You've probably seen videos of tours of Munich before, but we've got a different twist for you! See this charming city through the eyes of our four kids. We took our kids by train to Munich for Halloween weekend (which isn't celebrated much amongst Germans) and visited Schloß Nymphenburg, Hirschgarten, Marienplatz, the Altstadt, the English Garden, and went to a Halloween party at the Hard Rock Cafe. We had a lot of fun, but the kids definitely had their own opinions about what we saw, LOL! Watch this video to see what KIDS think about fancy buildings and palaces and what it is they'd rather be doing!

Yes! And also Kevin and I have been teaching the kids that castles are really fun, but also that monarchies we’re terribly unjust and cruel, and how peasants lived horrible lives because the Monarchies would take most of their harvest and earnings for themselves. So their wealth was at the expense of the people.

Beautiful pictures, and so many reasons to go back to Munich. Other than than the Deutsche Museum, the Residenz has special kids tours to places you don't go to on a normal tour, and my personal favourite is the Münchner Theater für Kinder. tbf, hotels in Munich are basically cheaper than anywhere else in Bavaria, especially right now when due to Covid they are all very empty. That's because you got all the huge chains there, for all sorts of travelers, while everywhere else you got hotels that can only make money of tourism, so they need to maximize profit there. But naturally hotels for large-ish families will always be pretty expensive, comparatively.

This video reminds me much to the time, when I moved to Munich and we did explore all those nice places in Munich just like you did in the video. I would say, that Munich is a very child friendly town and there is so much you can do and explore. Every weekend we did a "hiking" tour through it and explored all playgrounds and parks and ice creams shops in the summer :-) Nymphenburger Park is a quite big and wild park, it's worth it to do a complete tour through it. And the museum "Mensch und Natur" on the right side of the entrance is worth a visit too, especially with children. We did even make a birthday party there, they have a special program for this.

Hi my dears, watching your video, is like beeing in another world for 20 minutes ! Your adventures let me forget everything around me for a short time. I like this. And I´m tellig you by my own experience: In the past (before the C-disease and when travelling around the world was possible without restrictions) in the summertime, you can meet people from all around the whole world in the Hirschgarten !!! You can see and hear and get in contact with so many different cultures. When I was a young guy, each time when I visited my friends in Munich, we spent an evening in the Hirschgarten. And we often met people, who were so open minded to us. For me, living in a really rural county in Bavaria, it was exiting and very special. When the whole C-mess is over, please try to visit this place once more. Even for you, I guess, it will be unforgettable moments.

You should have gone to the "Deutsche Museum" of technology and sciences. I think that your children, especially the older ones, would have been fascinated, though with its branches, it is so big that you would need more than a week to see everything. Many exhibitions are interactive. Go to the main part on an island in the Isar River. Don't miss the mining technology section in the basement, which shows the development of mining in Germany from the Middle Ages to the 1960s, for ores, salt and coal. You go down in a lift, which is like a mine cage and then you are in the tunnels.

Braten is a classic and traditional Meal throughout Germany. Usually served Sundays, the dish is then referred to as Sonntagsbraten. There is a great variety of that dish, with lots of regional influences. Here are some of them Schweinebraten, Rinderbraten, Rollbraten, Spießbraten, rheinischer Sauerbraten, Bierbraten, Putenbraten, eastfrisian Snirtje-Braten and so on. You look like you really had a fun time in Munich. I'm glad for all of you, making yourself at home in a foreign country in times of a pandemic must be quite a challenge. another tip for younger kids in Munich is the soap bubble museum, which is right at the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). It is a good way to bridge a long wait or to find an indoor activity during a bad weather day. Obviously, it targets smaller kids primarily, but an interactive museum like this, can easily stretch to reach active 10-11 year olds too. It is really well done. Given all the ongoing construction at the Hbf, I recommend to check to make sure it is open when you need it. Such a museum would also can be a good way to allow the older kids a trip to a section of the Deutsche Museum that may require a bit higher attention span, while the younger ones can party with soap bubbles instead. At the Deutsche Museum, some sections are interactive and child friendly, others are more academic and primarily a paradise for engineers and geeks. And I recall some sections to be a bit frightening too. I remember not liking loud noises and lightning bolts all that much when I was younger. The Deutsche Museum is so gigantic, that there are sections in it, that I have never seen, and I have been there quite a few times. But it fundamentally is a science museum, not a children's place at heart. And many sections present the history of a certain technology, rather than a world of play. There are exceptions though, so younger kids can still find something that is for them too. Just not quite so much as in a museum that specifically targets kids. Wonderful video, btw, your camera skills, story telling skills, and all the editing work are really impressive. Thanks for making all this for us to enjoy. Hope you feel better and are back to health again and that late fall with its shorter days and colder weather reaches you in good spirits.

Hey! I picked one of your videos by accident. Now Ive seen probably all of them. I felt so sorry for you experience at school, because as a teacher at a small Gymnasium, i had 2 foreign kids in my class. I m not sure about the exact terms of condition they were allowed to visit school, but but one entered Gymnasium at class 8. He was from spain and couldnt hardly spreak any german. He spend a couple of weeks with us in just science, english and math. Then thecprinciple asked us teachers for our opinion. We gave him the oportunity tovdo a Probejahr. He had to visit private german classes and came to school exspecially for science and the top lessons. He didnt had to write all the test, but we were allowed to gave him tests in english, so did i in chemistry. Even in his second year he did most tests in english. We all got through it pretty well. He passed his final exams a couple of years ago. It was a adventurous but good experience. And now i hear from you, that you and your poor son had to do all the talking in german at your FIRST VISIT. That cant be true, i m so sorry. State: there are a lot of exeptions a principle can make if she wanted to.🤗 hope your sons getting along

A lot of the gold decoration in the palace may actually be gold...not solid but "gold leaf". Real gold is beaten out to be incredibly thin sheets and then applied to the plaster or wood decorations using a soft brush. It is glued in place using the oil from the artisan's face!

The waiting was worth it! Awesome footage, excellent editing, nice interviewing skills... 😁👍 Living 10 minutes away (by feet) from a baroque palace (built by a Wittelsbacher/bavarian clerical ruler) near Cologne, I felt some similarities with Nymphenburg palace. 😉 The fact that the kids find the inside boring may has do with the more adventurous "look & feel" of a real medieval castle. 😜 Btw: nice X-mas sweater, Griffin... 😊👍 Can't wait to see more of the other places you've visited in the city. I've been to Munich several times for business reasons and I love the Viktualienmarkt and the English Garden... not the way too touristy Biergarten at the chinese tower but the excellent Seehaus Biergarten & Restaurant.

It is one of my most cherished memories of the many Munich visits I've had in the past couple of years! Great video again! You were right in my neck of the woods (in Munich). You got a great introduction to Hirschgarten with the table service, which is the premium way to experience the Biergarten at Hirschgarten. Next time you come, preferably when it’s warmer, it’s fun to experience Hirschgarten packed with people (something fun when COVID doesn’t put a damper on things). So next time try the food at the wooden booths, which is typical Biergarten food and is cheaper. Roasted chickens, Schweinshaxe, Obatzda and the huge pretzels are the highlights. One unique aspect of Biergartens is that you are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch or dinner and sit at the Biertische on Bierbänke like everyone else. That can really save you money (although might be a little complicated when visiting from out of town). The Biergarten only expects you to buy your beer and beverages from them. It‘s a nice tradition. Reading up on how Biergartens came to be is an interesting story. I hope you are all well.

Very beautiful autumn footage. I love the title "...through the eyes of a child" and your approach to it. It's so refreshing, unfortunately those experiences are often something we as adults have forgotten or unlearned. For example just having some fun, becoming dirty in a "leaves fight" compared to a "boring" visit of a castle which is in their eyes beautiful but a waste of gold. 😊 The beergarden however made me a bit sad by it's emptiness (due to the lower temperature as well as the pandemic itself). During summer and before covid those were alot more crowded. And yes, in Munich the tourist spots are usually a bit more pricey. Especially those like the "Münchner Hofbräuhaus", where you will find a lot of tourists, but rarely Munich citicens. If asked I'd recommend visiting the "Augustiner Keller" in Munich - either the restaurant or its beergarden during summer. And while your might check beforehand for performances held there to have lots of fun for everyone, sometimes you might even be surprised what could happen at a beergarden. For example the flashmob at the Augustiner Keller beergarden in summer 2015 which surprised many visitors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXS3opaGg9qMhqc

The parks are so welcoming and well connected to the whole city, what is a very good thing if you are going by bike. On the one hand, it is the most expensive city in Germany but on the other hand, there is such an incredible quality of life that one can have here. There are other green areas in Munich as well like the Olympiapark, the Westpark, the Mauersteg in the Maximiliansanlagen park between the Isar and the Auer Mühlbach, the park close to the Menterschwaige in Harlaching (but be aware of some steep paths).

Ahh! I am sorry if I sounded demanding. Your health is certainly more important, of course! Thank you for your kind reply!

While watching this: 16:05, I immediately expected that: 16:33 ;))) So I am quite sure you met a lot of staring Munich snobs and swaggerers that felt a little disturbed by your lively family! ;)

Haha if there were snobs we didn’t notice any! We were too busy having our own fun.

In my experience Castles get boring pretty fast. It is more or less always the same, hence I nowadays only visit them if there is something special about them.

Yes, visiting castles are not always fun for kids Lol Have you visited The Naturkundemusuem at Nymphenburg Castle, or the Biotopia Lab at the Botanical Garden in Munich? Maybe that's more for your kids 😊.

You have to go to Hirschgarten in summertime. The Biergarten is full of people in calm and chatty (is that right?) mood. Thats typical for munich. One of my favorite place to be, in summertime.

I imagine it’s beautiful! We also loved it in the fall. The leaves in the park were so beautiful! And we liked that it wasn’t crowded since it was our first time with the kids.
