One other free thing to do is check out south point park. This is the southern edge of the island/south beach. The views from the end of the pier are unforgettable. There is a concession stand in the children's playground area. They have coffee, drinks, popsicles, etc.

The botanical gardens are in Miami beach, not miami. Miami is on the mainland, Miami beach is the island to the east. I had a lot of fun exploring downtown Miami this year. I walked around bayside mall, pretty cool place ! Walked around downtown, and walked all the way out calle ocho to check out little havana. I walked all the way out to about 25th street and then back downtown! i took the 120 bus line to get between the island and downtown. It was a fun adventure.

Wondering how you got around to these places, public transport? Does the Botanical Garden have free parking - any parking tips for budget travelers?

Depends where you are staying and what you plan to do. There's decent public transportation in downtown Miami and in Miami Beach but theres no real good connection between them. You can still use public transportation between them but getting back and forth sucks(its a slow late bus line out of Downtown near Wynwood at a Metro Mover stop). Every couple years we get told about the great plans to connect the beach to the city but its all campaign promises that go nowhere because paid for transportation has a stranglehold on the candidates. Getting from Downtown to the Vizcaya is cheap and easy on public transportation as well as Downtown to Wynwood with a free Metro Mover ride and a little walking or biking(the Metro Mover is free, Metro Rail isnt but its still cheap and there's lot of Trolleys that are either cheap or free - depends where you are). I haven't been to the Miami Beach garden so I'll have to put it on my list someday. Also she left out Little Havana which is a shame(knowing Spanish in Little Havana helps but isn't necessary), its a must see here and easily traveled to with public transportation from Downtown. Edit: parking here sucks in general. If you can avoid driving I would suggest it especially in South Beach(driving here is hectic and frustrating - I live downtown and got rid of my car and my sanity appreciates it). Plan and look at Uber/Lyft and see if its cheaper than a rental. Taxis are a scam here, only use them if you have to. I cant really help you out on good hotels because I dont stay in any here but I can tell you theres some to avoid - a general rule for Downtown is the more east of I-95 the better so you kinda have to find a middle between price and east(Brickell in "south downtown" will be more expensive and more upscale). Don't forget to check out Air BnB too. West of 95 is where things get "other side of the tracks" like. However once you get out of Downtown and out west towards/near the airport hotels are nice again(and often have deals) and if you can keep close to the airport you can take a free shuttle from your hotel to the airport and the airport connects to downtown by the Metro Rail.

I'm visiting from England in September, me and my wife are looking for quirky places to go drinking if you have any recommendations? Great video by the way x

Mangos tropical cafe in south beach. Close to ocean drive and 9th. Go at night or in the evening. They have cool shows there.

@@englishedge1988 definitely “preparty” a bit. Drinks at the bars are really expensive. You can buy beer, wine, liquor all over the place at stores down there, but only until 8pm. After that, its bars only. I always set up a mini bar in my room the first night i get there!

@@georgestanko2523 thanks for the advice, think I'll definitely do that.
