Never been to Knysna, id retire there at 35, i love peace more than anything. I heard Kenton On Sea in EC is another hidden gem.

Yes both are great. Kenton is quieter than Knysna 😊👍

@@Lordbleu Dood, don't live there. As an ex- Knysnan, l implore you to watch Carte Blanche on Knysna before deciding. Kenton on Sea is fabulous, as is Cannon Rocks. All other coastal towns are expensive, (Forget +-R1,2 mil), and too built up and closed in. Just went on a recce from Richards Bay to Lambert's Bay. Same same everywhere. Hermanus is worth a look too. If you have a dog, they gotta be on a leash. Boring. Good luck.

love your videos! what is the meaning of the name Knysna ?
@MidlifeTravelTales17 күн бұрын
Thanks so much 🙏. The name Knysna may have come from a Khoekhoe word meaning “fern” or “fern leaves, hope that helps

How did Knysna get it's name? George Rex and his lady were admiring the view at the Heads, and he leaned over to her and said, "Naaice, na?"

Useless info. All the shipwrecks at the heads were insurance scams. When steamers replaced the big sails, and noone could sell them, they arranged skeleton crews to wait for stormy weather, then enter the heads at low tide, hit the underwater stone bar, swim ashore, then claim insurance. However, maritime law dictates that when a ship is in distress, it must drop anchor. None of them did, so none got paid out. (From an ex- Satour guide.)

A few years back, a private helicopter crashed in the forest. After years of fruitless searching, they gave up. Finally, some workers came across it, all covered in branches - which is why they never found it. The occupants were skeletons by then, still wearing their jewelry. Turned out the elephants covered it as if to make a funeral pyre for the humans.

If only you had visited it 20 years ago, then you would have seen a true gem. Now it's just becoming another in a long line of defunct, dirty, corrupt, crime ridden African towns. I can't wait to leave the place as I am tired of watching it sink into the abyss. Glad you enjoyed it though.

George Rex bragged about being such an accomplished hunter, that he would sneak up to his hundredth elephant, and pluck a tail hair. Didn't end well. He got slammed into a few trees then got squashed.😂 😂😂 (I love that story.)
