Exploring Low Barns Nature Reserve in Durham

Join me this Sunday at 17.00 as I explore another nature reserve and look out for different wildlife along the way.
Low Barns is a wildlife trust site and is free to enter with a voluntary donation for the car park. It’s a lovely site and has four or five bird hides over looking different lakes.
I’ve visited a few times now and have seen lapwings, cormorants, herons, ergrets, comon turns, gulls, various ducks, swans and geese. As well as dragonflies, bees, beetles and so much more 😁

What a beautiful Nature Reserve! So peaceful & tranquil! I really loved the Pond with the Ducks floating along, especially the cute wee duckling.That was so sweet! I also loved the beauty of the Reeds & Rushes as you strolled along the wooden walkway through the midst of them.That walk was especially peaceful & calming. Also, the rain softly falling on the water there made it look & sound all the more enchanting! I also loved all the lush green trees & foliage. As well as the delightful Meadow, with all the different Wildflowers & Daisies. So pretty! Not to mention, all the secret Pathways through the Woodland leading to the gently flowing Stream. Delightful! This truly is a most perfect Nature Reserve! So much in Nature, in any form, would surely grow & thrive there! Thank you for sharing this truly captivating place! Got to be over 10 years when we were last there and did a memorial walk for one of out walking group leaders, who had sadly passed away. Shame the rain had to fall but it did not seem to bother you or the very colourful flowers there. I will have to go back there as it was wintertime when we went and you got a couple of cracking photos at the end, cheers Alan

Ooo another wonderful video from you Yasmin. Your camera is excellent, picks up the wildlife in their natural habitat so very well. Loved the close up of the wasps on the flowers, so beautiful. Haha yep I’ve been out walking before with friends at reserves and it’s harder as talking does scare things away 😂😅 it’s a nice reserve I think. Been a few times now. It was the second trip that there seemed to be sooo many lapwings about!

Thanks Mark 😁 yeh I think it’s been nice watching birds. Think I’ve done about 8 or 9 reserves over the last couple of months. Haven’t filmed all of them but found it pretty relaxing just sitting and watching them all. I’m still on the look out for kingfishers. Seen two this year but haven’t got them on camera yet 😅

Hi Yasmin As always, there are such a beautiful hike. The hike in the inclement weather is challenging to film, but you have a gift, especially with your smile. Everything makes elegant and beautiful. The sounds of the rain are calm to unwind my mind. The photps at the end from macro lens or your phone? The photos are exceptional. Did you learn photography or videography in college? haha You have canon too? I made Santa bring EOS R6 MarkII that I cannot even set a camera hahah.So complicated. What is your advice for camera setting for me, a novice? YT video did not help..for beginners haha. I thank you for making my day. Brilliant work of art. haha I was wondering where you were, but kept talking to you in the chat hahah I could hardly wake this morning from exhaustion from yesterday's hike...OMGoodness we have rocks and boulders hahah I thought I was going to fall.hahah See you next one.

My photos are typically from my canon eos5000d and yep I had a macro lens o for my close up shots. No I never learnt photography at school but I’ve always enjoyed it. I’ve got a few books for beginner photography that I have read and find useful. To be honest when I started out I just kept to the pre set setting for example landscape or flowers etc that I get on my camera. But now I experiment a little more and use the manual mode for photos. Settings always depend on what I’m taking a photo of. For example for wildlife I often have quick shutter speeds. But if I want to create blur for effects for example on a waterfall I’d slow my shutter speed. I found having my photography book helped as it taught me when the setting are actually used for.
