THE HARROWING FINAL CHAPTER (it's a long one)
TJ and I end of Day 2 by exploring a very sketchy abandoned house at sundown. It was honestly one of the most interesting and unnerving area we explored on our adventure.
We then start Day 3 with a tasty meal and visiting the Rogers Mine near Iron River, Michigan. This mine area was one best preserved abandoned areas we came across. The plot is for sale, so if anyone wants to buy it! It's available!
To end our journey, we kicked back and relaxed on Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We jumped in the water, caught some brews, and waited for the sun to set.

It looks like you guys were camping at Bond Falls, a few miles from the Paulding light. It's kind of cool to see someone that doesn't live here explore the area I've lived in for 30 plus years. The big Brick place is the Ontonagon Poor House at the Ontonagon Poor Farm. It's a pretty remarkable sight sitting along M-38 five miles east of Ontonagon. The county's first poorhouse was built in 1855 to care for indigent lumberjacks and miners. At that time most came from Ireland. The building was built in 1900 on 205 acres. The residents who could work raised potatoes, oats, and hay. There was a dairy barn, a horse barn, and an outbuilding for TB patients. In the 1870s, Poles became a large part of the resident population. By the 1890s Finns represented the biggest ethnic group here. The facility operated until 1945 when the State of Michigan assumed responsibility for the indigent population, and the residents were moved to a state facility in Gibbs City north of the Iron River.

That’s kinda funny to me. My friend Justin and myself drove past that same mansion and turned around to go check it out. There was a spot, like a small side room next to the kitchen and there was all these old glass prescription bottles that still had labels you could read. My friend and I are both in the medical field and work in the hospital emergency room. We knew what the Chems were and basically someone who lived there (a woman) was seriously psychotic from judging what the meds were for. That place also had service quarters and narrow staircases in the rear of the house. Some very wealthy people once lived there and we later found out it was a copper mining tycoon who owned the mines in ontanogon. It’s crazy to see what was once a gorgeous mansion that had a large family and live in house staff just reduced to such a dilapidated building. That place had a weird vibe to it

Beautiful find! I know it was once a beautiful home back in the day. I am really curious about the history of the place. Such a shame it's just left to rot like that.

It definitely seems like some people have squatted there, but definitely long after the building was abandoned. Just coming it across it added to the allure.
