe than most cities anyways. The only reason it is #12 most populated the USA is due to the fact unlike other Florida cities JAX is a consolidate-county city meaning the entire county for the most part is just Jacksonville, so even if your in Duval county and are in the areas where it is just open farm land or private home sprawl maybe it still is Jacksonville. New Orleans is another example of this too. Jacksonville Dual County is much larger too than other Florida counties like Hillsbrough and Orange to add on top of that. If Jacksonville was the normal city limit of that of Miami or Tampa is the city population in the county would be much lower than it really makes it out to be and the low amount of traffic in general is evidence of that.

Lived in Jax in the 90's and I've been missing it now for many years. I always think about Jacksonville whenever I visit other big cities like London, Tokyo and Los Angles. Someday I will move back there to enjoy the big city life again!

I LOVE Jacksonville, my new home. Moved from Denver 3 years ago. I was in Denver for years when the downtown wasn't much to speak of, but they did some projects and completely revamped areas, now there's lots to do...the same thing can happen here. Sounds like there are exciting plans. We brought our software dev business here and also we're starting a church (New Life Tabernacle of JAX). Really love the people! Enjoying the weather so much, do not miss the cold months at all. Love going to the beach! Our dog Milo loves his new home too, he loves the beach and chasing geckos :).
@TampaAerialMedia4 жыл бұрын
yes I agree, something like the 16th St Mall in Denver would be a great idea for JAX. Denver has done it right.

Jacksonville is now the largest city in Florida with a population of more then 1,000,000 people, with Miami and St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay combined. They should deserve a MLB franchise from Miami Marlins. Miami Marlins will draw less then 10,000 fans per home game at the Marlins Parks. Because of COVID-19, I don't think they will not draw not even 1,000 fans per game, which is worst then the Montreal Expos back in 2004.

No one even attends the Jaguars games. That is why they get more attendance in England😂. The Jags will be gone soon.

Amazing, I just like Florida state because the people over there is very friendly and they are very receptive. Others place in USA the people is very cold.

Yea I've found other areas to be friendly as well like the midwest, but yea, Florida is friendlier than most places (maybe with the exception of Miami).

I’ve lived here since the mid-70s. And this city has had its growth pains and ups and downs. When I got here Dames Point bridge wasn’t there, 295 wasn’t done and there was no J Turner Butler. We could actually drive on Ponte Vedra Beach. And did a lot. I’ve moved away a couple of times and for all Jacksonville’s problems it’s still has a lot to offer. And it’s not as bad as some places.

Notice the fun facts end half way through the video. Probably because the only ones left are crime and murder rate. Advice from a native of 25 years. Stick to the beach or Southside and if u venture to the westside dip into orange park instead. Riverside is ok as well. If you move here learn how to fight or carry a gun with a bullet proof vest. These streets are tough. Also when down town just keep driving and ignore the homeless everywhere. They say Duval till we die. I'm still trying to figure out if that's a goal or a slogan.
