Love your Safari, brings back great memories of Botswana in the 1980s. Also so nice to see there are still those who appreciate keeping it simple.... real camping!

Hey, thanks for watching, Botswana in the 80s must have been stunning and really wild! Yeah there are a lot nonsense camping gear being added and attached to 4x4 s these days and most of its just for show. That said I would love a freezer one day 😂

Awesome video and great of you to leave mechanics numbers here! I am thinking of getting a 4x4 but it wont be for at least another 2 years.. in the meantime, the best I have is an BMW X3 xDrive20d (All wheel drive) - what would you rate as the 3 best places to visit in Botswana with the X3 and also what 3 top rate places are a definite "no-go" unless you have a 4x4? Appreciate all your effort! Subscribed. ;-)

Hey, thanks for watching! On our last trip to Khwai my brother came with in his Rav4 and it was perfectly capable so I would imagine that you would do it easily in your bmwx3 although only from April to probably September when it’s dry but not too sandy. Kubu island is probably another place you could get too. The rest of the parks have deep tracks and I don’t think you would have the ground clearance. I have heard of some local 4x4 hires that are reasonable in price from Maun and that’s also an option. Thanks again for watching and subscribing, hope to see you out there soon

+1 on the safari etiquette around sightings. I don't think a max car for a sighting would be possible, or fair, to be honest but people should be mindful about sharing sightings and making sure other vehicles have access as well. And even think about leaving if they've been there for a while. Another point I'd bring up is engine noise and lights. I recently had an elephant sighting at Molose pan in Khutse where I took time to make sure that the elephants were comfortable and got close to them (still at a safe distance). Another vehicle arrived at the sighting, drove straight up to where I was and kept their engine running despite agitation from the older elephants in the herd. And then another car came up to the sighting, at 3:00 pm with their spotlights on which was also agitating the elephants. Why their spotlights were on at 3:00 PM 🤷🏾‍♂ Thanks for a great video and it sounds like the trip was still a blast none the less.

Hey, thanks for watching, and your insightful comments. yes unfortunately I doubt any max 4x4 sightings could be enforced anyhow. but yes people do need to learn to be respectful around sightings. engine noise is another problem, I think many are to afraid to switch of their engines, but it ruins the experience for others. but yes it was a great trip, hope to meet you out their one day.

Good day Watching here in Botswana. I like your footage. Is it because it's winter that's why there were no cats?
@exploringbotswana

Thanks for watching, I do think the cold wind encouraged the cats to lie low, altho we did see both lions and leopards they were not very active. thanks for watching

Hi that pan is called Motswiri Pan.
@exploringbotswana
@exploringbotswana Жыл бұрын
interesting I have never heard that before, but good to know, Motswiri Pan.... do you know where it Originates from? if I am not mistaken Motswiri is the name for the leadwood tree of which there are many in that area
@kurtgmckenzie
@kurtgmckenzie Жыл бұрын
Matswiri is the operator campsite behind that pan along the river. Around 2010 the river flooded all the way to that pan. It became known as matswiri pan because of the campsite nearby. Also the big river crossing nearby was known as matswiri crossing. And yes its the tswana name for the leadwood tree. Hope it helps.
