They work really well. I got those from Film Tools, they are more sound blankets. Basically they don’t have that moving blanket smell. I need two more to cover that floor though.

Wow I didn't even know that place was there. I was thinking about heading to a 4wheelparts in either Bakersfield or down below - will have to check that place out! @@havekidswillexplore Thanks so much for the feedback! I think on my way down I went the route you did - what 580/589 - that was a much more difficult way to go compared to my way up. Yeah Kelso Valley was really amazing - I just love that vast expanse and how quiet it was. You're going to have to head out someplace new and post the video so I can setup my next destination!!! LOL

Awesome video man! Loved the story telling and the area. It looks a lot like the northern province in ZA. When you sleep in the tent do you hear the wildlife at night?

Thanks so much! Although this was a longer video I thought the pacing worked. You know, if my hearing wasn't crap maybe I would hear something. This isn't bear area so there aren't many larger critters out there. I've ordered some "toe warmers" so maybe *next time* I'll be able to combat the cold!

So Happy for you Duane : ) Great to get out & about ... Hubby & I went for a long car ride last weekend, stopped for lunch & enjoyed sitting outside to eat it ... not much noise nor people. What a Beautiful place [camp area] you stayed at, so Tranquil, Quiet etc ~ Gorgeous drive [footage] you showed on your way there etc ... sorry to hear your night wasn't the best but nice to have a visitor for the evening to chat with ! Some of the best trips are the ones you take without an agenda. Even if you forget something like firewood, lol. It's become a recurring theme in my videos. What did I forget this time? Great video. Yeah I agree with you. Having only a rough idea is kinda fun and honestly that is normally the way I’ve been going. With close trips it’s less risky because you can always just turn around and head home. Disperse camping helps because you can normally find a spot to park/sleep for the night - even if it isn’t the best spot. It’s funny you ask about the tent, I was trying to remember that brand when I was talking to the guy. No mine is a Kodiak Canvas Flexbow. I didn’t know about SpringBar when I found mine. The cut off is not faster. But if you can start in lake Isabela it is much, much faster

Excellent point! Had I just stayed on the other route it would have been faster - but I was wrong - the other part is NOT paved. This is one of my close/favor places to go!

@@dustyroaddestinations once you passed Sageland and you’re on the paved road it’s 20 minutes to the 178 at Lake Isabella.

@@FBCTrona yeah but I'm coming from the AV side so it would take longer. HOWEVER if I went 14 toward Ridgecrest, then 178 toward Lake Isabella and THEN take that left on Kelso Canyon that would be paved all the way up. It's been a few months since I've been up there - I think this weekend just might be a perfect time to return!

@@dustyroaddestinations I just came back from there yesterday. The days are roughly 70°. The nights are about 40°. It was beautiful. We also did some exploring higher up into the mountains and got up into the snow. Great time did not see a soul at the campground the entire time we were there. The flowers are incredible right now.

Sir what sleeping pad was that it looks comfortable as heck!. Also what spikes are those that you used with the drill?

It's the Thermarest MondoKing amzn.to/3cxc6zR - it's pricy but it is REALLY comfortable. I'm using lag bolts with washers. I have to say the lag bolts and impact drill have been a complete game changer.

Absolutely. I wouldn’t take the detour because the sand was pretty soft but I don’t think I needed 4wd throughout the trip. You thinking of heading out that way???

Outstanding! If you want to minimize the dirt roads go that Isabella route. I think it’s payment all the way to that dirt road that goes up Piute mountain. If you’re taking a car that doesn’t have much ground clearance I wasn’t paying that much attention. I’m not sure I would take my Volkswagen Jetta all the way up there.
