Dude, what an awesome adventure you got going there in Thailand! So appreciate your courage & not-give-a-hoot attitude to dive into an art you've never done before ("looked pretty cool online" ;) & showcase that instructor.

If you go to busy Soi Tha-ed in Phuket I can highly highly recommend close by a new Muay Thai gym that opened call 'Yak Yai' it's huge with new equipment - pro fighters as teachers, great group sessions 2 rings much better than all the super busy factory gyms down the street!

Awesome! I'll check it out. I'm in Phuket in 2 weeks. Any other smaller gyms you'd recommend?

@@fightervault Although the place is big the group classes are not busy (like say Tiger or the rest of the fitness street gyms) really good ratio of instructor to learner and they do personalised lessons throughout the day. Bang Tao Muay Thai has good reputation.

the mae sauk looks like a Thai Tonfa variation. Training with tonfas, looks a little tricky with a mae sauk since you can't spin it or use it like a stick with it's features
