You had to stay in a locals house with the family. Did you try the butter tea and sampa bread? It was so cold they heated water in a kettle for you bath and your hair froze right away. Did you go to the temple built into the cliffs with the huge walls of padmi stones on the way up? The apricot kernels tasted like almonds. No bitterness at all. I hope you had a good time there. Yes the altitude is hard to used too. There is a bus that goes to Manali from there. It takes two days try it. Om shanti shanti Om!

What you said about Ladakh can also be said about Arunachal on the North Eastern end of the HImalayas, except in both places you will find non-Hindus speaking perfect Hindi because they are Indian! It's a complex border and I don't wanna talk about the India-China border conflict because that inevitably brings angry people to comment on how wrong I am and stuff like that. Geographically, the mountains you see are the Zanskar range and maybe the Karakoram, depending on how high you've climbed, the HImalayas (geographically speaking ) lie between Ladakh and Kashmir, so technically you are on an adjunct of the Tibetan plateau!!! Culturally, Vajrayana Buddhism and Indian Tantric/Shaktism practices are and have been culturally linked for over a thousand years easy! PS: Have Rhett go to the monastery to meditate and chill if you can, ask your local hosts about the prayer times and I'm sure both of you will find some inner space to get over the drawbacks you've had in the recent past as you let go of it psychically and spiritually. Our mountain ranges have given millions of Indians spiritual strength through the ages given the majesty, stolidity and beauty they signify and I'm sure that if you immerse yourself in the local spiritual way of practice for the next few days (given that it comes from years of developing in the local context as a way to assuage anyone's troubles, since that's what spirituality is actually for!) I am sure both of you will come out stronger together!!! Wishing you all the best!

I went there for 10 days last September.. We just had a day to acclimatize but luckily for me , out of our group of 4 friends, I didn't have any problem on any day.. If you are working out, doing yoga continuously before going to ladakh then it's gonna be alright. Even at khardungla, rest 3 passed out while I managed to climb the hillock above the road there.. Eat right, eat less, drink water, avoid alcohol, enjoy the journey and have some chocolates and chewing gums , they help... Diamox, when needed is the go to medicine. ✌✌ enjoy

we dont really carry cash around anymore. Its mostly online payments through UPI and its super convenient. I've barely used cash in India in the last 2 years 🌚

Really loved the video but one thing that was irritating was you constantly saying "this doesn't feel like India" . India is much more than crowdy metropolitan cities like Delhi , mumbai where there is a lot of rush and you can experience that thing in any other part of the world. Visit Kerala, Sikkim , kashmir, goa, andamans and many such places and that may change your perception about India

@@RhettandClaire Indians have several kinds of look dear.. We don't have a typical standard for looks. Most importantly, we have more than 1600 languages, including 22 official languages. Not everyone speaks Hindi and not everyone looks like typical Indian which western world think of.

@@RhettandClaire Thats why they say India is one of the most diverse countries' in the world 😀. Hope in this visit you saw new dimensions of India and you come back again to experience more such amazing places. Trust me there is a lot India has to offer than what western media shows. Peace !!✌️😃

Best tip about how to acclimate yourself in Leh.... don't go by airplane and go by road. the sceneries are out of this world and you get acclimated with the altitude on the way itself little by little. 😅😂😂

India should somehow enable UPI payment for visitors (work with foreign governments). Once you use UPI, there's no going back to cards.
